Frame construction

The Famistar T600 treadmill features a steel frame but also integrates several parts made of thermoplastic material in its construction. For example, the motor cover, the side rail covers, and the console dashboard are made of durable plastic. All the steel parts are coated with a corrosion-resistant paint finish. The color used is black, this being the only color available for this machine.

One of the defining features of this treadmill is the set of springs integrated into its front base frame. These help reduce the longitudinal shock generated during running, as opposed to the cadence shock which is absorbed by the standard deck cushioning. These two springs are visible on each tube of the base frame.

The fully assembled treadmill is fairly large. It is approx. 61″ (155 cm) long, and 27″ (69 cm) wide. Plus, just as for any other treadmill, it is recommended to leave at least two feet of clearance on each side of the deck, and at least three feet of clearance at the rear of the deck for safe usage. This being said, the machine may not fit too well in a small room.

On the other hand, the treadmill is foldable. Its deck can be folded up to save space and to facilitate vacuuming under it. With the deck in folded position, the machine’s depth remains approx. 36″ (91.4 cm). The folding mechanism uses a hydraulic cylinder which slowly lowers the deck when unfolded to prevent damage.

The treadmill is fairly heavy. Its net weight is 127.8 lbs (58 kg), so the transport of the packaged unit requires at least two people. However, once it is assembled, it can easily be moved by only one person. The front base frame integrates transport wheels. The rear stabilizers rest on wheels as well.

Deck construction and incline

The Famistar T600 treadmill offers a fairly large running surface. Its belt is 48.4″ (123 cm) long, and 17.3″ (44 cm) wide. This being said, the machine should accommodate comfortably users up to 6’2″ (188 cm) allowing a complete range of motion. It is also sturdy enough to support users up to 300 lbs (136 kg).

The deck features a multi-layered belt with a non-slip rubber layer on top featuring a diamond texture for an improved grip. The internal rollers are crowned for superior traction. They integrate industrial-grade sealed bearings for a smooth motion.

The deck integrates several shock absorption elements concealed by the side rail covers. They considerably reduce the impact generated by your cadence rendering any run safer for your joints than a run on asphalt or concrete. Plus, the base frame has the suspension springs which reduce the front to back impact as well.

The Famistar T600 treadmill is equipped with a power incline system. This means that the incline of the deck can be adjusted from the console during your workout. It also means that the console can adjust the incline automatically, depending on the program in use.

The incline system consists of a motor (different from the drive motor) and a small lift placed under the front section of the deck. As you adjust the incline, or as the console automatically adjusts the incline, the motor uses the lift to elevate the front section of the deck.

The machine offers an incline range of 0% – 15%. There are controls for gradual incline adjustment integrated into the console and into the left grip of the machine. Also, the console has quick selection keys for the incline levels 3, 6, and 9.

Last but not least, the machine’s walking platform has a step-up height of approx. 8″ (21 cm). Also, with the incline set to maximum, the front section of the frame gains a few inches. Therefore, it is recommended to place and use the treadmill in a room with a ceiling that is at least 15″ (38 cm) higher than the tallest user.

Drive motor

The Famistar T600 treadmill features a 3.5 HP drive motor designed to provide top performance for prolonged workouts even at the maximum speed. It delivers a smooth and steady motion for the belt even if the user is close to the 300 lbs (136 kg) weight capacity. It also integrates a small flywheel for improved stability and to minimize belt vibration. This flywheel also enables the motor to run cooler with less amp draw which considerably increases its lifespan.

This treadmill makes available a speed range between 0.6 MPH and 9.9 MPH. The speed adjustment increments are 0.1 MPH which is quite a plus, as you can easily find the best pace for your workout. There are gradual speed adjustment buttons on the console and integrated into the right grip of the treadmill. Also, the console makes available quick speed selection controls for 3 MPH, 6 MPH, and 9 MPH.

The unit’s motor is not too loud. Its noise output is only 60 dB which is the equivalent of a normal conversation. However, depending on your running technique and on your weight, your cadence may generate more or less noise.

Console

The Famistar T600 treadmill is equipped with a pretty standard console. To begin with, it features a 5-inch LCD display with blue LED backlight and large digits for easy readability. It is divided into 5 sub-sections to show up to 5 workout metrics at once. It tracks time, speed, incline, distance, calories, and pulse. It is not telemetric, though. This means that it can only track your pulse through the metallic sensors integrated into the side grips of the machine.

The unit’s console does not have Bluetooth or WiFi connectivity, and it is not compatible with any fitness apps. However, it has 12 pre-set programs to choose from. Each program has its segment grid engraved into the console. They’re designed to cover most types of workouts. For example, some have an interval layout, others have a peak layout, while others will focus on helping you maintain a high cardio output.

The console also offers goal setting functions for time, distance, and calories burned. If a goal is selected for any of these, the display will count down from the selected value until it reaches zero, notifying you that you’ve completed your goal.

Other notable console features are the sound system, the device holder, and the accessory holders. The sound system consists of two speakers integrated at the bottom of the console unit. There is an AUX port on the right side of the console to which you can connect your smartphone or tablet via AUX cable, in order to play your music through the integrated speakers.

The device holder consists of a small shelf placed right above the speakers’ section. It is large enough to accommodate any tablet or smartphone. And finally, the side accessory holders are spacious enough to accommodate a water bottle, earphones, or other small items you might want to have at hand when running on your treadmill.

Assembly and Maintenance

The machine’s deck comes pre-assembled and attached to the base frame. You only need to attach the two upright bars, and the console. This shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes of your time. The manual provides clear step-by-step assembly instructions and all the necessary tools are included.

For maintenance, deck lubrication is necessary. A bottle of silicone lubricant is included with the machine. Also, as we’ve mentioned above, the Famistar T600 treadmill has an easy lubrication feature; the front casing has an opening when you can apply the lubricant without having to loosen the belt. Other than this, it is also recommended to keep the machine clean, especially the running belt, and periodically inspect it to make sure it still functions properly.
