Ativafit 44 lbs Check Discounted Price | L:16.9" W:9.0" H:6.7" | Adjustable pin | 4.4-44 lbs | 6.6 lbs | Adjustment tray |
Just like the Bowflex SelectTech 1090 adjustable dumbbell that we’ve already reviewed here, the Ativafit 44 lbs weight set includes only one dumbbell with its tray. As the title suggests, this dumbbell offers a maximum weight of 44 lbs (20 kg). Evidently, like any other adjustable dumbbell, it combines metallic alloy and plastic in its construction, but so far, it has gathered a pretty impressive amount of 5-star ratings from users, and therefore, it is one of the best at the moment.

Dumbbell construction
To begin with, the dumbbell’s handle is made of a metallic alloy, either steel or aluminum-based. Its grip is covered by a layer of silicone rubber (or urethane) to provide a secure grasp and reduce abrasion which is usually characteristic to metallic handles with knurled grips. The dumbbell’s grip is also slightly convex in order to provide a more comfortable finger alignment.
Compared with a standard fixed dumbbell, the Ativafit 44 lbs is a bit larger. And no matter what weight you select for it, its length remains basically the same. It is 16.9″ (43 cm) long, 9.0″ (23 cm) wide, and 6.7″ (17 cm) high of the ground. So, since it’s a bit bulky, a short person may not execute a standard horizontal chest press perfectly. However, there’s always the possibility of a parallel grip.
The dumbbell comes with 10 weight plates. Each plate has a metallic core encased into a heavy-duty thermoplastic shell. The exact polymer used for the shells of the plates is not specified, but as a general idea, it is probably polyethylene or polypropylene.
Overall, the dumbbell is pretty sturdy, but just like any other dumbbell with a similar design, it is not as sturdy as a standard dumbbell with cast iron plates, or fixed weight heads. In other words, it is not meant for dumbbell push-ups even though it is sturdy enough to withstand such exercises. Also, any drop can damage the weight plates and they may not be able to lock onto the handle afterward, so the dumbbell should be used with extra care. But on the other hand, this type of construction allows a quick swap between weights, you don’t have to go through the hassle of loading and unloading plates on the handle, and one dumbbell offers 7 different weights.
Adjustment system
The Ativafit 44 lbs dumbbell features an adjustment system similar to the Bayou BF-0250 dumbbells. One dumbbell head is equipped with a selector pin which you can move left or right in order to choose the desired weight. There is a metallic rod that goes through the handle and selects the same amount of plates on the other head of the dumbbell.
The “empty” handle, without any plates attached, weighs 4.4 lbs (2 kg). The 10 included plates weigh 3.3 lbs (1.5 kg) each. Therefore, since the selector grabs the same amount of plates on each side, the adjustment increments are 6.6 lbs (3 kg).
The dumbbell offers a weight adjustment range between 4.4 lbs (2 kg), and 44 lbs (20 kg). The pre-determined weights that the dumbbell can have are 4.4 lbs (2 kg), 11.0 lbs (5 kg), 17.6 lbs (8 kg), 24.2 lbs (11 kg), 30.8 lbs (14 kg), 37.4 lbs (17 kg), and 44 lbs (20 kg). It is important to mention that the weight is specified on the dumbbell in kilograms, not in pounds. So, the adjustment settings visible are 2, 5, 8, 11, 14, 17, and 20.
One last aspect that we must mention here is that you cannot create an off-set weight with this dumbbell. The selector pin will always grab a similar number of plates on each side.
Accessories
The Ativafit 44 lbs adjustable dumbbell doesn’t include too many accessories. The only included accessory is the adjustment and storage tray. This tray is made from the same durable thermoplastic material as the shells of the weight plates.
The tray is actually pretty necessary for the quick weight adjustment. That’s because it keeps the weight plates well-aligned and tight so that the selector pin grabs the correct amount every time.
