Frame
The frame design of this ActionLine indoor cycling bike is quite similar to the Sunny Health & Fitness SF-B1110 model. It’s a full-steel frame featuring a corrosion resistant powder coating, black in color, this being the only color available for this bike, at least for now. The seat post and slider are chrome coated, though. The bike’s frame integrates very few plastic parts such as the belt guard or the adjustment knobs, elements which do not play any role in its overall sturdiness.
The ActionLine A84016 Pro indoor cycling bike is not a large item of fitness equipment. With the frame fully assembled it takes only 45″L x 20″W (114 x 51 cm) of floor space. This being said, it’s an excellent choice for a cardio training machine, if storage and usage space are a problem. The frame does not fold as for the ProGear 225 exercise bike, but its front base tube has a set of transport wheels, which facilitate its relocation once it is assembled. Also, it is recommended to leave at least two feet of clearance all around the bike for safe operation.
Although this exercise bike isn’t extremely heavy, it does weigh approx. 100 lbs. Which means that its transport may require two people. But on the other hand, all this weight plays quite an important role in its stability. Plus, the base bars have adjustable stabilizers with rubber pads. Thus, you can be sure that the bike won’t rock or wobble even if you engage in a more demanding workout.
Seat and handlebars
As we’ve mentioned above, the ActionLine A84016 Pro indoor cycling bike comes with two seats. One of them is the typical slim seat similar to other spin bikes. The other one is slightly wider and features more cushioning, made to offer more comfort when pedaling while seated. Both seats have a longitudinal groove to promote a better circulation and ventilation during exercising.
The post of the seat allows both horizontal and vertical adjustment for the seat. This being said, the bike can accommodate users between 5’0″ and 6’5″ (153 – 195 cm), with a maximum weight of 275 lbs (125 kg).
This ActionLine exercise bike is equipped with a racing-style dipping handlebar, featuring a multi-grip design. It’s covered by a sheet of rubber foam material, in order to provide optimal comfort and a secure grip. Also, as opposed to many other spin bikes such as the Spinner R1 or the Spinner S7, the handlebar of this particular model integrates metallic pulse sensors, while the fitness meter can track your pulse.
The handlebar is adjustable only vertically, though. It cannot move back and forth such as for the Fitness Reality X-Class 710, for example. Both the seat and the handlebar have large knobs which are easy to grip and turn, promoting a very quick and effortless adjustment.
Drive and resistance
The ActionLine A84016 Pro exercise bike features a belt drive system, using a heavy-duty belt designed to function perfectly, without stretching, for many years of use. This belt drive comes with two main advantages. The first one is that you won’t have to lubricate it periodically. The second one is the fact that the bike’s operation is almost silent.
Another one of the main elements of the bike’s drive system is the flywheel. This bike is equipped with a heavy, 40 lbs (18.1 kg) steel flywheel, designed to deliver a consistent momentum for a maximum burn. The flywheel is balanced, promoting a steady, smooth motion. It’s also bi-directional; in other words, you can also pedal backwards on this bike.
The crankset is a 3-piece part, featuring heavy-duty steel crank arms which can support riders up to 275 lbs in full standing up pedaling routines. The pedals are also highly durable, made of metallic alloy. They don’t have SPD elements for spin shoes but do have toe cages for maximum foot stability. They also have standard threads so you should be able to easily find replacements for them if it’s the case.
Just as many other spin bikes in this price and feature range, this ActionLine bike features a friction resistance system. This resistance system consists of a felt pad connected to the resistance knob on top of the main frame tube. When you turn the knob clockwise, the pad applies more friction to the flywheel resulting in more resistance on the pedals.
The bike doesn’t have determined resistance levels, such as magnetic bikes. Therefore, you can basically tighten the pad close to the point you can no longer pedal. This being said, the bike allows high-intensity workouts, for muscle strength and stamina development.
Exercise meter
ActionLine A84016 Pro exercise bike comes with a fitness meter which offers a bit more than a basic model. That’s because it can also track your pulse if you hold on to the sensors built-in the handlebars. Along with the pulse, it can also track speed, time, distance, total distance, and calories burned.
The unit is very easy to operate. It has only one button which allows you to toggle its SCAN function on and off. When SCAN is on, the unit will rotate all the values showing each one for several seconds. By pressing the button you can select one of the values to remain on screen at all time. Also, the button has a reset function. By pressing and holding it for several seconds you can clear all the values to zero.
The meter unit is powered on when you press the button or when it detects flywheel movement. It has a sleep mode to which will enter after several seconds of inactivity on the bike to save battery.
Assembly and Maintenance
This indoor cycling trainer is very easy to assemble. The main frame, the flywheel, drive belt, crank, and resistance parts are already assembled. So, for the assembly part you only have to attach the base bars, the seat post, the handlebar post, one of the seats, the handlebars, the pedals and the console. This shouldn’t take more than an hour. All the tools required for the assembly are supplied, while the manual offers pretty clear step-by-step instructions.
For maintenance, the resistance pad may require lubrication. For this, a silicone-based lubricant is recommended. Also, in case the pad wears out, it should be replaced. However, the brake pad should last for at least a couple of years, even if the bike is used frequently. Other than this, you should periodically check for loose bolts and parts.
