Frame and accessories
As we’ve mentioned above, the JOROTO X5 is an indoor cycling bike designed to support any spin workout. It features a heavy-duty steel frame which can hold users up to 330 lbs (150 kg). The frame has an X-shaped structure that combines ovalized with rectangular tubes for improved aesthetics.
The bike’s frame is powder coated with a corrosion-resistant paint finish. The color used is silver with the “JOROTO” logo painted black. The seat and handlebar posts and sliders are chrome-plated, though. Of course, there are several ABS parts in the bike’s construction as well. The belt cover, the resistance pad cover and several other small covers are made of durable ABS material.
The fully assembled bike is fairly heavy. It weighs approx. 132.3 lbs (60 kg) which is more than twice the weight of the average mountain bike. All this weight is reflected in the unit’s overall stability. You can be sure that it won’t rock even if you engage in the most demanding spin workouts. Plus, the bike has a pretty low center of gravity while its bases are equipped with levelers that feature large rubber pads.
Despite its weight, the JOROTO X5 is fairly easy to transport once it is fully assembled. Its front base features two large silicone wheels which facilitate its relocation. By using these wheels to move the unit, you won’t be handling more than half of its total weight.
Compared to other indoor cycling bikes, such as the PYHIGH S2 for example, the JOROTO X5 is slightly larger, especially lengthwise. However, it still isn’t an extremely large fitness machine. It is approx. 53.5″ (136 cm) long, and 20.5″ (52 cm) wide. This being said, it requires a usage surface of at least 80″ x 50″ (203 x 127 cm).
In terms of accessories, this JOROTO exercise bike includes a tablet holder which attaches to the aero bar integrated into the handlebar. This accessory can accommodate any type of tablet. A bottle holder is not included with the bike, though.
Of course, on the list of accessories for this bike, we can also include the exercise meter. We’ll provide a more detailed description for it in one of the sections below.
Seat and handlebars
The JOROTO X5 is equipped with a high-comfort seat. The saddle integrates considerably more cushioning than the average slim spin seat, especially in its rear section. It has a longitudinal cutout in order to provide superior breathability during seated workouts and a healthier blood circulation. It’s fairly large, offering plenty of contact surface. Also, its top is made of a durable, sweatproof vinyl material.
The rear section of the saddle incorporates two springs similar to the seat of the PYHIGH S7. These elements improve its overall shock absorption, delivering a very comfortable ride.
The bike offers four-way adjustability for the seat. It can be moved up, down, forward and backward. Its upright post offers more than 10 adjustment notches, while its front-to-back slider also provides several inches of adjustment. This being said, the bike can accommodate users between 5’2″ and 6’5″ (157 – 196 cm) with no problem.
The included handlebar features a multi-grip design. Although it doesn’t have the drop-down grips like the BodyCraft SPR, it does offer the possibility to adopt a standard grip, a race grip, an aero grip and more. The unified center aero bar is fairly long, promoting a comfortable aero grip.
The handlebar is fully covered by a layer of high-density foam material. Therefore, it provides a comfortable and secure grip. However, it does not integrate pulse sensors.
Last but not least, the handlebar offers four-way adjustability just as the seat. Both its upright post and its horizontal slider offer several inches of adjustment. Therefore, any user up to 6’5″ (196 cm) should be able to find the perfect setting for the most comfortable ride.
Drive system
The JOROTO X5 is equipped with a heavy-duty crankset featuring solid steel crank arms and durable aluminum alloy pedals. This being said, it should not have any problem supporting users up to 330 lbs (150 kg), in a complete standing up pedaling posture.
The pedals feature a non-slip surface. They are equipped with adjustable toe cages allowing an extra thrust forward during pedaling. They do not have SPD elements for spin shoes. But nonetheless, their threads are 9/16 standard, so compatible pedals for it are widely available.
The bike’s drivetrain uses an industrial-grade poly-v belt which is concealed by an aesthetic ABS cover. There are several advantages with regards to a belt drive. For example, you don’t need to lubricate it, it provides a very quiet ride, and there is less vibration during pedaling than for a bike with a chain drive system.
The JOROTO X5 indoor cycling bike is equipped with a balanced, full-steel, chrome-plated flywheel. It’s an extra-heavy flywheel, weighing 45 lbs (~20.4 kg). This weight is great for spin workouts, high-intensity cardio, and interval workouts. It’s also bi-directional; therefore, you can pedal in reverse if you want. However, coasting is not possible on the bike, as its drive system is simple, without a derailleur system, and the pedals continue to spin for as long as the flywheel is spinning.
Resistance system
This JOROTO exercise bike features a standard friction resistance system with manual action. This means you don’t have to connect the bike to a power source, and the console does not have any role in the resistance adjustment.
The resistance system consists of a large top-to-down felt-based brake pad attached to the tension dial on top of the main tube of the frame. By turning the tension dial clockwise, the brake pad applies more friction to the flywheel which leads to a higher pedaling difficulty.
The tension knob acts as an emergency brake as well. You can press it down to quickly stop the flywheel from spinning. This may actually be necessary because, as we’ve mentioned above, the pedals continue to spin for as long as the flywheel is spinning. So, if you want to begin pedaling in reverse, or you need to suddenly stop during a high-speed spin workout, the emergency brake should be used.
The bike doesn’t offer a pre-determined resistance range. There are no distinct tension levels marked on the knob. You simply tighten it until you get the resistance that you feel comfortable with.
Exercise meter
The JOROTO X5 includes an exercise meter that features a four-window LCD display. This being said, you don’t have to use a Scan Mode to rotate the main workout metrics since they all appear on-screen simultaneously. It tracks time, distance, speed and calories burned. It does not have a pulse reading function, though. Therefore, in case you need to monitor your heart rate throughout your workout, you will have to use a separate device.
The meter unit does offer the possibility to set up goals for time, distance and calories. When a goal is selected, it will display the remaining amount from completing that goal, rather than the elapsed time, current distance traveled, or current calories burned.
The bike’s exercise meter does not have any preset workouts. Also, it doesn’t connect online, nor it is compatible with any online fitness apps. It’s fairly easy to use. It has three buttons, one for entering set-up mode, one for value selection, and one for reset. It’s battery-powered, it starts up when you begin pedaling, and also turns off automatically after a few minutes of inactivity on the bike.
Assembly and Maintenance
Most of the bike comes pre-assembled. The main frame, the flywheel, the crankset, the drivetrain and the resistance elements are already assembled. You only have to add the base stabilizers, the seat, the handlebar, the pedals, and the bike’s computer. This shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes. The manual provides all the necessary instructions for the assembly, and a basic toolkit is also included.
Since the bike’s drive system uses a belt for its transmission, it does not require any lubrication. In fact, the only maintenance that this bike requires is keeping it clean, removing sweat from the frame at the end of your workout, and periodically check for any parts that need replacement or re-tightening.
