The Soozier A90-254 is one of the indoor cycling bikes released in 2021. It offers a similar range of features to the Soozier A90-255 that we’ve already covered here. However, it has a different frame design, a saddle with extra cushioning, and a fitness monitor with an integrated device holder.

Frame construction

The Soozier A90-254 indoor cycling bike features a triangular frame but its main tube and the front fork are slightly curved for improved sturdiness and aesthetics. The bike combines oval, cylindrical, and rectangular tubes in its construction. The main frame is double-coated with a gray paint finish. The only exceptions are the seat post and the handlebar post which are painted black, while the flywheel is chrome-plated.

The bike also integrates several plastic parts. The most notable ones are the drivetrain cover, the brake cover, the side covers of the flywheel, and several other small covers. These are all made from various durable thermoplastic materials. They’re mostly black, to fit the color theme of the bike.

The Soozier A90-254 is slightly larger than other similar models. It is approx. 48.75″ (124 cm) long, and 20.5″ (52 cm) wide. It is also recommended to allow at least two feet of clearance all around it, for easy access and correct usage.

The bike’s net weight is approx. 80 lbs (36.2 kg). This being said, the packaged unit may require two persons. However, once the bike is assembled, it can easily be relocated by only one person. That’s because its front base features two small transport wheels. Also, both base stabilizers feature adjustable levelers.

Seat and handlebars

The Soozier A90-254 includes a saddle designed for superior comfort. To begin with, it is approx. 10.75″ (27.3 cm) long, and 7.75″ (19.6 cm) wide, so it provides plenty of contact surface. It integrates a generous layer of cushioning while its top cover is made of a durable vinyl material. It also has a large cutout in the middle for improved breathability.

The saddle features a set of two suspension springs at the rear. These add extra flex allowing it to adapt to your movement during seated workouts. Also, the seat’s connection system is collar-based; therefore, if you will ever want to replace it, compatible options are widely available.

The bike’s seat is four-way adjustable (up, down, front, back). Its upright post has several adjustment positions while its horizontal slider adds a few extra inches of adjustment. The seat height range is 33″ – 39″ (84 – 99 cm). Thus, the bike should be able to accommodate users between 5’1″ and 6’2″ (155 – 188 cm).

The A90-254 bike is rated for a maximum user weight limit of 396 lbs (179 kg). This might be a bit of a stretch as most spin bikes in this price and feature range usually have a max. user weight limit between 250-300 lbs (113 – 136 kg). Thus, we don’t recommend it for users heavier than 250 lbs (113 kg).

The bike is equipped with a multi-grip handlebar. It offers the possibility to adopt an off-road grip, a standard grip, a climbing grip, and a close grip. It also includes a set of elbow rests for extra comfort during an aero grip.

The handlebar is only two-way adjustable and offers an adjustment span between 43″ – 45.25″ (109 – 115 cm). It is covered by a layer of rubber foam material for an improved grip. It also integrates a set of metallic pulse sensors.

Resistance system

The Soozier A90-254 exercise bike is equipped with a friction resistance system. It is not motorized, the resistance can only be adjusted manually, so you don’t need a power adapter or an external power source for it.

The resistance system consists of a felt pad brake connected to the tension knob that goes through the main frame tube. The brake pad is situated above the flywheel and concealed by a large cover. The mechanism is pretty simple. You turn the knob to the right and the brake pad applies more drag to the flywheel, or you can turn the knob to the left to reduce the drag.

The tension knob does not have any pre-set levels (or clicks). You simply tighten the pad on the flywheel until the bike delivers the desired difficulty. You can basically tighten the pad on the flywheel up to the point you can barely pedal.

The tension knob also has an emergency brake function. You can press it down to immediately stop the flywheel from spinning. Also, since the brake does not use magnets, the felt pad will wear over time and may require replacement.

Drive system

The Soozier A90-254 indoor cycling trainer features a belt drive system. It is equipped with a poly-v belt resistant to abrasion and stretching. As opposed to a chain drive, it does not require periodic lubrication and you don’t have to worry about it catching rust or about locked links. It also delivers slightly less vibration than a chain.

The bike is equipped with a 33 lbs (15 kg) flywheel, 15.7 (~40 cm) in diameter. As we’ve mentioned above, it is chrome-plated with side covers made from ABS plastic. It is perimeter-weighted in order to provide a consistent momentum. It is also bi-directional, so you can pedal in reverse if you want. However, you cannot coast on this bike as it would be possible on a road bike. If you stop pedaling, the flywheel will also stop from spinning.

The crankset features durable rectangular arms made of steel, similar to the ones on mountain bikes. They have a black paint finish and are fairly long, so the bike provides an ample pedaling motion.

The pedals are made of aluminum alloy. They don’t have SPD clips for spin shoes but do have adjustable toe cages. Therefore, you can perfectly secure your feet on them when pedaling. They’re also pretty durable and should support any type of spin workout. Plus, their threads are standard (9/16″) so in case you will ever want to replace them, you should be able to find a compatible set in just about any bike shop.

Fitness monitor

The fitness monitor included with the Soozier A90-254 bike is a pretty basic unit. It features an LED display that tracks time, speed, distance, total distance, calories, and pulse. The pulse reading function is grip contact only. This means that the unit can only read your pulse if you hold on to the integrated sensors. It cannot read your pulse from a wireless HR chest strap.

The monitor unit is very easy to use. It only has one (Mode) button. By pressing the button repeatedly, you can scroll through the workout metrics and select the one you want to view. This way, you can also select its Scan Mode which rotates all the metrics showing each one for a few seconds. The data on the unit can be cleared by pressing and holding the button for a few seconds.

The monitor unit is battery-powered. It requires two AA batteries. It starts up when you begin pedaling or when you press the button, and turns off automatically if it does not detect any input on the bike for more than four minutes. It also has a small shelf at the base which you can use as a device holder for your phone or tablet, but the monitor unit itself cannot interact with your device; it does not have Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connectivity.

Assembly and Maintenance

The bike’s frame comes partially assembled. The flywheel, the crankset, the drivetrain, and the brake are already installed. You only need to attach the two base bars, the pedals, the seat, the handlebars, and the fitness monitor. This shouldn’t take more than an hour. The manual provides step-by-step assembly instructions and a basic toolkit is also included.

For maintenance, you only have to keep the bike clean and wipe the sweat that may fall on the frame at the end of the workout. The brake pad may require a few drops of silicone lubricant from time to time so that the flywheel can spin smoothly. It is also recommended to periodically inspect the bike to make sure that all the moving parts still function correctly and all the bolts still hold tight in their places.
