Frame construction
The OMA 5108EB treadmill features a steel frame combining oval and rectangular tubes in its construction. All the steel parts are double-coated with an abrasion-resistant and rust-resistant paint finish. The color used is black with the “OMA” logo painted white, these being the only colors available for this treadmill.
The treadmill is smaller than the OMA 5105B version. With all the parts assembled, it is only 59.5″ (151 cm) long, and 26.7″ (68 cm) wide. It still is recommended, though, to allow at least two feet of clearance on each side of the deck, and at least three feet of clearance at the rear of the machine, for safe usage.
The machine is foldable. With the deck folded up, its footprint becomes 35.8″L x 26.7″W (98 x 68 cm). The folding mechanism consists of a hydraulic cylinder that slowly lowers the deck when you unfold it to prevent floor damage or any damage to the unit’s deck.
The OMA 5108EB treadmill is a bit lighter than the older model. Its net weight is 92.2 lbs (42 kg). This being said, the transport of the packaged unit requires two persons or at least a box trolley. However, the front base of the frame integrates transport wheels, so once the machine is assembled, it can easily be moved by only one person.
Deck construction and incline
The OMA 5108EB treadmill is equipped with a manual incline system. It has two folding rear stabilizers similar to the ADVENOR YD106 or the Sunny Health & Fitness FA-7967. These have three adjustment positions offering the possibility to obtain an incline of approx. 0°, 2°, or 4°. The two rear stabilizers lock into position via pins which you can easily and quickly remove and reattach when needed. Also, since the unit’s incline system requires manual adjustment, you have to pause your workout whenever you want to adjust it.
As we’ve mentioned above, this OMA treadmill offers a slightly shorter running surface than its predecessor. It is only 45.3″ (115 cm) long but does have the same 16.5 (42 cm) width. Also, due to this change, the deck can support heavier loads so the machine is rated for a maximum user weight limit of 300 lbs (136 kg), up from 220 lbs (100 kg).
The machine is equipped with a multi-layer belt with a rubberized top layer for a superior grip. It also has several side cushioning elements to reduce the impact generated during each foot strike. The integrated rollers have a crowned design for superior traction and to prolong the lifespan of the belt. They also integrate high-grade ball bearings for a smooth belt motion.
Last but not least, the deck’s maximum step-up height (with the incline set at 0°) is approx. 7″ (18 cm). Therefore, it is recommended to use this machine in a room with a ceiling that is at least 10″ (25.4 cm) higher than the height of the tallest user.
Drive motor
The OMA 5108EB treadmill is a fitness machine made for home use. Therefore, it is not equipped with a super-powerful motor. However, the motor it comes with does offer a 2.25 peak HP output so it should be able to provide a decent performance even if you run for more than an hour. It is recommended, though, the let the machine rest for at least 10 minutes after every one hour of usage.
Needless to say, since the OMA 5108EB is an electric treadmill, it requires an external power source. It comes with a power cord that attaches to the front section of the deck. The cord has a standard US plug.
The unit’s motor offers a speed range of 0.6 – 8.1 MPH. The exact speed adjustment increments are not specified. However, most motors in this spec range offer adjustment increments of either 0.1 MPH, or 0.5 MPH, so the transition between speed levels is done smoothly without sudden jerks. The speed of the belt can be adjusted from the +/- keys on the console or from the controls integrated into the right grip of the machine.
The motor itself is not too noisy. However, depending on your running technique, speed, weight, fitness equipment, and other factors, your cadence may generate more or less noise. Therefore, the machine can be heard when it is in use, but as a general idea, the level of generated noise should not cover the sound of a TV set on a moderate volume level.
Console
The OMA treadmill 5108EB features a console with a 3-section LED display. It tracks time, speed, distance, calories burned, and heart rate. Speed and distance are shown in metric units (kpm/h and kilometers); they cannot be set to English units. Also, the pulse reading function is grip-contact only. In order for it to track your pulse, you have to hold on to the sensors integrated into its side grips. It cannot track your pulse from a wireless transmitter.
The console unit does not have Bluetooth, WiFi, or any type of networking features. Therefore, it is not compatible with any fitness apps and you cannot sync it with your phone. But nonetheless, it has 36 pre-set programs in its memory to keep yourself interested and motivated. These programs cover different types of workouts. For example, some have an interval-based layout, others offer a light workout, while others focus on helping you boost your cardiovascular shape.
Along with the 36 pre-set programs, the console also has 3 user-defined programs. So, three different users can create their own custom program and save it for later use.
Among other notable console features, we can mention two bottle holders and a device holder. The bottle holders consist of two trays molded into the dashboard of the console, one on each side. The device holder is a small tray placed between the displays and the controls; you can place a tablet or your phone on it to have it at hand when exercising.
Assembly and Maintenance
One of the best parts of this machine is that it comes almost completely assembled. All you have to do is unfold it, secure the two console supporting bars in the upright position with six screws. This shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes. All the necessary tools are included, and the manual provides clear assembly instructions.
For maintenance, it is recommended to keep the treadmill clean, especially the belt to prevent any textile fibers or debris from getting caught into the motor. The belt requires periodic lubrication. It’s also recommended to periodically inspect the machine and check for loose bolts or broken parts.
