Frame & accessories
The frame construction of the Body Xtreme Fitness BXF002 indoor cycling trainer can be compared to the Sunny SF-B901 or the Sunny SF-B1002. It’s a durable, rectangular steel tubing frame, capable of withstanding loads of up to 250 lbs (113.3 kg). The main body of the bike is coated with a chip-resistant and corrosion-resistant paint finish. The color used for the finish is light gray for this model, while the posts of the seat and the handlebars are chrome-coated.
The bike has a pretty heavy construction. With all the parts assembled, it weighs over 90 lbs (41 kg). This is approx. twice the weight of an average mountain bike, and for an indoor cycle it’s quite important as it provides extra stability. Plus, both its bases are equipped with adjustable, rubberized stabilizers which allow you to perfectly level it on any type of floor.
The bike’s frame does not fold in any way. However, it offers excellent portability as its front base integrates a set of small wheels which allow you to easily carry it to its storage location once you have finished with your workout.
The frame has a step-up pad which unites the seat tube with the main oblique tube of the frame. This small bar offers the possibility to perform leg stretches or various spin workouts which require you to dismount and step-up / step-off the frame. Most bikes with a V-frame, such as the ActionLine A84016, for example, don’t have this feature. The step-up bar is also shielded by a durable ABS cover to prevent the paint finish from wearing out due to prolonged use.
The Body Xtreme BXF002 is not an extremely large trainer. With the frame fully assembled, its maximum length reaches approx. 50.4″ (128 cm), while it’s width is 20.1″ (51 cm). However, it is recommended to assign a usage are for it of at least two feet all around it, to be able to perform any spin workout without any hindrance.
In terms of accessories, there are three that can be mentioned here. One is the bottle holder which attaches to the main bar of the frame. It comes with a durable aluminum water bottle.
Another feature that many other exercise bikes do not have is the set of elastic bands attached to the front base of the bike. They’re equipped with D-handles and rubberized grips, giving you the possibility to perform arm curls, or in general, other exercises for the arms while pedaling. Plus, the box also includes a workout towel with the Body Xtreme logo embroidered on it.
Seat & handlebars
The Body Xtreme Fitness BXF002 exercise bike features a slim spin seat with extra cushioning at the rear and a longitudinal groove for an improved airflow under the rider. It’s a saddle similar to the one on the BodyCraft SPT-Mag trainer; it’s not designed for super comfort, but on the other hand, this is a bike made for spin workouts and you should be pedaling while standing on the pedals for at least 1/3 of your workout.
The seat offers 4-way adjustability. Its upright post offers several adjustment positions, while its horizontal slider also provides a few inches of fore/aft travel. These being said, the bike can accommodate users between 5’0″ (153 cm) and 6’4″ (193 cm) with no problem, allowing a complete and healthy leg extension.
The bike’s handlebar only offers 2-way adjustability (up, down). It has a multi-grip design with a loop aero bar in the middle which provides the possibility of a close, parallel grip. The lateral, longer grips of the handlebar are covered by rubber foam material to provide a comfortable and secure grip. They also integrate metallic EKG sensors so that the unit’s console can monitor your pulse.
Resistance & drive
The Body Xtreme BXF002 trainer is equipped with a friction resistance similar to the Goplus bike. It’s a brake system that resembles a standard bike brake, with two felt pads which apply lateral friction to the flywheel. It’s attached to the tension dial on top of the frame; by turning the dial clockwise, the brake tightens and delivers more friction which results in a higher pedaling resistance.
There are no pre-determined resistance levels (or “clicks”) marked on the bike’s tension dial. You simply tighten the brake onto the flywheel until you obtain the desired tension level. Also, there’s a small lever attached to the tension dial, which serves the purpose of an emergency brake. By pressing it down, the brake applies maximum friction to the flywheel which causes it to stop immediately.
With regards to the bike’s drive elements, the first to cover here is the flywheel. This Body Xtreme exercise bike comes equipped with a 40 lbs (18.1 kg), inertia-enhanced flywheel. It’s designed to deliver a very consistent momentum and a smooth pedaling motion. It’s also bi-directional; in other words, you can pedal backward and the resistance remains constant. However, you cannot coast on the bike.
The bike integrates a highly durable 3-piece crankset with solid steel crank arms. It’s designed to support the entire weight of the user (up to 250 lbs). In other words, as long as you don’t weigh over 250 lbs, you should be able to pedal while standing up on the pedals without any problem.
The included pedals are also metallic. They’re equipped with toe cages to provide maximum foot stability and an extra thrust during pedaling. However, they don’t have SPD clips for spin shoes.
Last but not least, the bike is equipped with a chain drive system. It integrates a standard bike chain shielded by a tough ABS cover. Like any bike chain drive, it offers two main advantages. One, it’s extremely durable and with proper maintenance, it can last a lifetime. Two, in case it brakes or catches rust, you can basically find a replacement for it in any bike shop.
Exercise meter
This Body Xtreme Fitness exercise bike includes a fitness meter unit equipped with a large LCD display. The unit can track time, distance, total distance (odometer), speed, calories, and heart rate. It’s very easy to operate; it only has one button which toggles ON/OFF its SCAN function which rotates the workout metrics showing each one of them for a few seconds. It also covers the unit’s reset function; by pressing and holding it down for a few seconds you can clear all the values to zero.
The meter unit can track your pulse via the metallic sensors integrated into the handlebars. However, it’s not telemetric; it doesn’t work with Polar or other types of HR chest strap transmitters.
In order to start the meter up, you can either press its button or begin pedaling. It automatically starts when it detects flywheel movement. It also has a sleep function to which it will enter after several minutes of inactivity on the bike.
The meter is battery-powered, so the bike doesn’t need to be connected to a power source. It also plays no role in the bike’s resistance adjustment.
Assembly and Maintenance
Like most other exercise bikes, the Body Xtreme BXF002 comes partially assembled. The flywheel, the resistance system, the crank, and chain are already attached to the frame. Therefore, all you have to do is attach the base bars, the seat, the handlebars, the pedals, the console, and the resistance bands. This shouldn’t take longer than 30-40 minutes.
For maintenance, it is recommended to periodically lubricate the chain. It’s also recommended to periodically check for loose bolts or parts, in order to re-tighten them if it’s necessary.
