Smith cage

The main element of the MiM USA 1001 Pro is the Smith cage. It features a heavy-duty frame made of thick steel tubing. Most of the bars in its construction are coated with a black powder paint finish resistant to corrosion; the only exceptions are the upright guide bars of the Smith element which are chrome plated.

At the top, the cage is equipped with a fixed, multi-grip pull-up bar. This element offers the possibility to perform all forms of pull-up and chin-up exercises. It has a weight capacity of 350 lbs (158.7 kg), so as long as you don’t weigh that much, you can perform weighted pull-ups as well.

The median upright bars of the cage feature 14 locking positions for the Smith bar. The Smith element is equipped with top-grade ball bearings in order to provide a very smooth glide of the bar during squats, presses, and other exercises. The main bar included with the cage is an Olympic 7′ bar, with 2″ sleeves, but a Standard bar is also included. The Smith element of the machine is rated for a weight capacity of 555 lbs (251.7 kg).

The frame of the cage has two reinforcement bars within its top rear section, while the base bars feature anchor points on their ends. However, the cage itself is fairly heavy (without any plates loaded). It weighs approx. 480 lbs (217.7 kg), so it provides excellent stability on its own.

The cage frame is fairly large. It is 60″ (152 cm) deep, and approx. 80″ (203 cm) wide, so it provides plenty of inside space for users of all sizes. Also, its pull-up bar assembly reaches approx. 87″ (221 cm) above floor level in order to provide plenty of leg-room during pull-up exercises.

Last but not least, the rear upright bars of the cage feature four storage pegs (Olympic) which can be loaded with up to 135 lbs (61.2 kg) of plates.

Functional trainer

The MiM USA 1001 Pro Smith cage incorporates a functional trainer. This additional strength training system features two weight carriages, one on each side, and two adjustable pulleys on the front bars of the unit. Each weight plate carriage can be loaded with up to 200 lbs (90.7 kg) of weight plates and has Olympic (2″) sleeves. Also, each plate carriage glides on two upright chrome-plated bars for extra stability.

All the pulleys within the machine’s construction are made of durable nylon material and integrate sealed ball bearings for a smooth operation. The cables are steel-made with PVC sleeves to prevent the scratching of the pulleys. Their exact individual strength is not specified, but they should be able to withstand at least two times the weight each carriage is rated for.

The front adjustable pulleys can pivot on their axis in a 180° range side-to-side. Their upright bars have 32 adjustment positions. The distance between the holes is approx. 1″ (2.5 cm).

Various other attachments can be applied to the front bars of the MiM USA 1001 Pro functional trainer. For example, the system includes two J-hooks and two safety bars which you can use for free squats or chest presses if you don’t want to use the Smith element. Also, a set of dip bars is included. The J-hooks and safety bars are rated just as the Smith element for 555 lbs (251.7 kg). The weight capacity of the dip bars is not specified.

Bench and other accessories

The bench included with the MiM USA 1001 Pro Smith cage and functional trainer is the CB 777S Pro model. It’s a heavy-duty commercial-grade multi-position bench designed for superior stability. It is rated for a user weight capacity of 350 lbs (158.7 kg), and has a weight tolerance up to 800 lbs (362.8 kg).

The bench offers excellent adjustability. To begin with, its seat offers 4 adjustment positions for 0°, 5°, 9°, and 14°. The backrest offers 8 incline positions for 10°, 19°, 28°, 36°, 46°, 56°, 68°, and 81°. The 0° position is also available along with a decline setting for -13°.

Needless to say, the bench frame is made of steel tubing, combining ovalized and rectangular bars for improved functionality and aesthetics. It has 2.7″ of foam cushioning for superior comfort. Also, in terms of dimensions, its headrest section is approx. 11.5″L x 9.3″W (29 x 23 cm), its backrest is 27.5″L x 13″W (70 x 33.4 cm), while its sitting section is 14″L x 12.5″W (36 x 32 cm).

The fully assembled bench is fairly heavy. It weighs approx. 84.8 lbs (38.4 kg). However, once it is assembled, it’s fairly easy to carry. Its rear base features a set of transport wheels while its front bar is equipped with a lifting handle. It’s important to mention here that the bench does not include a preacher pad or a leg developer attachment.

The MiM USA 1001 Pro SM+FT strength training system comes with a plethora of accessories. We’ve already mentioned the J-hooks, the safety bars, and the dip handles. The list also includes a curl bar, a Standard barbell, straight bar, D-handles, knurling bar, short bar, V-handle, tricep rope, rotating bar, and an ankle cuff. Weight plates are not included.

Assembly and Maintenance

This strength training system requires full assembly. This will definitely take more than a few hours due to the many parts. It’s also recommended to be done by two people. However, the manual does provide clear assembly instructions.

For maintenance, periodic lubrication for the Smith gliding bars, functional trainer weight carriage guide bars, and pulley adjustment bars is recommended. The pulleys themselves shouldn’t require any lubrication for a long time if you apply lubricant on them during assembly. Other than this, you should periodically inspect the machine for any loose or broken parts, in order to replace them or re-tighten them before any accidents can happen.
