Frame construction

The Stamina EasyRow 35-1315 rowing machine features a design that reminds more of a recumbent bike than a rower. It’s a two-piece frame made of rectangular steel tubing. The rear frame section supports the seat with its rail; the front frame section holds the resistance system the pulling handle, and the footrests. The base bars of the two pieces connect in the middle via four screws.

All the steel tubes in the frame are coated with a corrosion-resistant and abrasion-resistant paint finish. The color used is gray, this being the only color available for this rower, at least for the moment.

The fully assembled machine is fairly large. It is approx. 70″ (178 cm) long, and 23.25″ (59 cm) wide. It is also recommended to allow at least two feet of clearance at the rear and on each side of the rower for easy access.

The exact length of the rail is not specified. However, it is long enough to accommodate users between 5’2″ and 6’0″ (157 – 183 cm). Shorter persons should still be able to use this rower, but the handle would be pretty high for them and they will have to execute an ampler motion with arms extended at maximum. Conversely, taller users may not benefit from a complete range of motion.

The rower is not too heavy. Its net weight is only 64 lbs (29 kg). Therefore, it can be carried and assembled by only one person. Also, once it is assembled, it’s even easier to move as its front base integrates a set of small wheels.

Seat and other parts

The Stamina 35-1315 rower is equipped with a seat similar to the YOSUDA H-185, or the Sunny SF-RW520050. Its top consists of a high-density foam cushion with a textured and contoured surface to prevent the user from sliding forward from it during rowing. It is also pretty wide, approx. 14″ (35.5 cm) so it provides plenty of contact surface.

The unit’s rail is slightly slanted forward. This means that the rower provides a slightly better workout for the legs than other models with a horizontal rail. At its highest point, the seat is at approx. 17″ (43 cm) above the floor. Also, the rower’s frame has a step-through design for easy entry and exit.

The base of the seat is made of steel. It integrates three sets of wheels. Two of them roll on top of the rail, while the third rolls under it, closing the seat on the rail for improved stability. The wheels have internal ball bearings and a rubber layer on the outside for a smooth and quiet motion. Also, the seat features a small backrest with a steel backbone and two foam rollers for extra lumbar support. Most other rowers don’t have this feature so it may be quite a plus for some users.

The Stamina EasyRow machine does not have a conventional pulling handle attached to a chain or strap like other rowers. It has a pulling arm made of steel that attaches directly to the unit’s resistance system. The rowing arm features two long grips with foam sleeves for improved contact.

The machine is equipped with a set of footrests made from durable thermoplastic material. They have a textured surface, heel guards, and adjustable straps so you can perfectly secure your feet on them. They also have a pivoting design in order to adapt better to your posture during each stroke. They have heel stoppers, though, so they cannot tilt backward past an angle of approx. 65°.

Resistance system

The Stamina EasyRow 35-1315 rowing machine is equipped with a hydraulic resistance system with manual adjustment. Also, the included fitness monitor is battery-powered, so this being said, you don’t need a power cord or an adapter for this rower. But on the other hand, it does not adjust the resistance automatically.

The machine’s resistance system consists of a hydraulic cylinder visible at the front base of the unit. The pulling arm assembly is attached to the head of its piston. Therefore, whenever you pull the handle, it generates a certain amount of resistance.

The cylinder features a tension adjustment knob at the top. It makes available 12 levels of resistance. On the lowest setting, it provides a fairly decent amount of resistance, while on its highest setting it delivers considerably more resistance, great for anyone who wants a challenge.

There are two other important aspects to mention here with regards to the machine’s resistance system. First of all, the hydraulic cylinder will heat up as you use it. This is not a reason for concern or anything, but once it heats up, it loses a bit from its overall tension. And second of all, the rower does not provide a dynamic response as an air rower or water rower. In other words, the resistance does not increase if you pull the handle faster. It remains pretty much constant, depending on the selected tension level.

Fitness monitor

The Stamina 35-1315 rowing machine is equipped with a fitness monitor that offers a few extra features over a basic model. To begin with, it has an LCD display that tracks time, count (strokes per workout), total count (total strokes since the first stroke), RPM (strokes per minute), and calories burned. It does not show distance and does not have a pulse reading function.

The monitor unit does not have pre-set programs or Bluetooth, and you cannot sync it with any fitness apps. It does offer the possibility to set workout goals for time, count, and calories. Once a goal is selected, it will count down from the selected value until it reaches zero. This feature can be pretty useful as it can help you keep track of your progress from a workout session to another.

The monitor features three buttons – Mode, Set, and Reset. The Mode button allows you to scroll through the workout metrics and select the one you want to view. This way, you can also select the unit’s scan mode; in scan mode, the unit rotates all the metrics showing each one for 6 seconds. The Set button covers the workout goal function. And finally, the Reset button clears all the values on the monitor except the total count.

As we’ve mentioned above, the monitor unit is battery-powered. It requires two AAA batteries which are not included. The unit starts tracking your data when you begin rowing. It also turns off automatically after four minutes of inactivity on the rower.

Assembly and Maintenance

This Stamina rower is pretty easy to assemble. You basically have to connect the two main frame pieces together, add the two base bars, the pulling arm, the footrests, the seat, and the fitness monitor. This shouldn’t take more than one hour of your time. The task if pretty straightforward, the manual provides step-by-step instructions with attached schematics, and all the necessary tools are included.

For maintenance, the joints of the machine may require lubrication. The rail of the rower should be kept clean to prevent damage to it or to the wheels of the seat. Other than this, it’s recommended to periodically check for loose bolts and parts, and re-tighten them if needed.
