Frame and deck
This Sunny Health & Fitness treadmill features a frame made of steel tubing. However, the machine also integrates several ABS parts. For example, the side rail covers, the motor cover, and the dashboard that sustains the console are made of durable ABS material. All the steel frame bars are coated with a corrosion-resistant paint finish. The color used is gray, with the Sunny logo painted red.
Similar to other walking treadmills, the Sunny Health & Fitness SF-T7860 is not an extremely large machine. With the frame fully set up, it is approx. 59″ (150 cm) long, and 27.5″ (70 cm) wide. However, it is recommended to leave at least three feet of clearance at the back of the deck and at least two feet of clearance on each side.
The machine’s deck can be folded up. In folded position, its length is reduced to 30″ (76 cm), while its height reaches 52″ (132 cm). This not only provides better storage possibilities, but it also allows you to easily vacuum under the deck.
The folding mechanism involves a “soft-drop” hydraulic cylinder. This being said, when unfolding the deck, it lowers slowly by itself so you don’t have to hold it.
Since it’s a machine designed for home use, the Sunny SF-T7860 treadmill doesn’t have the weight capacity of a commercial unit such as the NordicTrack 2950, for example. However, it can still support users up to 220 lbs (100 kg).
The unit’s deck provides a walking platform of approx. 47.2″ (120 cm) x 17.7″ (45 cm). It is long and wide enough to allow light jogging as well. It integrates several cushioning elements. Two of them are visible (the red elements placed on each side of the deck), the other four are concealed, placed two at the front and two at the rear of the deck. This being said, the walking platform reduces some of the impact on your joints and back generated during your workout.
The fully assembled machine is not extremely heavy. However, it still weighs approx. 101 lbs (46 kg). Therefore, it is recommended to be carried and assembled by two people. But on the other hand, its front base is equipped with two transport wheels which facilitate the unit’s relocation. So, once it is assembled, the treadmill is fairly easy to move. Also, its front metallic base features two adjustable, rubberized stabilizers.
Incline and step-up height
The Sunny SF-T7860 is equipped with a manual incline system similar to the one on the Sunny SF-T7603 or the XTERRA Fitness TR150. It consists of two folding “feet” placed at the rear of the deck. Each foot has three adjustment positions; thus, you can lock it in the desired position via a pop-pin.
Needless to say, since the machine’s incline system is manual, you cannot control it from the console. In order to adjust the two feet, you will have to step off the machine. Also, the maximum incline provided by the two rear feet isn’t extreme. If you lock them in a completely folded position, you will benefit by a few degrees of incline. But even so, you can still add a bit more difficulty to your workouts.
The deck step-up height is approx. 8″ (20 cm). This being said, it’s recommended to place and use the machine in a room with a ceiling height that is at least 15″ (38 cm) higher than your own height.
Drive motor and speed range
The Sunny Health & Fitness SF-7860 is an electric treadmill. This being said, it integrates a motor and requires an external 110V power source. It features a U.S. standard plug with a grounding pin. Also, the unit’s speed is controlled from the console or from the controls built-in the two side grips. Also, in case you will be using one of the preset programs on the console, it will auto-adjust the walking speed.
Since it’s a treadmill designed for walking, the Sunny SF-T7860 treadmill has a light-capacity motor. It offers a 1.25 peak power and a speed range between 0.5 MPH and 7.5 MPH. The speed can be adjusted in increments of 0.1 MPH which is great because you can easily adapt your pace from a setting to another. The console also features quick selection controls for the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 speed settings.
There are two more aspects to mention here. One regards the level of noise generated and power consumption. The unit’s motor is far from being noisy, and during a walking workout, your cadence can barely be heard. Plus, the two shock absorption elements on each side of the unit reduce vibration.
The second and last aspect regards its power consumption. As we’ve mentioned above, the motor is not exactly a very powerful one, so you won’t have to worry about high electricity bills even if you use this treadmill daily.
Console
The machine’s console features a 5-inch LCD display with integrated LED backlight for better readability. The display is divided into several sub-sections so it can show multiple workout metrics simultaneously. It tracks time, distance, calories, speed, and pulse. Speed and distance are shown in imperial units (MPH and miles); there is no option for metric units. Also, for pulse reading, you will have to use the sensors built-in the machine’s handgrips. The console is not telemetric and cannot read your pulse through a wireless transmitter.
The console does not have any online capabilities, nor it is compatible with any online fitness apps. However, it has its own internal program database. It makes available 15 preset programs (P1-P15), each one offering a different interval set up. During any of the preset programs, the machine auto-adjust the speed depending on the current segment of the program. There is also a Manual Mode which allows you to adjust the speed as you like throughout your training session.
Among other console features, we can mention the Body Fat Test, the goal setting options, and the USB port. The Body Fat Test allows you to calculate your body mass index based on your age, gender, height, and weight input. Therefore, you can track your progress from a workout to another. The goal setting function allows you to select countdown targets for time, distance, and calories. If a target is selected, the console will display the remaining value until you reach your target. The USB port is exclusively for charging your tablet or phone; you cannot save your workout data on it, or transfer it online.
Last but not least, the dashboard of the console features two large accessory trays which can also serve as bottle holders. There is also a tablet holder which consists of a small shelf placed under the console display.
Assembly and Maintenance
The Sunny SF-T7860 treadmill comes almost completely assembled. All you need to do is unfold it and secure its bars in usable position via several screws. This shouldn’t take more than 10 minutes. The manual provides clear step-by-step instructions for the task, and a basic toolkit is included.
For maintenance, it is recommended to periodically lubricate the belt. The box includes a bottle of lubricant. It is also recommended to keep the walking belt clean to prevent any textile fibers, dirt or other objects to be dragged into the motor.
