The pooboo E916 is one of the elliptical trainers released in 2021. In terms of features, it is similar to the pooboo E208 that we’ve already covered here. However, it has a slightly higher maximum user weight limit, and a different pedal construction.

Frame construction

The pooboo E916 elliptical machine features a pretty sturdy frame made of steel tubing. It combines oval, cylindrical, and rectangular tubes in its construction for improved aesthetics. All the steel bars are coated with a corrosion-resistant paint finish; the color used is dark gray, this being the only color available for this model, at least for the moment.

The machine integrates several thermoplastic parts as well. The most notable ones are the side guards of the drive system, the pedal trays, the console casing, and several other small covers. Most of the plastic parts are black to match the rest of the machine.

The fully assembled trainer is not too large compared with other models. Its net footprint is approx. 52″L x 26″W (132 x 66 cm) while its highest point is approx. 65″ (166 cm) above the floor level. A clearance of at least two feet should be kept all around the elliptical though, for ease of access and correct usage.

The exact weight of the trainer is not specified, but as a general idea, it weighs around 70-80 lbs (31 – 36 kg). Thus, the packaged unit may not be too easy to carry by only one person. However, once the machine is assembled, it can easily be relocated as its front base stabilizer integrates a set of small wheels.

The machine features two sets of handlebars, one mobile and one fixed. The mobile handlebars feature long grips slightly curved forward with ball grips at the top. They are attached to the upright mast of the trainer and to the pedal bars. Therefore, they cannot be locked into position; they continue to move for as long as you pedal.

The fixed handlebars are attached to the top section of the mast. They don’t have any adjustability features. They integrate pulse sensors and the included fitness monitor can track your pulse. Both handlebars feature high-density foam grips for improved contact and comfort.

Elliptical path, stride, and pedal height

First of all, the pooboo E916 does not have an incline system, like the Schwinn 470, for example. Therefore, the angle of its elliptical path and the length of its stride are non-adjustable. Since it’s a rear-drive machine, the pedals reach a bit higher on their rear section, so the elliptical path is slanted forward by a few degrees. Due to this, a ride on this trainer resembles a descent on a soft ramp which leads to a more consistent workout for your glutes, thighs, and calves.

This pooboo elliptical trainer is equipped with a set of large pedals. The pedal trays have side guards and a textured surface for improved foot stability. They are non-adjustable and don’t have any extra articulations. However, just as for any elliptical machine, the pedaling motion generates very little impact on your joints.

The pedals are attached to two steel bars that connect to the machine’s crankset. They are durable enough to support users up to 245 lbs (111 kg). Also, the unit’s stride is approx. 13.5″ (34 cm). Thus, it should be able to accommodate users up to 6’2″ (188 cm) with no problem.

The pedal step-up height (lowest position from the floor) is 7″ (18 cm). Conversely, at their highest point, the pedals are at approx. 12″ (30 cm) above floor level. These being said, it is recommended to use the machine in a room with a ceiling that is at least 15″-16″ (38-40 cm) higher than your own height.

Resistance and drive

The pooboo E916 elliptical machine is equipped with a manual magnetic resistance system. Thus, you don’t need a power adapter for it. But on the other hand, its console unit cannot adjust the resistance automatically.

The machine’s resistance system consists of a magnetic brake attached to the flywheel system and to the tension knob visible on the front upright mast of the machine. When you turn the knob clockwise, the brake moves closer to the flywheel which increases the pedaling difficulty. Needless to say, the main advantage of the magnetic brake is that it does not touch the flywheel, so there is no friction, which leads to a seamless, whisper-quiet ride.

There are 8 levels of resistance available on this machine. The lowest level generates little resistance, great for conditioning, and recovery training. The 8th level, on the other hand, provides distinguishably more resistance, simulating a hill climb and giving you the possibility to train on a higher level.

The pooboo E916 elliptical features a belt drivetrain. It uses a poly-v belt designed for superior traction. This type of transmission comes with several advantages. For example, it generates slightly less vibration than a chain and does not require periodic lubrication.

Last but not least, this pooboo elliptical trainer integrates a 12 lbs (5.4 kg) flywheel. It is not super heavy but does have a perimeter-weighted design. This type of construction is meant to provide a better inertia

Fitness monitor

The pooboo E916 elliptical machine features a pretty standard fitness monitor. It’s equipped with an LCD display that tracks time, speed, distance, total distance, calories, and pulse. It does not have any pre-set programs, Bluetooth, or online connectivity. It is not compatible with any fitness apps. However, it does have goal settings for time, distance, and calories. So, if a target is selected for any of these metrics, the unit will count down from the selected value until it reaches zero.

The unit is easy to use. It features three buttons (Mode, Set, Reset). The Set button allows you to set goals for your workouts. The Mode button covers the navigation function; by pressing it repeatedly, you can scroll through the metrics and select the one your want to view on the display. This way, you can also select the Scan Mode which automatically rotates all the metrics showing each one for approx. 6 seconds. The Reset button clears all the values to zero.

The monitor unit is battery-powered. It starts up when you begin pedaling and also automatically turns off after a few minutes of inactivity on the elliptical. It also integrates a device holder with a large back support so it can accommodate most tablets or smartphones. However, the unit does not have any connectors for your device.

Assembly and Maintenance

The main body of the pooboo E916 elliptical comes pre-assembled. However, the rest of the parts require user assembly. You will have to attach the two base stabilizers, the front mast, the pedals, the moving arms, the fixed handlebars, and the fitness monitor. This may take more than an hour of your time, but the task is far from being difficult. Also, the manual provides all the necessary instructions, and all the tools required are included.

The internal parts of the machine do not require lubrication. So, in terms of maintenance, you only have to check for loose bolts and parts, and lubricate the joints in case they begin to squeak.

The Pros
