The YPC 90 lbs adjustable dumbbell set includes two dumbbells up to 90 lbs each, with their trays. The dumbbells have a very similar design and construction to the Bowflex SelectTech 1090. However, the price is approx. $100 lower per dumbbell so we can say that the YPC dumbbell set is a better deal.

Dumbbell construction
To begin with, the YPC 90 lbs adjustable dumbbells combine steel and a durable nylon material. The actual weight plates are made of steel, but each one of them is sealed into a sturdy nylon casing. Each plate has a small notch that allows the handle to grab it if selected.
This type of construction has advantages and disadvantages. The main disadvantage is that the dumbbells are more fragile than the classic dumbbells with cast iron plates and collars. If you drop them, there is a good chance that the nylon casing of the plates will sustain damage and they won’t stick to the handles anymore. It is also not recommended to perform push-up exercises with them. But this pretty much stands for most adjustable dumbbells.
Then again, the main advantage is that you can easily adjust the weight of each dumbbell, without having to remove collars and manually load and unload plates. The selector on each side of the dumbbell offers the possibility to quickly select the desired weight. Also, the nylon casing prevents the plates from catching rust.
One of the important aspects that we must mention here is that the YPC 90 lbs dumbbells are very large. They’re actually considerably larger than classic dumbbells of the same weight. Each dumbbell is 17.7″ (45 cm) long, 9.8″ (25 cm) wide, and 9.8″ (25 cm) high. This may be a bit inconvenient for a small person, especially when performing horizontal chest presses. But on the other hand, you basically get 17 sets of dumbbells all in one.
The handles are made of solid steel with chrome plating. Their grips are textured and elliptical-shaped for improved ergonomics and for improved contact. They do not have the urethane covers like the Bowflex SelectTech models, though. Therefore, if your hands sweat abundantly during lifting, gloves may be necessary as should be the case with most dumbbells with metallic grips.
Adjustment system
The YPC 90 lbs dumbbells are selectorized. Each dumbbell has two large dials, one on each head. So, depending on the weight that you select, the inner hooks will grab the right weight plates. As a general idea, if you want the dumbbell to weigh 40 lbs (18.1 kg), you will have to select 40 on each dial.
Each dumbbell offers a weight range between 10 lbs (4.5 kg) and 90 lbs (40.8 kg). In other words, the “empty” handles, without any plates attached, weigh 10 lbs (4.5 kg). Conversely, a dumbbell with all the plates attached weighs 90 lbs (40.8 kg). So, the total weight of the set is 180 lbs (86 kg).
The exact weight of each plate is not specified. But since the starting weight of each dumbbell is 10 lbs (4.5 kg), and the adjustment increments are 5 lbs (2.26 kg), the smaller plates probably weigh 2.5 lbs (1.1 kg). Therefore, the plates for each dumbbell head probably are 2.5 lbs (1.1 kg), 5 lbs (2.26 kg), 7.5 lbs (3.4 kg), 10 lbs (4.5 kg), and 15 lbs (6.8 kg). So, even though the YPC 90 lbs dumbbells are larger than the average 90 lbs fixed dumbbells, they will still save a lot of storage space.
Accessories
The YPC 90 lbs dumbbell set doesn’t include too many accessories. The only accessories that come with the dumbbells are the storage and adjustment trays.
They are made from the same durable polymer as the covers of the weight plates. They are actually pretty necessary for the adjustment of the dumbbells as they keep the weight plates well-aligned. This way, you can be sure that the selector will lock correctly and grab the desired plates. Nonetheless, the dumbbells can be adjusted without the trays, but this is not recommended as it can lead to damage to the plates.
