Frame construction
The Goplus SP37312 indoor cycling bike features a triangular frame made of rectangular steel tubing. It’s also important to mention here that the seat tube goes all the way down to the longitudinal base tube and it’s welded to it, This considerably improves the overall sturdiness of the frame. Plus, the frame has a step-up bar (the short horizontal tube above the crank, welded to the seat tube and the main oblique tube), which also strengthens the frame.
The bike integrates several plastic parts as well. The most notable ones are the belt guard, the side covers of the flywheel, and several other covers. These are made from a tough thermoplastic material. All the steel frame bars are coated with a red paint finish, highly resistant to corrosion and abrasion. The only exceptions are the flywheel, the seat post, and the handlebar post, which are chrome-plated.
The bike has a fairly small footprint. It is approx. 39″ (99 cm) long, and 20″ (51 cm) wide. However, it is recommended to allow at least two feet of clearance all around it, for easy access. In other words, the recommended usage area for this bike is 90″L x 70″W (229 x 178 cm).
The bike is not too heavy. Its net weight is approx. 80 lbs (36.2 kg). This being said, the transport of the packaged unit may require two persons. However, once the bike is assembled, it can easily be moved by only one person as its front base is equipped with transport wheels.
Seat and handlebar
The Goplus SP37312 indoor cycle is equipped with an ergonomic saddle. It measures 10″ (25.4 cm) in length, and 6″ (15.2 cm) in width. It integrates a thick layer of foam padding and has a cover made of durable vinyl material. It also has a median cutout for improved breathability.
The saddle does not have rear suspension springs, like the one included with the FBSport bike. However, it delivers optimal comfort. It also has a standard, collar-type attachment system, so compatible options are widely available in case you will ever want to replace it.
The bike’s seat is four-way adjustable. Its upright post can be adjusted from 42.5″ to 47″ (108 – 119 cm) and the horizontal slider adds a few inches of front-to-back adjustment. This being said, the bike should be able to accommodate users between 5’3″ and 6’5″ (160 – 196 cm). It is also rated for a maximum user weight limit of 275 lbs (125 kg).
The bike is equipped with a multi-grip handlebar. It offers the possibility to adopt a climbing grip, an off-road grip, a standard grip, and an aero grip. It also has a small loop bar in the middle for a close grip. As opposed to the seat, it is only two-way adjustable (up and down), with the highest point of 43.5″ (111 cm).
The handlebar is fully covered by a layer of rubber foam material for an improved grip. It does not have pulse sensors. However, the bike includes a set of elbow rests which is a plus, as many other spin bikes do not have this feature.
Resistance system
The Goplus SP37312 is equipped with a friction resistance system. It is not motorized, so the resistance adjustments are done manually. This being said, you don’t need an adapter or power cord for the bike, but the fitness monitor does not have programs and cannot adjust the resistance automatically.
Similar to the Phoenix Revolution Cycle Pro II, this exercise bike features a caliper brake with two (felt) pads that hug the top section of the flywheel, rather than just one (top-down) pad. The brake connects to the tension knob of the bike through a steel cable. Thus, when you turn the knob clockwise, the brake pads apply more friction to the flywheel which increases the pedaling difficulty.
Like most other spin bikes with a friction resistance system, the SP37312 does not have pre-determined tension levels. You simply turn the knob until you get a pedaling difficulty that you are comfortable with. But as a general idea, you can tighten the brake up to the point you can barely pedal.
It’s also important to mention here that the brake pads may require lubrication (with some silicone lubricant) so that the flywheel can spin smoothly. Also, they will eventually wear out and will require replacement. And one last aspect to mention here is that the bike’s resistance system also has an emergency brake feature. It has a lever that you can press down to immediately stop the flywheel from spinning.
Drive system
The Goplus SP37312 indoor cycling bike is equipped with a 30 lbs (13.6 kg) flywheel. Although it’s not as heavy as the flywheels of most commercial-grade bikes, it still does provides a pretty consistent momentum. It has a perimeter-weighted structure which is meant for superior inertia and is great for spinning.
The bike’s flywheel permits reverse pedaling. However, it’s important to mention that coasting is not possible on this bike. That’s because the pedals will always spin if the flywheel is spinning. Also, when pedaling in reverse, the resistance will remain the same, given by the amount of friction the two brake pads apply to the flywheel.
The bike is equipped with a belt drive system concealed by a large guard made of thermoplastic material. It uses a stretch-resistant, heavy-duty v-belt, designed to last for many years of use. Since it’s a belt drive, it doesn’t require any lubrication. It also generates slightly less vibration than a chain drive and contributes to the overall smoothness of the ride.
The SP37312 is a bike designed for spin workouts. Thus, it is equipped with a pretty sturdy crankset which should support the user with no problem even if they are pedaling while standing up. The pedals are made of aluminum alloy with toe cages. They do not have SPD clips for spin shoes, but their threads are standard (9/16). Thus, if you will ever want to replace them, you should be able to find compatible models in any bike shop.
Fitness monitor
The Goplus SP37312 exercise bike comes with a basic fitness monitor. It features an LCD display that tracks time, speed, distance, and calories burned. It does not have an RPM function or a pulse reading function. The speed and distance are in imperial units (MPH and miles), and you cannot set them to metric.
The monitor unit does not have pre-set programs or workout target functions. It only has one (MODE) button. By pressing the button repeatedly, you can select the workout metric that you want to view. It also has a Scan Mode which you can select in the same way, by repeatedly pressing the button. In Scan Mode, it automatically rotates all the metrics showing each one for a few seconds.
The button also covers the unit’s reset function. You can press and hold it for a few seconds to clear all the data on it to zero.
The monitor unit is battery-powered. It automatically turns off if there is no activity on the bike for more than a few minutes. To wake it up, you can simply start pedaling or press the button.
Assembly and Maintenance
The bike’s main frame comes pre-assembled. The flywheel, the brake, and the drive system are already attached. Therefore, all you have to do is add the base stabilizers, the pedals, the seat, the handlebars, and the fitness monitor. The manual provides pretty clear assembly instructions with illustrations, and all the required tools are included.
For maintenance, it’s recommended to lubricate the brake pads so that the flywheel can spin smoothly. Other than this, you just have to keep the bike clean and periodically check for loose bolts and parts. The drive system does not require lubrication.
