In terms of specs, it can be compared to the Sunny Health & Fitness SF-T4400 or the Weslo Crosswalk 5.2T. However, it does not have any type of incline, nor it has any crosswalk handles as the Weslo model.

Frame and deck construction

The Marcy JX-650W treadmill is built around a steel frame, featuring a corrosion-resistant powder coating, metallic gray in color. The fully assembled machine is not extremely heavy but does weigh approx. 127 lbs (57.6 kg). This weight adds enough stability to the running platform. Its relocation isn’t too difficult, though, as the front and rear bases integrate transport wheels. The front metallic base also features four rubberized stabilizers.

The machine’s frame has a folding design. The deck can be folded up and locked in upright position via a telescopic arm, which can be tightened in extended position by a turn knob.

Overall, the treadmill is not an extremely large one but does take 63″L x 28.5″W (160 x 72 cm) of floor space when fully setup. However, with the deck folded up, is length is reduced by more than half, resulting in better storage possibilities. For its usage, it is recommended to leave at least one foot of clearance on each side, and at least two feet of clearance at the rear for maximum safety. So, in conclusion here, the machine would require a usage area of at least 90″ x 55″ (228 x 140 cm).

The Marcy JX-650W treadmill features a fairly sturdy deck construction, designed to support users up to 245 lbs (111 kg). It’s equipped with a heavy-duty belt, which provides a running surface of 47.2″L x 16.5″W (120 x 42 cm). It’s not an extremely long platform, and users taller than 6’0″ (183 cm) may feel their stride restricted during running workouts. However, for walking and light jogging it should provide enough space.

Although it’s a basic treadmill, its deck does integrate cushioning elements. It’s equipped with two shock absorption cells, one on each side, situated at the middle of the deck. Due to these elements, a jog or walk on it results in less impact, feeling much gentler on your joints than the same type of workout on concrete or asphalt.

One last aspect to mention here regards the deck’s step-up height. When unfolded and in the usage position, the deck’s running surface stands approx. 8″ (20 cm) above floor level. This being said, it’s recommended to place and use the machine in a room with a ceiling taller than your own height by at least 15″ (38 cm), in order to avoid any issues.

Motor

The Marcy treadmill JX-650W is equipped with an entry-level motor, featuring a continuous power output of 1 HP and a peak power of 2 HP. It’s not a high-performance motor as the one equipped on the Nautilus T618 for example, but it is powerful enough to sustain long walking or jogging workouts.

The motor offers a speed range between 0.5 and 8.0 MPH. Although the starting speed of the running belt is 0.5 MPH, the speed can be adjusted in increments of 0.1 MPH. This is quite a plus, as it allows you to find the perfect pace depending on your height and workout.

The console features keys for gradual and quick speed adjustment. Also, if you choose to exercise by using one of the onboard programs, the machine will auto-adjust the speed of the running belt, depending on the segment of the workout.

Last but not least, since it’s a basic motor, its power consumption is also minimal. In other words, even if you will be using it daily, it shouldn’t add more than a few dollars to the electricity bill.

Console

The Marcy JX-650W treadmill is equipped with a rather basic console. But nonetheless, it features a 5″, LED backlit monitor which can track time, speed, distance, and calories burned. The display features 5 panels so it shows all the workout metrics at once; you don’t have to use a scan function to rotate them.

The console unit features 10 preset programs which cover different workouts, from “walk in the park”, to climb and intervals. Evidently, when using one of the onboard programs the machine will self-adjust the speed of the walking belt. However, you can adjust the speed manually during any workout. The console also offers the possibility to setup goals for time, distance and calories.

The unit is very easy to use. It features controls for gradual speed adjustment (- / +) but also has keys for quick speed selection, for 2,3,4,5,6,7,8 MPH. The Start / Stop keys offer the possibility to pause and resume your workout, without losing any of the progress throughout a selects program or towards a setup goal. This is a great feature to have especially if you want to alternate treadmill workouts with other types of workouts. The programs have their own (PRO) key, while the MODE key covers the goal selection function. Evidently, the unit features the magnetic safety key which automatically shuts down the machine when removed.

Unfortunately, the console unit cannot monitor your heart rate. Therefore, in case you need to keep an eye on your pulse, you will have to use a separate heart monitoring device.

Finally, the console’s dashboard integrates two accessory trays. However, since it’s a basic console, it doesn’t have a tablet holder, nor it has built-in speakers or cooling fan.

Assembly and Maintenance

This Marcy treadmill is very easy to assemble. The deck with the motor come ready-assembled and pre-lubricated from the factory. Therefore, the assembly of the machine basically requires you to add the console masts and the console. This shouldn’t take longer than 30 min. The manual offers excellent assembly instructions, while the tools required for it are included.

Maintenance requires keeping the belt clean in order to prevent any textile fibers or small objects to be dragged into the motor. It also requires periodic lubrication, like most treadmills.
