Frame constructions and accessories
The pooboo X630 exercise bike features an X-type frame with a folding design. It consists of two main pieces connected in the middle. The larger piece consists of two parallel bars; it holds the handlebar, and the fitness monitor, while the twister board attaches to its lower base. The smaller piece serves as a tube for the seat at the top, while its lower part holds the bike’s drive and resistance system.
Needless to say, the bike’s frame is made of steel tubing. Most of the frame is coated with a durable, rust-resistant paint finish black in color. The only exception is the rear base bar which is yellow. The casing of the drive and resistance elements consists of ABS guards, also yellow.
The fully assembled unit has a slightly larger footprint than other similar bikes due to the twister board. It is approx. 48.6″ (123 cm) long, and 20.7″ (53 cm) wide. Its highest point is given by the front handlebars which reach approx. 45.3″ (115 cm) above the floor level.
The bike is fairly light. Its net weight is approx. 42 lbs (19 kg). Therefore, it can easily be moved by only one person even when it is in its box. When assembled and folded, it can easily be moved via the small wheels integrated into the front base bar.
The most notable accessories included with the pooboo bike X630 are the twister board and the two resistance bands. They both attach to the rear base of the bike. The twister board features a metallic base frame itself with an anti-slip surface. It’s great to have if you want to perform body twists or other similar exercises. The resistance bands feature standard D-handles with foam grips. You can use them for bicep curls or other exercises while seated on the bike, or for improved stability when using the twister board.
Seat and handlebars
The pooboo X630 exercise bike features a smaller seat than other similar bikes, such as the Exerpeutic 575 XLS, for example. The saddle itself is approx. 10.6″ (27 cm) wide, and 8.3″ (21 cm) long. Its top consists of a thick high-density foam pad attached to a durable nylon shell. It attaches via three screws to a triangular plate welded directly to the seat post.
The backrest features a durable metallic backbone. Its cushion is a bit wider than the saddle; it is approx. 12.6″ wide and 6.9″ long, designed to provide extra lumbar support. It also has a thick foam cushion for improved comfort.
The seat is two-way adjustable (up, down). It has 5 adjustment positions so the bike should be able to accommodate users between 5’2″ and 6’3″ (157 – 190 cm). It is also rated for a maximum user’s weight limit of 280 lbs (127 kg). It’s important to mention, though, that the backrest does not adjust independently from the seat; it does not have a reclining feature or a separate up/down adjuster. However, it can be folded forward, over the seat.
The bike is equipped with two sets of handlebars. One attaches to the front part of the frame, the other to the seat assembly. The front handlebars feature a 3-grip design. They offer the possibility to adopt a climbing grip, an off-road grip, and a standard, close grip. They are equipped with metallic pulse sensors. The seat handlebars don’t have sensors and have shorter grips. None of the handlebars are adjustable. They both have this PVC foam sleeves for improved comfort.
Resistance system
The pooboo X630 semi-recumbent exercise bike is equipped with a manual magnetic resistance system. Since it’s not motorized, it does not require a power adapter or power cord. But on the other hand, its fitness monitor cannot control the resistance automatically.
The resistance system consists of a magnetic brake that connects to the tension knob on the front section of the frame through a steel cable. Therefore, when you turn the knob clockwise, the magnets move closer to the internal flywheel which increases the pedaling difficulty.
The main advantage of the magnetic resistance system is that the brake pad or the magnets do not touch the internal flywheel. Due to this, the pedaling motion is very smooth and quiet. There is also virtually no wear and tear for the magnets, and you don’t have to worry about brake pad lubrication or replacement.
The bike’s resistance system makes available 8 distinct tension levels. The first level of resistance is fairly light, great for a fitness warm-up, recovery training, or in general, for users with a low level of fitness. Conversely, the 8th tension level delivers distinguishably more resistance simulating a hill climb, great for a more consistent cardio workout.
Drive system
Like most other X-frame exercise bikes, the pooboo X630 is equipped with a belt drive system. It uses a durable poly-v belt resistant to stretching. Therefore, you don’t have to worry about periodic drivetrain lubrication and the pedaling motion is very smooth and almost completely silent.
The bike’s internal flywheel weighs approx. 10 lbs (4.5 kg). Evidently, it’s not a super-heavy flywheel as is the case for most spin bikes. However, it does have a perimeter-weighted design. This leads to a more consistent momentum and a smooth pedaling motion.
The flywheel permits pedaling in reverse. This is quite a plus, as you can alternate forward pedaling sessions with reverse pedaling sessions and focus more muscle groups during each workout. When pedaling in reverse, the resistance remains constant, given by the selected tension level. However, coasting is not possible.
The bike’s crankset is pretty sturdy, equipped with flattened arms similar to the ones in road bikes, but a bit shorter. The pedals are made from a heavy-duty thermoplastic material with a steel axis. They have a textured surface and adjustable straps.
The exact Q-Factor (spacing between the pedals) of this bike is not specified. However, it is approx. 200 mm, so the position of your feet on the pedals is pretty natural, without being too far apart. This reduces the extra lateral stress on the knees and ankles.
Fitness monitor
The poobo0 X630 exercise bike comes with a fitness monitor identical to the JEEKEE recumbent bike. It features an LCD display that tracks time, speed, distance, total distance, calories, and pulse. Speed and distance are shown in MPH and miles. The pulse reading function is grip only. In other words, you have to hold on to the sensors integrated into the front handlebar of the bike for it to track your pulse. You cannot sync it with a wireless HR monitor.
The monitor unit doesn’t have pre-set programs. It also does not have online connectivity and you cannot pair it with any fitness apps. However, it offers the possibility to select goals for your workouts. It has count-down modes for time, distance, and calories burned. Thus, if you select a workout goal, it will count down from the selected value until it reaches zero.
The unit is very easy to use. There are three buttons on it. These are Mode, Set, and Reset. The Mode button allows you to select the workout metric that you want to view. This way, you can also select the unit’s Scan Mode which rotates all the metrics showing each one for six seconds. The Set button covers the goal-setting function. The Reset button clears all the data on the monitor except for the odometer (total distance).
The monitor unit is battery-powered. It requires two AA batteries which are included. It starts up when you begin pedaling, and also automatically turns off if it does not detect any activity on the bike for more than 4 minutes.
Assembly and Maintenance
The bike’s main frame comes pre-assembled with the drive and resistance unit already attached. You only need to add the two base bars, the seat post, the seat, the handlebars, the fitness monitor, the pedals, the twister board, and the resistance bands. This shouldn’t take more than an hour. The task is pretty straightforward, the manual provides clear assembly instructions, and all the necessary tools are included.
For maintenance, you only have to keep the bike clean and wipe the sweat that may fall on the frame at the end of your workout. The internal parts do not require lubrication. It is also recommended to periodically inspect the bike to make sure that all the parts are functioning properly, and all the bolts hold tight in their places.
