The SNODE E25 is one of the elliptical machines released in the first part of 2020. It’s a mid-range cross trainer made for home use. In terms of features, it can be compared with the XTERRA Fitness FS2.5 but offers 32 resistance levels and has online connectivity.

Frame construction

The SNODE E25 is constructed on a steel frame with a base made of oval tubing while the front mast and handlebars are made of cylindrical tubing. All the steel parts in the machine’s construction are coated with a chip-resistant and rust-resistant paint finish. The color used is black, but there is also a white version.

Of course, the machine also integrates several parts made of durable thermoplastic material. For example, the pedal trays, the covers of the drive system, and the side panels of the crank are plastic made. The main casing of the machine’s drive mechanism and the joint covers are white, while the covers of the crank feature a wooden pattern.

The fully assembled machine doesn’t have a very large footprint. It takes approx. 35″L x 20″W (89 x 51 cm) of floor space. However, considering that the front mast of the machine is slightly inclined forward, and the moving arms extend past the front base, the total length of the unit is approx. 54″ (137 cm). Plus, it is recommended to leave at least two feet of clearance all around the elliptical for ease of access and safe usage.

This SNODE elliptical trainer is fairly heavy. It weighs over 85 lbs (38.5 kg). Therefore, the transport of the packaged unit should be done by two people. But once the machine is assembled, it can easily be relocated by only one person. That’s because its front stabilizer incorporates two transport wheels.

Due to its weight and low center of gravity, this elliptical trainer provides excellent stability. Plus, both its base stabilizers feature adjustable levelers. Therefore, it’s not necessary to place it on a mat.

Like many other elliptical machines, the SNODE E25 is equipped with two sets of handlebars, one fixed, one mobile. The fixed handlebars have a looped, unified design. They integrate pulse sensors. They are non-adjustable and attach to the front mast of the machine via screws. The mobile handlebars feature long grips with oval grips at the top. They attach to the pedal bars so they cannot remain stationary for as long as you pedal. Both sets of handlebars have their grips covered by high-density foam sleeves for improved comfort.

Elliptical path, stride, and pedal height

The SNODE E25 is a rear-drive elliptical trainer. Therefore, its elliptical path is slightly inclined forward. Its front upright bar and the handlebars are also inclined forward. Therefore, a ride on this machine resembles a descent on a soft ramp.

As we’ve mentioned above, the machine’s pedal trays are made of durable thermoplastic material. They have a textured surface and side/front guards for improved foot stability. They don’t have any extra cushioning or articulation elements. Each pedal bar has three positions for attaching the pedal tray. Thus, you can have them a little closer or farther from the front base of the machine. Also, the crankset and the pedals are pretty sturdy and the machine can support users up to 265 lbs (120 kg).

Like most other rear-drive elliptical trainers in this feature range, the SNODE E25 does not offer a very long stride. Its stride length is approx. 14.6″ (37 cm). Therefore, it should be able to accommodate comfortably users up to 6’0″ – 6’1″ (183 – 185 cm). Taller users should still be able to use this cross trainer but they may not benefit from a complete range of motion.

This elliptical trainer does not have an incline system. Therefore, the position of the elliptical path is non-adjustable. Also, the pedals are non-adjustable and the stride length is fixed.

The SNODE E25 has a pedal step-up height of approx. 9″ (23 cm). However, the pedals stand at approx. 16″ (40 cm) above floor level at their highest point. Therefore, it is recommended to use the machine in a room with a ceiling that is at least 20″ (51 cm) higher than your own height.

Drive and resistance

The SNODE E25 elliptical machine is equipped with a motorized magnetic resistance system. Therefore, you will have to connect it to an electrical outlet to power up its console and be able to adjust the resistance (an adapter is included). This also means that the machine can adjust the resistance automatically and the console has pre-set workout programs.

The machine’s resistance system consists of a magnetic brake connected to the flywheel assembly and to a small servo motor. The motor is connected to the console, so when you adjust the resistance, or when the console adjusts the resistance automatically, it changes the position of the magnetic brake, increasing or decreasing the magnetic pull on the flywheel for more or less pedaling resistance.

This SNODE elliptical trainer offers a fairly decent micro-adjustability range. It offers 32 levels of resistance. The 1-5 levels deliver a low workout load which makes them great for warm-ups, muscle toning, or recovery training. Conversely, the top 30-32 levels of resistance provide considerably more pedal tension for anyone who wants to undergo a more consistent workout.

The machine’s flywheel weight is not specified. But as a general idea, the elliptical trainers in this spec range don’t have a flywheel heavier than 25 lbs (11.3 kg). It has a perimeter-weighted design, though, which improves inertia and motion stability, adding consistency to the ride.

The flywheel is bi-directional. Therefore, you can pedal in reverse if you want. However, you cannot coast on this machine, and as we’ve mentioned above, the mobile arms continue to move for as long as you pedal.

Last but not least, this elliptical cross trainer is equipped with a belt drive system. It uses a durable poly-v belt. This type of drivetrain comes with a few advantages. First of all, it delivers a smoother motion than a chain as it generates less vibration. And second of all, you don’t have to lubricate it periodically.

Console

The SNODE E25 elliptical machine is equipped with a mid-range console. To begin with, it features an LCD display divided into several sub-sections in order to show as many workout metrics as possible. It tracks speed, RPM, time, distance, calories, and pulse. Speed and distance can be set either to metric or English units. The pulse reading function is grip contact only. The console unit can only read your pulse if you hold on to the integrated sensors. It cannot communicate with a wireless HR chest strap.

The console unit has Bluetooth connectivity and it is also compatible with the free iConsole+ app available for iOS and Android. This app gives you the possibility to track your progress online, provides additional workout metrics and data, workout history, and more.

The usage of the iConsole+ app is not necessary, though. The SNODE E25 elliptical has 12 pre-set workout programs to choose from. Each program has its segment layout engraved under the console display. Some of them have an interval layout, others have a peak layout, while others simply increase the resistance as you progress.

The console also has a Recovery Function and a Body Fat calculator. Each one of these functions has its own quick selection key on the console. The Recovery function counts your pulse at the end of the workout and determines how long it takes for your heart to return to a normal BPM. Based on this result, it will give you a fitness rating between F1 – Excellent, and F6 – Poor. The Body Fat calculator requires you to input your data such as height, weight, age, and gender. Based on your input, it will calculate your body fat percentage and help you keep an eye on your weight.

The console does not have features like speakers, a workout fan, or a USB charging port. However, it does integrate a device holder. This accessory consists of a small tray placed under the display and offers the possibility to easily access your smartphone or tablet which can be quite handy especially if you use the iConsole+ fitness app.

Assembly and Maintenance

The machine’s drive and resistance base unit comes pre-assembled. However, the rest of the parts do require user assembly. You will basically have to attach the two base bars, the pedal bars, the pedal trays, the front upright mast, the moving arms, the fixed handlebars, and the console. This may take more than an hour of your time but the task is far from being difficult. Plus, the manual provides clear assembly instructions, and all the necessary tools are included. It is also recommended to lubricate the moving joints of the machine during the assembly to make sure they will function smoothly and won’t develop any squeaking.

Once the trainer is assembled, maintenance doesn’t require much. You just have to keep the machine clean and inspect it from time to time to make sure that app the parts function properly. The internal mechanism doesn’t require lubrication.
