The Sunny SF-B2883 upright bike offers a similar range of features as the Bladez 200U that we’ve already covered here. Frame construction

Although the Sunny Health & Fitness SF-B2883 is an exercise bike made for home use, it features a durable steel frame with a weight capacity of 240 lbs (109 kg). It’s made of thick steel tubing, while the base with all the drive and resistance elements is covered by ABS shields.

Similar to other upright bikes in this feature range, the Sunny SF-B2883 has a small footprint. It takes approx. 34″L x 22.5″W (86 x 57 cm) of floor space, while the top of the handlebar reaches approx. 55.5″ (141 cm) above floor level. It is recommended, though, to leave at least two feet of clearance all around it for ease of access and unhindered usage.

The bike isn’t extremely heavy either. It weighs approx. 60.8 lbs (27.6 kg). Therefore, it can be carried and assembled by only one person. Also, once it is fully assembled, it can be easily relocated via the front transport wheels.

Both base bars of the bike have a triangular shape for extra stability. The rear base is equipped with two adjustable stabilizers. Thus, you can easily level it on any type of floor. The front base rests on two non-adjustable pads. Both rear and front footpads are rubberized for extra floor protection.

All the metallic parts in the bike’s frame construction are coated with a corrosion-resistant paint finish. The color used is black, this being the only color available for this Sunny exercise bike (at least for the moment).

Seat and handlebars

The Sunny Health & Fitness SF-B2883 exercise bike is equipped with a classic saddle. Its top is slightly larger than the slim seats included with some spin bikes. It is approx. 12.5″ (31.75 cm) long, and 12″ (30.4 cm) wide, designed to provide an optimal contact surface. Also, its top is contoured for extra comfort.

The bike’s seat offers 4-way adjustability (front, back, up, down). Its upright post has several adjustment positions and its horizontal slider also allows a few inches of front to back adjustment. The upright post offers an adjustment span of approx. 9″ (22.8 cm), for users with an inseam between 26″ and 35″ (66 – 88.9 cm). This being said, the bike should accommodate users up to 6’3″ (190 cm) with no problem, allowing a complete leg extension. Also, as we’ve mentioned above, the bike is rated for a weight capacity of 240 lbs (109 kg) which pretty much applies to the seat as well.

This Sunny exercise bike is equipped with a multi-grip handlebar, featuring two long lateral grips curved at the top in order to provide close grip possibilities. The bike’s handlebar is non-adjustable. It attaches to the front upright bar via two bolts so you cannot adjust its angle. Also, the height of the front upright bar cannot be adjusted.

The handlebar is fully covered by a layer of rubber foam material to provide a secure grip. The side grips integrate metallic pulse sensors, so the bike’s console can monitor your heart rate if you hold on to them.

Drive and resistance

To begin with, the Sunny SF-B2883 upright bike integrates a 6.6 lbs (3 kg) flywheel. Evidently, it’s not as heavy as the flywheels of most indoor cycling bikes, so when a low-level tension setting is selected, the bike offers light resistance. But on the other hand, the flywheel is perimeter-weighted so it provides a bit of extra inertia.

The bike’s flywheel is bi-directional. Therefore, you can pedal in reverse if you want. However, coasting is not possible on it.

The bike features a durable crankset and a large internal pulley. However, since it is an upright bike, it is intended only for seated workouts. Standing on the pedals is not recommended, as it may lead to damage to the internal components or the pedals.

The included pedals are made of ABS material with a metallic center. They have weight elements that enable them to always turn face-up if you remove your feet from them. They are also equipped with adjustable straps so you can perfectly stabilize your feet on them.

The Sunny Health & Fitness SF-B2883 exercise bike is equipped with a motorized magnetic resistance system. This means the bike needs to be connected to a power outlet. The resistance can only be adjusted from the bike’s control unit. Also, depending on the program in use, the bike can auto-adjust the resistance.

The bike’s main resistance elements are a magnetic brake and a servo motor. When you adjust the resistance, or when the console automatically adjusts the resistance, the servo motor adjusts the position of the brake in relation to the flywheel. This leads to more or less magnetic tension, and ultimately in an increased or decreased pedaling difficulty.

The bike offers 16 levels of resistance. The first few levels deliver a fairly light pedaling difficulty; they’re great for anyone who requires recovery training or has joint problems. Conversely, the top resistance levels provide considerably more pedal tension simulating a hill climb, promoting a higher burn and superior cardio training.

Last but not least, this Sunny exercise bike features a belt transmission system. Therefore, you don’t have to worry about its lubrication. It also delivers a very smooth and quiet pedaling motion.

Console

The bike’s console is similar to the one included with the Sunny Health & Fitness SF-E3875 elliptical trainer. It’s a mid-range console featuring an LCD display with LED backlight. It tracks all the important workout metrics, including time, distance, total distance, speed, RPM, watts, calories, and pulse.

For the pulse reading function, you must hold on to the sensors integrated into the handlebars. The console is not telemetric and cannot read your pulse through a wireless transmitter. Also, speed and distance are shown only in English units (MPH and miles); there is no metric units option.

The bike’s console does not have Bluetooth connectivity and is not compatible with any online fitness apps. However, it has 24 workout programs to keep you motivated. The list includes 1 manual program, 12 preset programs, 1 watt program, 1 BMI program, 5 HRC programs, and 4 custom programs. Plus, there is also a Recovery function that monitors how long it takes your pulse to return to normal parameters at the end of the workout, and based on that, it will give you a fitness rating between F1 (excellent) and F6 (poor).

Along with the custom target heart rate function, the console also gives you the possibility to set a target for time, distance, and calories. When a goal for any of these metrics is selected, the display will show the remaining value until it reaches zero.

Last but not least, the console does not have an integrated sound system or a workout fan but does integrate a tablet holder. Also, its top section features a grid with the heart rate zones that you should aim for depending on your age, in order to benefit from a better aerobic output, fat burn, etc.

Assembly and Maintenance

The main body of this Sunny exercise bike comes pre-assembled. You only have to add the two base bars, the console mast, the console, the seat post, the saddle, and the pedals. This shouldn’t take more than one hour. All the necessary tools for assembly are included. Also, the manual provides very clear assembly instructions.

The bike’s maintenance doesn’t require much. All you have to do is remove the dust if it’s the case, keep liquids away from the console, and check for loose bolts and parts before each workout.
