The Sunny SF-T7820 is one of the heaviest treadmills available from Sunny Health & Fitness. However, even though it has a bulky and sturdy construction, it still is only a treadmill for home use, not a light-commercial unit. It’s also one of the newest fitness machines released by this company for 2019.

Frame and deck

The Sunny SF-T7820 features a heavy structure frame; with all the parts assembled, it weighs 196 lbs (89 kg), a weight that adds plenty of stability to the unit. All sustaining parts within the frame construction are made of steel, coated with a corrosion-resistant paint finish. The color used is light gray, this being the only color available for this trainer at the moment.

Of course, the machine incorporates several ABS parts as well. The motor cover, the side rail covers, and the dashboard that integrates the console are all made of durable ABS material. The side rail covers are also rubberized at the center, in order to prevent foot slippage when you need to pause your walking or running.

The fully assembled treadmill is fairly large. It takes approx. 69.5″L x 34″W (176 x 86 cm) of floor space. It also requires at least three feet of clearance at the rear, and at least two feet of clearance on each side, for safe access and operation. This being said, you should assign a usage surface for it of at least 110″ x 80″ (280 x 203 cm).

On the other hand, the Sunny Health & Fitness SF-T7820 Performance Treadmill has a folding deck. The folding mechanism uses a hydraulic cylinder which slowly lowers the deck when you unfold it, to prevent any damage. With the deck folded up, the unit’s length is reduced to 49″ (125 cm). Even if you’re not going to store this treadmill in a folded position, this feature is still great, as it offers you the possibility to clean or vacuum under the deck with ease.

The front base of the metallic frame is equipped with four adjustable stabilizers which allow you to perfectly level the unit. It also has transport wheels which facilitate the machine’s relocation.

The Sunny SF-T7820 treadmill offers a running surface of 55″L x 19.7″W (140 x 50 cm). Although it’s approx. 5″ (13 cm) shorter than the running belt of a light-commercial treadmill such as the ProForm PRO 9000, it still offers plenty of running space for users up to 6’2″ (188 cm). The deck is also rated for a user capacity of 285 lbs (130 kg).

Finally, the unit’s deck integrates several shock absorption elements. Two of them are larger and placed at the center of the deck, with the purpose of reducing vibration. They’re the red elements that can be seen on each side of the deck. However, there also are six more cylindrical internal cushions, placed two at the front, two at the middle and two at the rear, which considerably reduce the stress generated on your joints by the cadence.

Incline and step-up height

The Sunny Health & Fitness SF-T7820 is equipped with a motorized incline system. This means that its incline can only be adjusted from the console, while the machine is connected to a power source. Also, the incline system is automatic. In other words, some of the programs will auto-adjust the incline of the deck throughout their duration.

The deck provides an incline range between 0% and 15%. There are keys for gradual and quick incline adjustment on the console. The gradual incline controls adjust the incline in increments of 1%, while the quick controls allow you to select between the 3, 6, 9 and 12 incline levels.

The step-up height of the deck is approx. 10″ (26 cm). Plus, with the incline set on its highest level, the front part of the deck will raise by a few inches. Therefore, it’s recommended to place and use the machine in a room with a ceiling that is at least 15″ – 20″ (38-51 cm) higher than your own height.

Drive motor

This Sunny Health & Fitness treadmill is equipped with a 2.5 HP motor, similar to the ASUNA 7750 model. This motor is powerful enough to support prolonged workouts while running at full speed, without overheating or losing performance, even if the user is close to the specified 285 lbs (130 kg) weight capacity. It’s also equipped with a small flywheel which reduces vibration and provides steadiness to the motion of the belt.

Although it’s not a high peak motor, it still provides a speed range between 0.6 and 12.6 MPH. The speed increments are 0.1 MPH. Due to this type of micro-adjustment, you can easily find the exact speed that fits the length of your stride.

Just as for the incline, the console provides gradual speed adjustment keys and quick speed selection keys. The gradual keys have a double function. By pressing them once, the speed adjusts by 0.1 MPH. By pressing and holding one for more than 2 seconds, the speed will adjust continuously until you reach your desired level. The quick selection speed controls are for the speed levels 2, 4, 7 and 9 (MPH).

Console

The Sunny SF-T7820 is equipped with a mid-range programmable console featuring a 7″ LCD display with LED backlight. It’s divided into several sub-sections in order to show all the workout metrics at once. It tracks time, distance, calories burned, steps, pulse, and of course, the current incline and speed levels. Speed and distance can be displayed in either metric or English unit. However, for the pulse reading function, you can only use the integrated sensors. The unit is not telemetric and cannot track your heart rate through a wireless transmitter.

The console does not have Bluetooth connectivity, nor it is compatible with any online fitness apps. But nonetheless, it does offer 36 preset programs and 3 user-defined programs. When a preset program is in use, the machine will auto-adjust the speed and incline. Each preset program has its own specific; some are better to use for muscle toning, other for cardiovascular performance, while others are great for losing weight. Also, the 3 user-defined programs give you the possibility to create and save your own custom program.

The machine’s console also has a Body Mass Index function. This program will prompt you to input your personal data such as gender, age, height, and weight. Based on your input, it will calculate the percentage of your body fat.

Last but not least, the console integrates a tablet holder which is placed under the display. It does not have any connection ports for recharging it. Also, the ABS dashboard of the console features two molded trays for your hydration bottles or other small accessories.

Assembly and Maintenance

The deck of the machine, along with the incline and drive motors, comes already assembled. All you need to do is attach the two front masts, the console, and several small covers. All the tools required for it are included. The manual provides clear assembly instructions. Thus, the whole task shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes.

For maintenance, lubricating the deck periodically is required. The manual provides all the necessary instructions for it. Also, keeping the belt clean and vacuuming under the unit is recommended. Other than this, a periodic check for loose parts, belt tightness and alignment is recommended.
