Frame construction
The Hasiman E305 is a pretty standard rear-drive elliptical trainer made for home use. It’s built on a frame made from tubular steel. Most of the tubes in its construction are cylindrical, the only exceptions are the pedals bars. All the steel parts are coated with a corrosion-resistant paint finish except for the crank arms which are chrome-plated. The paint finish is black, with the “Hasiman” logo painted white.
Of course, this elliptical trainer also incorporates several plastic parts. The most notable ones are the pedal trays, the covers of the drive and resistance elements, the tube caps, and the console casing. These are made from a durable thermoplastic material.
The E305 elliptical is not too heavy. Its exact weight is not specified but considering that the weight of its internal flywheel is only 15 lbs (6.8 kg), it probably doesn’t weigh more than 60 – 70 lbs (27 – 31 kg). This being said, it can be carried and assembled by only one person. Also, it’s pretty easy to relocate once assembled, as its front stabilizer features a set of small wheels.
The unit is not too large either. It is approx. 44″ (112 cm) long, and 17.7″ (45 cm) wide. Its highest point is given by the moving arms which reach approx. 50″ (127 cm) above the floor. It is recommended, though, to allow at least two feet of clearance all around the unit, for easy access.
Stride, elliptical path, and pedal height
The Hasiman E305 is a rear-drive elliptical trainer. This being said, its elliptical path is slightly inclined forward. This means that the pedaling motion resembles a descent on a soft ramp rather than a walk or jog on a straight road. This leads to a slightly better workout for your glutes and lower leg muscles.
The machine does not have an incline system. This means that you cannot adjust the length of its stride or the angle of the elliptical path. It offers a rather short stride of 13″ (33 cm). Due to this, it may not be the best choice for users over 6’3″ (190 cm), as they may not benefit from a complete leg extension. The recommended user height range for it is 5’1″ – 6’2″ (155 – 188 cm).
As we’ve mentioned above, the unit’s pedal trays are made from a durable thermoplastic material. They have a textured surface and guards on the inner side and at the front, for improved foot stability. They are non-adjustable and do not have any extra articulations.
The machine is rated for a maximum user weight limit of 500 lbs (226 kg). However, even though it has a pretty durable set of pedals, we wouldn’t recommend this machine to users that are heavier than 275 lbs (125 kg). That’s because most models in this price and feature range have a maximum user weight capacity of 275 – 300 lbs (125 – 136 kg).
Finally, at their lowest point, the pedals reach approx. 4″ (10 cm) above the floor. Conversely, the highest pedal point is approx. 15″ (38 cm) above floor level. Thus, you should use this elliptical trainer in a room with a ceiling that is at least 20″ (51 cm) higher than your own height.
Resistance and drive
The Hasiman E305 elliptical machine is equipped with a manual magnetic resistance system. This means that you don’t need a power adapter or a power cord for it. The only needed power source is a set of batteries for the fitness monitor.
The machine’s resistance system is composed of a magnetic brake, a tension cable, and a tension knob. The brake is attached close to the internal flywheel and is connected to the tension knob via a steel cable. Therefore, when you turn the knob clockwise, the magnets move closer to the flywheel which increases the pedaling difficulty.
The machine offers 8 levels of resistance. The lowest levels deliver a light pedaling difficulty, great for recovery training. Conversely, the 8th tension level provides considerably more resistance, great for anyone who wants a bit of challenge, and lose some extra pounds.
The E305 elliptical is equipped with two sets of handlebars. The fixed ones attach to the top section of the machine’s front upright bar. They have short grips and integrate pulse sensors. The mobile handlebars connect to the median section of the front upright bar and to the pedals. These have longer grips without sensors, they cannot be locked to remain stationary, and they continue to move for as long as you pedal.
The machine’s internal flywheel features a perimeter-weighted design for improved inertia. As we’ve mentioned above, it is not too heavy; it only weighs 15 lbs (6.8 kg). It is also bi-directional. Therefore, you can pedal both ways with the same resistance so you can alternate workouts if you want to focus different muscle groups.
Like most other ellipticals or exercise bikes with a magnetic resistance system, the Hasiman E305 features a belt drive system. It integrates a poly-v belt designed for superior traction. As opposed to a chain, it does not require lubrication and generates slightly less vibration.
Fitness monitor
The Hasiman E305 elliptical trainer is equipped with a pretty basic fitness monitor. It does not have pre-set programs, it does not have Bluetooth connectivity, nor is compatible with any fitness app. It also isn’t connected to the trainer’s resistance system so it cannot adjust the resistance automatically.
The monitor unit features a small LCD display. It tracks time, speed, distance, total distance, calories, and pulse. It does not show RPM or watts. Speed and distance are shown in metric units and there is no option for setting them to English units. The pulse reading function is grip only; in order for it to track your pulse, you have to hold on to the integrated sensors. You cannot sync it with a wireless HR chest strap.
The monitor unit is easy to use. It only has one button. You can press this button to select the workout metric that you want to see or select the Scan Mode. In Scan Mode, the unit rotates all the metrics showing each one for a few seconds. You can also press and hold down the button to reset it.
The machine’s fitness monitor features a device holder. Its top section is designed like a small shelf that can host a small tablet or phone. It is battery-powered and requires two AAA batteries. It begins recording your data when you start pedaling and also automatically turns off if it does not detect any activity on the machine for more than 4 minutes.
Assembly and Maintenance
The drive and resistance unit of the E305 elliptical trainer comes pre-assembled but the rest of the parts require user assembly. You will have to attach the two base bars, the pedals, the main upright bar, the handlebars, and the fitness monitor. This may take up to an hour but the process is fairly simple. Plus, the manual provides clear assembly instructions and there is also an assembly video available.
For maintenance, all you need to do is keep the machine clean. The joints may require lubrication, but if you’ve greased them during assembly, this shouldn’t be necessary for a long time. The internal parts do not require any lubrication.
