The L-NOW pooboo D519 is one of the indoor cycling bikes released in 2019, but a newer model was released in 2020. This post addresses the 2020 model. The bike is similar in features to the pooboo D525, but has a different frame design. Although it’s a bike designed for home use, it’s definitely built to withstand any spin workout.

Frame and accessories

The pooboo bike D519 features an all-steel frame with a triangular construction. Most of the frame tubes are ovalized for a more aesthetic aspect. The paint finish is chip-resistant and corrosion-resistant, the main color being white, with the pooboo logo painted gray. The seat and handlebar posts also have a gray paint finish.

As opposed to the L-NOW pooboo 525 that we’ve mentioned above, this exercise bike has its seat tube directly welded to the main oblique tube. This results in superior sturdiness. Also, the connection between the seat tube and the main oblique tube is reinforced by a short, horizontal tube. This particular element can be used for stretching or as a step-up/step-down point for certain spin workouts. Not all bikes have this feature, so we can say that it’s a plus.

The L-NOW D519 is a pretty sturdy bike. It supports users up to 270 lbs (122 kg). It’s also fairly heavy. Its gross weight is 85 lbs (38.5 kg), so while packaged, it may require two persons or a box trolley. However, once it is assembled, it can easily be moved by only one person as its front base has transport wheels.

Although the bike is fairly light, it offers excellent stability. Both its base bars are equipped with adjustable stabilizers. Therefore, you can perfectly level it on any type of floor.

Last but not least, the fully assembled bike is not extremely large compared to other fitness machines. It is approx. 43.9″ (112 cm) long, and 21.7″ (55 cm) wide, while its highest point is given by the top of its handlebar which reaches approx. 48″ (122 cm) above floor level.

In terms of accessories included with this exercise bike, we can mention an exercise meter, a tablet holder, and a bottle holder. The tablet holder attaches to the small loop aero bar at the center of the handlebar assembly. It is fairly large and should accommodate any type of tablet or smartphone. The bottle holder attaches to the lower section of the main frame bar. It’s made of a flexible material so it can accommodate most water bottles. The exercise meter is a fairly basic unit. We’ll cover all of its features and functions in one of the sections below.

Seat and handlebars

The L-NOW pooboo D519 is equipped with a standard seat. The saddle is a bit wider than the usual slim spin seats. It does not have air-cell cushioning or suspension springs but does integrate a layer of foam padding. Therefore, it provides optimal comfort.

The saddle features a standard connection system, featuring a metallic collar which you can tighten on the post via a long bolt. This being said, in case you want to replace it, compatible options are widely available.

The seat is 4-way adjustable. Its horizontal slider offers several inches of front-to-back adjustment, while the upright post has several adjustment positions as well. This being said, the bike can accommodate users between 5’0″ and 6’3″ (153 – 190 cm) with no problem.

The bike’s handlebar can be compared to the one on the PYHIGH S2 bike. It features two long and curved upward side grips and a small, loop aero bar at the center. The side grips are covered by a layer of rubber foam material in order to provide a secure grip. They also integrate pulse sensors.

As we’ve mentioned above, the tablet holder is attached to the center loop bar. However, if you want to benefit from a “wheel” grip, you can remove the tablet holder.

Resistance and drive

The pooboo D519 bike features a mechanical, friction-based resistance system. It consists of a felt pad placed above the flywheel and connected to the tension knob on top of the main frame tube. By turning the knob clockwise, this brake pad applies more friction to the flywheel which leads to an increased pedaling difficulty.

Since the bike’s resistance system is manual, the unit does not require an external power source. Also, the console (or exercise meter) does not play any role in the bike’s resistance adjustment. The tension knob does not have any “clicks” or pre-determined resistance levels on it. You simply tighten it until you get the desired pedaling difficulty.

The tension knob also acts as an emergency brake. You can press it down to immediately stop the flywheel from spinning. This may be necessary especially if you have been pedaling at a high speed because the pedals continue to spin for as long as the flywheel is spinning.

This pooboo bike is equipped with a 35 lbs (15.8 kg) flywheel. Although it’s lighter than for other spin bikes, such as the Spinner Johnny G which has a 40 lbs flywheel, it is still a perimeter-weighted flywheel. Therefore, it can generate a pretty decent momentum, great for spin workouts.

The bike’s drivetrain uses a poly-v belt. This being said, the pedaling motion is very smooth and quiet. You don’t need to lubricate it as for a bike with a chain drive. It also gives you the possibility to pedal in reverse, so you can put some diversity into your training. However, it does not allow coasting.

Last but not least, the bike is equipped with a solid crankset featuring steel crank arms and pedals. The pedals do not have SPD clips, but do have toe cages. Both the pedals and the crank arms can support loads up to 270 lbs (122 kg). Therefore, as long as you do not exceed this weight, you should be able to pedal while standing up without any concerns.

Fitness meter

The L-NOW D519 includes a basic fitness meter. It features an LCD display that tracks time, distance, speed, calories, and pulse. It also has an odometer function and a pulse reading function. However, in order for it to monitor your pulse, you have to hold on to the sensors integrated into the side grips of the handlebar. The unit is not telemetric and cannot read your pulse through a wireless transmitter.

The exercise meter unit is very easy to operate. It only has one button which allows you to select any of the aforementioned workout metrics, or select the Scan Mode. If the Scan function is selected, the meter will rotate all the metrics showing each one on the display for a few seconds. Also, the button covers the unit’s Reset function. By pressing it continuously for several seconds, all the values on it will be cleared to zero.

The meter unit requires two AAA batteries. It also has a sleep mode which initiates after a few minutes of inactivity on the bike. It starts up once more when you begin pedaling or when you press the button.

Assembly and Maintenance

The main body of the bike comes pre-assembled. In other words, the flywheel, the braking system, the crankset, and the belt are already attached to the main frame. You only need to add the two base bars, the seat post, the saddle, the handlebar post, the handlebar, the pedals, and the console. This shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes. A basic toolkit is for assembly is included. Also, the manual provides pretty clear assembly instructions.

The bike’s maintenance doesn’t require much. The drive elements do not require any lubrication. All you need to do is keep the bike clean and periodically check for loose parts.
