The JOROTO MR30 is a mid-range rowing machine, featuring a more inclusive console than several other full-magnetic machines, such as the Efitment RW025. For example, its console offers several preset programs and can also read your pulse. Although it’s a machine designed for home use, it has a pretty decent construction. It’s definitely a unit to consider if you’re looking for a full-body cardio trainer.

Frame & parts

To begin with, the JOROTO MR30 features a frame made of steel, aluminum, and durable ABS parts. The front part of the frame which holds the flywheel is made of steel, as well as the rear stabilizer. The unit’s rail is aluminum made for a smooth seat glide, while the ABS parts are mostly covers, such as the cover of the rear base, or the side shrouds of the flywheel. They have a protective and cosmetic role and don’t affect the machine’s overall sturdiness.

The unit’s steel parts feature a durable, two-layer powder coating which is resistant to corrosion and abrasion, white in color. The aluminum rail, however, has its natural, silver polish.

This rower is not extremely large compared to other models, such as the Concept2 Model D or the Schwinn Crewmaster, for example. It’s only 70.5″ (179 cm) long, and 21″ (53 cm) wide. However, its rail is long enough (approx. 36″) to accommodate users up to 6’2″ – 6’3″ (188 – 190 cm), promoting a complete leg extension.

On the other hand, the rail has a folding mechanism. It can be folded and locked in upright position. Thus, the machine offers better storage possibilities. With the rail folded up, the unit’s length is reduced to 35.5″ (90 cm). Also, its front base features a set of small rubber wheels which facilitate the unit’s relocation.

The fully assembled rower isn’t extremely heavy. It weighs approx. 60 lbs (27 kg). Also, by using the integrated transport wheels when relocating it, you will basically be handling only half of its total weight.

The JOROTO MR30 is equipped with an ergonomic seat which integrates a layer of padding. Its surface is contoured in order to provide a better positioning and adherence. It has a durable faux leather upholstery which delivers some air permeability in order to prevent overheating.

The seat and rail assembly are rated for a weight capacity of 265 lbs (~120 kg). The seat integrates a set of four wheels with heavy-duty ball bearings which deliver a very smooth seat glide. They’re concealed by the seat frame and the rail in order to maximize safety.

When the machine is unfolded and in usage position, the rail is not completely horizontal. It’s set at an angle of approx. 20°. Due to this fact, the recovery motion is faster, and you benefit from a slightly more consistent workout for the legs.

This JOROTO rowing machine is equipped with a set of large footrests. Their base is directly welded to the frame so they don’t pivot as for other models, such as the Sunny Obsidian SF-RW5713. They’re set at an optimal angle of approx. 45° delivering a comfortable positioning for the feet. They feature non-slip surface, rear guards, and adjustable straps in order to provide maximum foot stability during your workouts.

Last but not least, the unit’s pulling handle consists of a simple straight bar with rubber foam grips for maximum comfort. It’s attached to a heavy-duty nylon mesh strap which provides a smooth operation.

Resistance system

The JOROTO MR30 is a magnetic resistance rower. It consists of a small magnetic brake connected through a steel wire to the dial on top of the flywheel casing. The resistance adjustment is done manually by turning the dial, and the unit doesn’t need to be connected to a power source. Also, the console doesn’t play any role in the unit’s resistance adjustment.

The machine’s resistance system is exclusively magnetic, though. It doesn’t integrate a fan or any air resistance elements. This being said, it doesn’t generate a dynamic response during rowing, so the resistance does not vary with how hard or fast you pull. It’s strictly determined by the selected tension level. However, it still offers the possibility to perform a very consistent, full-body cardio workout.

The resistance system offers 8 distinctive tension settings, which are marked on the resistance dial. The first 1-3 settings are great for light workouts, while the 7-8 settings promote high-burn workouts.

Since the unit doesn’t have any air resistance elements, its operation generates almost no noise. This makes the machine suitable for apartment use. The integrated flywheel weighs 11 lbs (5 kg). It’s not extremely heavy, but this weight is just enough to deliver a consistent momentum for rowing. It is also perimeter weighted, which results in very smooth and steady motion.

The rower’s transmission is made available by a heavy-duty belt. Therefore, it doesn’t require any lubrication. In fact, none of the internal elements should require any maintenance for a long period of time, if the rower is used accordingly.

Console

The JOROTO MR30 is equipped with a console that offers quite a few extra features than the average basic unit. To begin with, it has a multi-panel LCD display which shows all the workout metrics at once, so you don’t have to use a SCAN function to alternate between them. It also has a blue LED backlight which provides a superior readability.

The console covers all the important workout metrics, including time, time/500m, distance (in m), strokes per minute (SPM), total strokes, calories burned and pulse. It can read your pulse via an HR chest strap transmitter; this accessory is not included, though.

There are 16 workout programs available on the console. The 1-5 programs promote light workouts for smooth and quick cardio training. The 6-11 workouts increase the level of fitness and training, while the 12-16 programs promote backwash rowing and explosive training for a high-burn.

The unit also has a Recovery function which has its own button. This function measures your heart rate at the end of your workout in order to provide a recovery status between F1 (best) – F6 (worst), which serves the purpose of helping you make an idea about your level of fitness. Evidently, in order to run it, you will need a pulse reading strap.

Assembly and Maintenance

This rowing machine comes partially assembled. The drive system and the console are already attached to the front part of the frame. Therefore, you only need to attach the front base stabilizer, the rail, the seat, and the rear stabilizer. This shouldn’t take more than 30 min. According to several users, the manual isn’t exactly the best, but the assembly is pretty much a straightforward task.

Since it’s a magnetic rowing machine, its internal parts don’t require any lubrication. They’re pre-lubricated from the factory. So, in terms of maintenance, you only need to periodically check for loose bolts, and make sure you keep the sliding rail clean.
