The NordicTrack C 700 treadmill is a mid-range model, designed for home use. To be clear, this the 2015 model, part number NTL16915. This particular unit has several features over the older models, such as Bluetooth connectivity, for example. It is similar to the NordicTrack T 6.5 S, but it is equipped with a slightly more powerful motor. There’s a lot to be said about this fitness machine, so in this review, we’ll try to cover as many aspects as possible regarding its features.

Frame and deck

The NordicTrack C 700 is a fairly large treadmill. When fully assembled it is 73″ (185.5 cm) long, and 36″ (91.5 cm) wide. On top of that, NordicTrack recommends keeping at least two feet of clearance on each side, and at least three feet of clearance at the rear of the deck, for safe operation. But on the other hand, the machine’s deck is foldable. It can be folded up, which reduces its length by approx. 2/3. Its folding mechanism involves a hydraulic latch which assists you with lowering the deck to prevent damage.

Like most treadmills, this NordicTrack model features a frame made of steel tubing. Therefore, it’s not exactly a light fitness machine. It weighs over 200 lbs, which pretty much means that its unboxing and assembly requires two people. On the other hand, this weight plays quite an important role in the machine’s overall stability and sturdiness. You can be sure that it won’t move or wobble when you engage in a more demanding workout. Also, its stability is enhanced by the adjustable stabilizers integrated into the rear of the deck. The stabilizers at the front are non-adjustable, though; they’re simple, rectangular rubber pads.

The front part of the metallic base of the frame integrates a set of transport wheels, though. So, with the deck folded up, the machine can easily be relocated, once it is assembled. Due to this feature, you will basically have to handle much less than half of its total weight when relocating it.

The treadmills deck offers a running platform of 55″L x 20″W (140 x 51 cm), which is long and wide enough to accommodate users up to 6’2″ – 6’3″ (188-190 cm), for running workouts. Taller users should also be able to use this treadmill, but during full running workouts, they may step on the motor case or not benefit from a complete stride. Also, the deck is designed to support users up to 300 lbs (136 kg).

This treadmill is equipped with a 1-ply rubber belt, which offers excellent traction, being also resistant to stretching. The belt is run over large, crowned rollers, 1.9″ (5 cm) in diameter, which deliver a smooth motion. They integrate industrial quality sealed ball bearings for a prolonged lifespan and maximum performance.

An important feature that must be mentioned here is the adjustable deck cushioning feature. The deck incorporates three adjustable FlexSelect cushioning cells on each side, similar to the NordicTrack C 990. One half-turn activates the cushioning elements to help reduce the impact on ankles and knees; another half-turn will result in a firm and stable running surface. But nonetheless, a run or jog on this treadmill results in less impact than running on asphalt and therefore leads to less fatigue or exercise-related joint pain.

Incline and step-up height

The NordicTrack C 700 treadmill features an automatic incline system, which consists of a small lift and motor, placed at the front of the deck. This being said, the incline can only be adjusted from the console, and the machine requires to be connected to a power circuit in order to make available this feature.

The incline system offers a ramp of up to 10% (which is approx. 8°). There are keys for quick incline and gradual incline adjustment on the console. Also, some of the onboard programs of the treadmill involve incline, and when such a program is chosen, the machine will adjust the incline of the running platform automatically, according to each segment of the workout.

When it comes to step-up height, the running surface stands at approx. 8″ (20 cm) above floor level, at 0% incline. At 10% incline, the front part will raise by a few inches, but basically, you’ll be situated on the deck at the middle, not all the way at the front. Differently put, the overall elevation that you will get by running at maximum incline should be approx. 12″. So, in conclusion here, the ceiling height in the room where the treadmill will be in use should be higher than your own height, plus about 20″ (51 cm), in order to avoid any issues.

Motor

As we’ve mentioned above, the NordicTrack C 700 treadmill is equipped with a slightly more powerful motor than the T 6.5 S model. It’s a 2.75 CHP motor designed to withstand long workouts at full speed without losing performance. It integrates a small flywheel which improves the stability of motion, resulting in a steadier operation of the tread belt.

This motor provides a running speed range between 0-10 MPH, which may not fit the requirements of a long run professional athlete, but for beginners or intermediate users, it can supply a consistent range of workouts. The speed can be adjusted in increments of 0.1 and 0.5 MPH. This means you can easily find the perfect pace for your workout.

Evidently, since it is a motorized, electric treadmill, it requires being connected to a power circuit in order to be operational. The power requirements for it are 120 volts and 15 Amps (or more). Also, installing a surge suppressor for this fitness machine is recommended.

Control unit

The NordicTrack C 700 features quite an inclusive console with a LED display which includes a Calorie Burn Rate bar. So, to begin with, this bar will indicate the approximate intensity level of your exercise. The main display of the unit has four readings, one for calories and incline, one for distance and time, one for pulse and pace, and one for speed and calories/hour. Each one of the four panels will alternate the two values that it hosts.

Distance can be calculated in miles or kilometers, while speed can be calculated in MPH or km/h. The front handles of the machine integrate pulse sensors, so the control unit can monitor your pulse if you hold on to them. However, the unit is also Bluetooth enabled, which means it can read your pulse through an HR chest strap transmitter.

As opposed to the older C 700, the console of the NTL16915 is iFit ready. This means that it integrates the iFit module, and you can connect it to your tablet, smartphone or laptop via Bluetooth connection, without any additional iFit module. However, you will still need an iFit subscription. iFit makes available many custom workouts, gives you the possibility to chose from many virtual trails from around the world, monitor your progress, compete with other runners etc. However, even if you’re not going to use any of the iFit features, the control unit itself has 20 workout programs to choose from.

In terms of amenities, the treadmill’s control unit features a sound system, a workout fan, two accessory holders and a tablet holder. The sound system consists of two large speakers, one on each side of the console. It is compatible with most tablets, smartphones or MP3 players and has volume controls on the console. The cooling fan is situated under the main controls of the console. It’s fairly large compared to the fans of other treadmills and can deliver quite some cooling. The tablet holder attaches to the top of the console and can accommodate any tablet. Also, there is a small ledge under the main controls which can host a tablet or phone.

Assembly and Maintenance

Most of this NordicTrack treadmill comes pre-assembled. In other words, the deck with the belt, shock absorption elements, motors, rollers, and folding mechanism are already assembled. You will basically have to attach only the upright bars and the console, which shouldn’t take more than one hour. The assembly manual provides clear assembly instructions, while the tools required are included.

For maintenance, even though the belt is pre-lubricated with high-grade, industrial lubricants from the factory, after a while it may require extra lubrication. You also should keep the running belt clean, free of dirt, textile fibers or other objects that might be dragged under it and get caught in the motor. Also, check the machine from time to time for loose bolts and parts, and retighten them if necessary.
