There are several elliptical trainers under the brand name “Stamina”, but the highest rated, and the ones with the best price / quality ratio are the “InMotion” models. The one that we’re going to cover here is the Compact Strider with the model number 55-1621, also known as the Stamina InMotion E3000. It’s the model that comes with elastic cords, in order to supply workouts for the arms and upper body.

Frame construction

The Stamina InMotion Compact Strider is built on a steel frame. Its rear base bar and the front plate on which the rollers of the lateral arms glide, are also made of steel. The base bar features small rubberized feet, while the front, metallic plate also features foam padding underneath, in order to provide maximum stability to the machine.

The casing of the flywheel is made of durable plastic material, and features a top handle, in order to provide excellent portability. Fully assembled, this Stamina InMotion model is far from being large, featuring a 24″L x 18″W (61 x 46 cm) footprint, which enables it to fit perfectly under a desk. It’s also pretty light. At 24 lbs (10.8 kg), just about anyone should be able to lift it and transport it with ease.

Drive and resistance

This Stamina InMotion elliptical model features a friction resistance system, involving a felt resistance pad connected to the tension knob via a cable. By tightening the resistance knob, the felt-pad will come in contact with the flywheel, generating resistance. There are no stamina e3000 - pedal closeupresistance levels specified on the knob. You basically have to tighten it until you find the resistance you desire.

The machine’s flywheel weighs approx. 8.8 lbs (4 kg), being also balanced, which means it supplies a consistent momentum, steadiness during the pedaling motion, and overall, a smooth feel. The transmission is belt-powered, using a heavy-duty belt, resistant to stretching. And considering that it’s a belt drive system, it doesn’t require lubrication, while the pedaling motion is almost silent.

Needless to say, the axle and the cranks of the machine are made of steel, as well as the lateral arm bars. The footplates on the other hand are made of hard polyurethane. They stand above floor level at a height of approx. 7″ (18 cm). They’re long and wide enough to accommodate feet of all sized, and feature a ribbed design for more adherence. The metallic arms on which the footplates are attached, are finished with solid silicone rollers, made to last for multiple years of use.

The machine is rated for 250 lbs (113 kg) of user weight. In other words, as long as your weight doesn’t exceed this limit, you should be able to workout standing up on the machine. Heavier users can also use this elliptical, as long as they remain seated.

One of the important aspects that requires mentioning here, regards the connections of the mobile parts within this machine. They all integrate heavy-duty, sealed bearings, designed for a prolonged life cycle.

In case you’re wondering, you can pedal in reverse on this machine. And regardless the way you choose to pedal, the machine’s meter will continue to count the stats for your current workout.

One last aspect to be mentioned here regards the strength cords, which complete the machine. These cords considerably broaden the workout possibilities for this machine. For example, you can pull them all the way up for a more consistent workout for the arms, or simply add a bit of resistance to the overall, natural movement of the arms during your stride. The cords attach to the rear stabilizer bar of the elliptical. They’re made of natural rubber latex, and they’re finished with adjustable straps, and rubber foam grips.

Fitness meter and other accessories

The meter unit supplied with this strider is the same as for the Stamina InMotion E-1000.fitness meter - stamina inmotion e3000 It’s a basic unit, but it can track distance, number of strides, calories and time. Like most meters of this sort, it features a SCAN function which rotates the mentioned values indicating rach one for six seconds, then moving to the next. However, you can choose to track only one of the values if you want.

The meter features only one button which covers all its functions. It serves as a navigation key through the values, ON/OFF button, and reset button. It uses a LR44 (1.5 v) battery which is included.

Along with the meter, another accessory that you will receive with this strider is a workout DVD, featuring several workouts that you should undertake, in order to obtain the best results.

Assembly and Maintenance

The assembly of this fitness machine shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes. Tools for assemble and user’s manual with assembly instructions are supplied. The whole mechanism of the machine comes fully assembled and enclosed by the plastic covers, along with the meter and the lateral arm bars. You basically have to attach its rear stabilizer bar, the front gliding plate, the footrests and the resistance cords.

There’s no specific maintenace required for this machine. However, if its joints begin to squeak, re-tightening the screws or lubrication may be required.

Just got a In Motion 3000 and it is great. My legs have become quite weak due to illness. I REALLY like I can use it sitting down but advance to standing up. Great machine.
