The FYC JK31-4 treadmill is one of the fitness machines released in 2021. It’s a small and affordable treadmill made for home use. In terms of design, it can be compared with the Sunny Health & Fitness SF-T7951. However, it’s a bit smaller, does not have an incline system, and has fewer console features and programs.

Key Features and Specifications

  • Assembled dimensions: 50.4L x 21.3W x 41.3H inches (128L x 54W x 105H cm)
  • Running surface: 41.3L x 15.7W inches (105L x 40W cm)
  • Assembled weight: 66.14 lbs (30 kg)
  • Supported weight: 265 lbs (120 kg)
  • Motor: 2.5 HP, 0.5 – 8.5 MPH
  • Incline: No
  • Console: 12 programs
  • Extras: Tablet holder

Frame construction

The FYC JK31-4 treadmill features a pretty sturdy steel frame. Its base frame is made of rectangular tubing, the two upright bars are oval, while the two handrails are cylindrical. The base frame tubes and the upright tubes are double-coated with a rust-resistant paint finish while the handrails feature a PVC foam coating for improved comfort and contact. The paint finish color is white, this being the only color available for this treadmill, at least for the moment.

As we’ve mentioned above, the treadmill is rather small compared with other similar models. It is only 50.4″ (128 cm) long, and 21.3″ (54 cm) wide. This being said, it can fit pretty well even into a small room, but it’s still recommended to leave at least a few feet of clearance at the rear and on each side of the deck.

The treadmill is foldable. The two upright bars can be unlocked and folded over the base, while the two handrails can easily be removed. When folded, the treadmill can be stored against a wall, or even under a bed or couch, if there is enough clearance. In its folded position, without the handrails and the tablet holder, the unit is only 5.1″ (13 cm) thick.

The FYC JK31-4 treadmill is fairly light as well. Its net weight is only 66.14 lbs (30 kg). This being said, it can be carried and assembled by only one person. Once it is assembled, it can easily be moved as its front base integrates a set of small wheels. Also, the unit rests on several adjustable levelers with large rubber pads for improved stability.

Deck construction

The FYC JK31-4 treadmill offers a fairly small running surface. Its active area is only 41.3″L x 15.7″W (105 x 40 cm). This being said, it may not be the best choice for a tall person. For example, if you’re over 6’0″ (183 cm), you may not benefit from a complete range of motion on a higher speed level.

The machine’s deck is pretty durable. The exact thickness and material of the internal deckboard are not specified. However, the unit should be able to hold users up to 265 lbs (120 kg) with no problem.

This treadmill does not have large cushioning elements visible on the side of the deck like other treadmills, such as the XTERRA Fitness TR200, for example. However, its deck does integrate several small shock absorbers which reduce some of the impact of the ride.

This treadmill is equipped with a multi-layered belt. Its belt actually comprises 5 layers of different materials. The top layer is rubber-made, water-resistant, and textured in order to provide a better grip. The second layer provides some insulation to reduce static. The third layer is the main structural strength element. The fourth layer adds shock absorption, and the fifth layer provides extra compression.

The FYC JK31-4 treadmill does not have an incline system. However, it’s important to mention that the machine’s deck is not perfectly horizontal; it is slightly higher at the front, so it is slanted by approx. 0.5°. But nonetheless, since the machine does not have an incline system, you cannot adjust the angle of the walking platform.

This treadmill does not have a very high step-up height either. The height of the belt is approx. 4″ (~10 cm) above the floor. Therefore, it is recommended to use the machine in a room with a ceiling that is at least 10″ (25 cm) higher than the height of the tallest user.

Drive motor

The FYC JK31-4 is an electric treadmill. This being said, you will need to connect it to a power source to start up its console and make adjustments. It comes with a power cord featuring a US power plug. The cord attaches to the front base of the deck. There is also an On/Off switch next to the connector of the power cord.

The treadmill is equipped with a 2.5 HP motor which offers a fairly decent performance for a small machine. Even if the user is close to the maximum weight limit (265 lbs), the motor should be able to run smoothly without losing performance or overheating for at least a few hours. It is recommended, though, to let it rest for a few minutes after every 1-2 hours of use.

The unit’s motor offers a speed range between 0.5 and 8.5 MPH. The speed adjustment increments are 0.1 MPH, so you can easily adjust your pace when changing the speed. The console offers buttons for gradual speed adjustment only. It does not have buttons for quick speed level selection.

The motor itself is not very noisy. Its noise output is only 60 dB which is not too bad. As a general idea, you should be able to hear the sound of a TV set on a moderate volume level with no problem. However, depending on your workout gear, running technique, weight, and several other factors, your cadence may generate more or less noise.

Console

The FYC JK31-4 treadmill features a pretty standard LED display console, similar up to a point to the console of the Sunny SF-T7909. Its display is divided into 6 sub-sections and shows (from left to right) speed, steps, time, distance, calories, and mode. Speed and distance are shown in MPH and miles; there is no possibility to change them to metric units. Also, this particular treadmill does not have a pulse reading function.

The treadmill does not have online connectivity and it is not compatible with any fitness apps. However, it does have 12 pre-set workout programs. Each program has 20 segments and the speed varies from a segment to another. The pre-set workout time for each program is 30 minutes, but you can always change it. The duration of each segment is time/20.

The console also offers goal-setting functions. You can select a workout goal for time, distance, or calories. If a goal is selected, it will count down from the selected value until it reaches zero.

The console unit is pretty easy to use. It has Start/Stop buttons, speed adjustment buttons (+, -), there’s also a Mode button for selecting a workout goal, and also a Program button that allows you to scroll through the program database and select the one you want to use.

The console does not have built-in speakers for playing music. It also does not have bottle holders, a USB port, or a workout fan. However, it does have a tablet holder. This attaches to the front section of the console; its top is adjustable so you can fix your device better. It’s also easy to remove in case you want to fold and store your treadmill away.

Assembly and Maintenance

The FYC JK31-4 treadmill comes almost completely assembled. You only have to remove it from the box, unfold the two support bars with the console and secure them in the upright position, then attach the two handrails and the tablet holder. This shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes of your time. All the necessary tools are included and the manual provides clear assembly instructions.

For maintenance, it is recommended to keep the machine clean, especially the belt, to prevent textile fibers, debris, or small items from being dragged into the motor. The belt also requires periodic lubrication; the manual provides all the necessary instructions for it. Other than this, you should also periodically inspect the machine and check for loose bolts and parts.

The Pros

  • Sturdy construction – can support users up to 265 lbs;
  • Folding deck, space-saving design;
  • Easily detachable handrails and tablet holder;
  • Transport wheels on the front base frame;

It offers a running surface of 41.3″L x 15.7″W with a multi-layered belt and a LED display console with 12 pre-set programs. It is also foldable for easy storage. In all, it’s an affordable treadmill, great for light to medium intensity cardio workouts, muscle toning, stamina development, and weight loss.

    I have been using this model daily for a month and have no operating problems. I would like to adjust the “alarm” level. When it is powered on or any changes made, a VERY loud beep is emitted. Is there any way to turn this down or off so I do not disturb others. Seriously, it would wake the dead.

    1. Unfortunately, there is no option to turn the alarm off, unless someone with tech experience takes the console apart and disables the internal speaker. Evidently, this cannot be done with ease and would void the warranty of the product. It’s definitely not recommended.
