The JOROTO XM16 indoor cycle is not too different from the XM15 model that we’ve already covered here. However, it does offer an extra feature, the four-way adjustable handlebar. It’s an exercise bike made for home use but does offer a fairly decent construction for spin workouts.

Frame construction

The JOROTO XM16 exercise bike features a triangular frame made of steel tubing. It combines rectangular and cylindrical steel tubes in its construction and offers a weight capacity of 280 lbs (127 kg) which is pretty decent for a home use bike. All the steel tubes in the bike’s construction have a durable, corrosion-resistant paint coating, black in color. The only exception is the flywheel which has a chrome-plating finish.

Of course, the bike also integrates several plastic parts. The most notable ones are the cover of the drivetrain and the protective side panels of the flywheel. These are made of durable thermoplastic material, also black in color to fit the rest of the bike.

Although it’s an indoor cycling bike made for home use, the JOROTO XM16 is fairly heavy. Its net weight is approx. 79.3 lbs (36 kg). Therefore, the transport of the packaged unit may require two people. However, once the bike is assembled, it can easily be moved by only one person. Its front stabilizer features a set of transport wheels that facilitate the bike’s relocation if necessary.

The bike doesn’t take too much space. With all the parts assembled, it is approx. 41.7″ (106 cm) long, and 20″ (51 cm) wide. However, just as for any spin bike, it is recommended to leave at least two feet of clearance around it, for ease of access.

Seat and handlebars

The JOROTO XM16 indoor cycling trainer includes a saddle designed for superior comfort. It is built on a heavy-duty nylon shell with a thick layer of foam padding. Its top cover is made of a vinyl and urethane combo, durable and pretty easy to maintain. It is also contoured, with a groove in the center for improved breathability.

The saddle is equipped with a standard, collar-type attachment system. This means you can easily remove it, you can adjust its angle if you want, and there are many compatible options available in case you will ever want to replace it. It also has two springs at the rear which add a bit of flex so that the seat will adapt better to your movement during seated workouts.

The bike’s seat is four-way adjustable (up, down, front, back). Its upright post has 10 adjustment holes and offers an adjustment span of approx. 9″ (23 cm). The horizontal slider offers 6 adjustment positions as well. Therefore, the applicable inseam range for this JOROTO exercise bike is 29.5″ – 39″ (75 – 99 cm). Differently put, the bike should be able to accommodate users between 5’1″ and 6’5″ (155 – 196 cm).

As we’ve mentioned above, the bike’s handlebar is also four-way adjustable. Its upright post has several adjustment holes while its horizontal slider adds a few extra inches of front-to-back adjustment. The design of the handlebar is pretty standard. It offers three main grip possibilities (standard, climb, and racing). Its long sidebars feature high-density foam sleeves for an improved grip. However, it does not have pulse sensors and the bike’s fitness monitor does not have a pulse reading function.

Resistance and drive

The JOROTO XM16 indoor cycling bike is equipped with a manual magnetic resistance system. The main advantage of this type of resistance system is that the brake does not touch the flywheel, so the bike delivers a frictionless, smooth, and quiet ride. Also, since the bike’s resistance system requires manual adjustment, you don’t need a power cord or adapter for it. But on the other hand, the bike cannot adjust the resistance automatically.

The resistance system consists of a magnetic brake attached to the main tube of the frame above the flywheel. This magnetic brake is connected to the tension knob on top of the frame. By turning the knob clockwise, the brake moves closer to the flywheel which increases the pedaling load.

The bike’s resistance system is stepless. The tension knob does not have any pre-determined levels. However, when adjusted to the closest point to the flywheel, it generates a fairly decent pedaling difficulty simulating a hill climb.

The bike is equipped with a heavy-duty, 3-piece crankset, featuring long, oval arms similar to road bikes. The pedals are also pretty solid, made of aluminum allow with toe cages and adjustable straps. They do not have SPD elements for spin shoes, but their threads are 9/16 similar to most other pedals, so in case you will ever want to replace them, compatible options are widely available.

The bike has a pretty narrow Q-Factor (spacing between the pedals) of 175 mm (6.8 inches). This means that your feet are positioned naturally on the pedals without leading to any extra lateral stress on the knees and ankles.

The flywheel included with the JOROTO XM16 weighs 30 lbs (13.6 kg). It is perimeter-weighted for improved inertia which is great for spinning. It is also bi-directional. In other words, you can pedal in reverse if you want, but coasting is not possible on this bike. Also, when pedaling in reverse, you will get the same pedal resistance as when pedaling forward, depending on the brake position.

Last but not least, this JOROTO exercise bike is equipped with a belt drive system. It uses a durable poly-v belt resistant to stretching and abrasion. Evidently, since it’s a belt, not a chain, you don’t have to go through the hassle of lubricating every few months. It does not require any lubrication.

Performance monitor

The JOROTO XM16 includes a basic performance monitor. In other words, it does not have pre-set workout programs, Bluetooth, or online connectivity. It features an LCD display that indicates time, speed, RPM, distance, and calories burned. Speed and distance are shown in MPH and miles; there is no option for setting them to metric units. Also, as we’ve mentioned above, the monitor unit does not have a pulse reading function.

The performance monitor unit features only one button. By pressing the button repeatedly, you can select the workout metric that you want to view on the display. This way, you can also select the Scan Mode which rotates all the metrics showing each one for approx. 6 seconds. The button also covers the unit’s reset function. You can press and hold it for a few seconds to clear all the metrics to zero.

The monitor unit is battery-powered and the batteries are included. It starts up when you press the button or when you begin pedaling. It automatically turns off after a few minutes of inactivity on the bike. It also has an integrated tablet holder but does not have any connection ports for it.

Assembly and Maintenance

The main body of the bike comes pre-assembled. You only need to attach the two base stabilizers, the seat post, the seat, the handlebar post, the fitness monitor, the handlebar, and the pedals. This shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes of your time. All the tools necessary for the assembly are included and the manual provides clear assembly instructions.

Once the bike is assembled, maintenance doesn’t require much. You only have to wipe the sweat that might fall onto the frame at the end of the workout, keep the bike clean, and periodically check for loose bolts or parts. The drivetrain does not require lubrication.
