There are quite a few indoor cycling bikes under the name of Sunny Health & Fitness, each one of them having its own specifics. Evidently, prices vary from a model to another depending on what each can offer, but even the most expensive ones are far cheaper than a genuine spin bike, such as the Spinner S1 or Star Trac Spinner Blade. In fact, the SF-B1110 Sunny model is quite similar to these spin bikes, being able to withstand just about as many spin workouts.

Frame construction

Needless to say, this Sunny exercise bike features a frame made of steel, with pretty thick and solid tubing. It’s actually a rather heavy bike, with an assembled weight of 118 lbs (53.5 kg). All this weight adds quite a lot of stability to the bike, which means it can withstand with no problem just about any spin workout, without wobbling or sunny health and fitness sf-b1110 biketipping over. One more element comes to reinforce its stability, and that is its base rubberized stabilizers, which are also adjustable, great to have in case you will be placing the bike on uneven flooring.

Since it’s an indoor cycling bike, the frame is not foldable. However, the front base of the bike features a set of silicone wheels, which facilitate its transport, in case you need to move it out of the way when you’re not exercising.

This Sunny bike is available in two versions: silver / red, and black / white. For both versions, the frame and bases are double coated with anti-corrosive paint, while the seat and handlebar posts feature a chrome finish. You can see the white version in the last photo attached to this post.

This exercise bike model is not extremely large. Considering that it’s approx. 47″ (118 cm) long, and 20.5 (52 cm) wide, it can fit even within a small room. Also, the highest point of the bike is given by its handlebar, its height being 47.5″ (120.6 cm).

Seat and handlebars

This Sunny bike features a 4-way adjustable seat, meaning that you can adjust it up / down, and fore-to-aft. Its vertical post features 6 adjustment positions, with approx 1.5″ (4 cm) in between them. Differently put, this bike can accommodate with no problem, users starting with 5’2″ (157 cm), and up to 6’6 (198 cm).sunny sf-b1110 - seat

One important aspect that requires mentioning here, regards the bike’s weight capacity. This particular model, is rated for users up to 265 lbs (120 kg). Now, the frame and the bike’s crank set are extremely solid, and can probably support more weight. The only element in the way though, is the fore-to-aft adjustment bar of the seat. This bar is rather thin, and may bend with users heavier than 265 lbs.

In terms of comfort, the seat of this Sunny bike is slightly more comfortable than in other spin bikes. It features the same slim, contoured design, but its rear part is well-padded, supplying optimal comfort.

The connection system of the seat to its post is standard. Therefore, in case you would want a wider seat, with more cushioning, you should easily find a replacement. Also, the seat’s comfort can be increased via a sheepskin cover or gel cover.

Unlike the SF-B1423 model, this bike’s handlebar offers 4-way adjustment possibilities, just as the seat. It integrates unified aerobars, which considerably increase the workout postures that you can take for your workout. It’s also fully covered by rubber foam material, to supply a comfortable grip.

Both seat and handlebar feature small levers for fore-to-aft adjustment, and large knobs for vertical adjustment. This being said, adapting the bike to your own height is extremely easy and takes very little time, which is great if the bike is used by multiple members of the family.

Drive and resistance

This Sunny Health and Fitness bike features a classic chain drive system. It uses a toe cage pedals - sunny sf-b1110standard bicycle chain, which connects the crankset to the flywheel. This means you can pedal in reverse, but also means that you can’t coast or “freewheel” on it, as the pedals will continue to spin for the duration the flywheel is spinning.

The Sunny SF-B1110 features one of the heaviest flywheels that you can find in an indoor cycle. It’s a perimeter weighted flywheel, weighing 44 lbs (20 kg), which means that it offers quite a consistent momentum, smooth and stable pedaling, providing quite a bit of challenge even if you don’t apply any resistance on it.

The crankset of the bike is extremely solid. It can support users up to 265 lbs in stand-up workout routines with no problem. The crank arms are made of solid steel, and also finished with metallic alloy pedals, which evidently are considerably more durable than nylon pedals. The pedals don’t feature clips for spin shoes. However, they do have adjustable toe cages. Also, in case you’re wondering, the pedals feature standard 9/16″ threads, thus you can easily find replacements for them, if you want a different model.wool felt pad resistance - sf-b1110

This exercise bike features a simple, friction resistance system. It consists of a wool-felt brake pad, attached to the main tube of the frame, and to a tension knob on top of the said tube. The pad comes in contact with the flywheel in a top-down manner. In order to adjust resistance, you simply tighten the knob.

The resistance pad is a wear part, and will wear out after one or several years of use, depending how often you exercise on this bike. But since it’s a standard brake pad, it’s easy find a replacement for it as well.

The resistance system does not feature any levels, such as bike models with magnetic resistance. You simply tighten the knob until you find the right amount of resistance. Also, the resistance knob doubles as an emergency brake. As we’ve mentioned above, the pedals will continue to spin while the flywheel is spinning, so to prevent any accidents, you can simply press the resistance knob down, in order to stop the flywheel.

Accessories

The only accessory to be mentioned when it comes to this Sunny bike model, is the bottle holder. This accessory attaches to the fork of the bike, so you can have your bottle within close reach.

There are no electronics supplied with the Sunny SF-B1110. However, there are many types of fitness meters that you can attach to it, if you want to track your workout statistics.

Assembly and Maintenance

First of all, the bike is rather heavy. Since it weighs 118 lbs (53 kg), you might need another person to move the box to the room where it will be assembled. Its assembly is far from being difficult though. All you need to do is attach the bases, pedals, seat and handlebars to the frame. The more problematic parts, such as crankset, chain, flywheel and brake pad come already attached. All the tools required for assembly are supplied. Also, the box contains a copy of the user’s manual, which offers step-by-step assembly guidelines. Thus, the whole assembly shouldn’t take more than 20-30 min.

When it comes to maintenance, there are two main aspects to consider. One, the chain will require lubrication after a while. This is easily done by removing the chain guard,  applying a few drops of bicycle chain oil onto the chain, and dispersing it to the whole chain with a piece of cloth. And two, if the resistance pad emits a squeaky noise or a burnt smell when in contact with the spinning flywheel, it also requires lubrication. This can be done by applying a little bit of silicone lubricant onto the flywheel, or removing the resistance pad and imbibing it with this type of lubricant.

Bottom Line

Although the Sunny Health & Fitness SF-B1110 is not exactly a commercial grade bike, it offers a construction pretty close to those standards. So far, it benefits mostly from 5-star reviews from user all over the world. It’s a bike perfect for intense cardio training, stamina building, strength training, and of course, for losing weight. You can actually burn 5-600 calories per workout session on this bike, depending on the nature of your workout. And finally, considering that it’s almost as well constructed as a genuine spin bike, but costs less than half the price, this bike does offer an excellent price / quality ratio.
