Frame & deck

As we’ve mentioned above, the Goplus SP35897BK is a machine designed for walking and light jogging workouts, and therefore, it doesn’t have a very large walking platform. It’s also considerably smaller than most running treadmills; with the frame fully extended, it takes 50.7″L x 21.6″W (129 x 55 cm) of floor space, while its deck offers a walking platform of approx. 41.3″L x 15.9″W (105 x 40.5 cm). These being said, the machine is not exactly adequate for tall users. If you’re 6’0″ (183 cm) or taller, you may find the walking platform a bit short or narrow for jogging.

One of the neat features of this Goplus treadmill is the folding design, offering excellent storage possibilities. The front part with the console can fold down, but the whole unit can be stored vertically. The front part can be locked in upright or folded position via a knob at the front, above the base. With the frame folded, the unit’s depth becomes approx. 16″ (41 cm), while its height reaches approx. 50″ (130 cm).

The machine is not extremely heavy. It weighs approx. 77.8 lbs (35.2 kg). Plus, its front base is equipped with a set of double wheels which considerably facilitate its relocation. The rear part of the deck integrates two adjustable levelers with large rubber pads. These give you the possibility to perfectly stabilize the unit on just about any type of floor.

Since it’s a walking treadmill, it doesn’t have the sturdiness of a commercial running machine, such as the True Performance PS300 or the Body-Solid Endurance T100. But still, it can support users up to 220 lbs (100 kg), which is not bad for a small unit.

The machine uses a durable and thick rubber belt which is resistant to stretching and provides an excellent adherence. The rollers’ size is not specified, but they deliver a great traction for the belt.

The treadmill’s inner frame is made of steel tubing, but most of it features durable ABS covers. For this particular model, the color is black, but there’s also a pink and a silver model.

This treadmill does not have an incline system. It’s deck step-up height is approx. 8″ (21 cm); therefore, it’s recommended to use the machine in a room with a ceiling that is at least 10″ higher than your own height.

Motor

The Goplus SP35897BK is a walking/jogging treadmill; therefore it doesn’t have an extremely powerful motor like the ones made for running. Its internal motor has a peak power of 1.5 HP. Although several sources specify that the machine offers a speed range between 0.6 MPH and 7.5 MPH, users have reported that the unit’s maximum speed is 10 km/h which is only 6.2 MPH. It also uses only metric units, so you can’t set up the console to show speed and distance in imperial units.

The speed adjustment increments are 0.1 km/h, which is great because it gives you the possibility to adjust the speed of the belt slowly and gradually until you find the perfect pace for your workout. The unit’s speed can only be adjusted gradually, from the Plus/Minus keys on the console. There are not quick speed controls.

The unit’s motor doesn’t generate too much noise. Also, since it’s not an extremely powerful motor, you don’t have to worry about increased electricity bills even if you use the machine daily.

Console

The Goplus SP35897BK treadmill is equipped with an 11″ LED-based touch display. It indicates time, distance, speed, pulse, and calories burned. As we’ve mentioned above, distance and speed are shown only in metric units (km and km/h); there’s no option for miles or MPH.

The machine’s handlebars do not integrate any pulse sensors, but the console unit can read your pulse via the included wireless HR chest strap. A USB flash drive is included with the strap, and by inserting it into the USB port, the unit can read your pulse and also use an HR-based workout program, adjusting the belt’s speed according to your current heart rate.

The console unit features goal settings for time, distance and calories. You can select a value for each one of these metrics and it will begin to count down from it until it reaches zero. This way, you can monitor your progress better. However, the console is also Bluetooth enabled, so you can sync it with a smartphone or tablet that has the free Goplus app which offers superior progress tracking tools, heart monitoring, and other features.

The console unit has 99 built-in workout programs. If you decide to exercise via one of these programs and not the manual mode, the unit will auto-adjust the speed of the belt as you walk, for the duration of the program.

The machine’s control unit is quite easy to use. To begin with, you can adjust the speed of the belt from the +/- keys, but they also allow you to increase/decrease values when you set up your workout goals. There Start/Stop buttons allow you to put your workout on hold and resume if needed. This is a great feature to have especially if you alternate treadmill walking sessions with other workouts. The Program button gives you access to the program database, while the Mode button allows you to scroll through the workout values when selecting a goal.

In terms of amenities, the machine features a sound system and a tablet holder. The sound system is placed at the bottom of the console. An audio cable is included with the machine and you can connect it to your phone or tablet in order to listen to your music through the incorporated speakers. The sound rendered is not extremely great, but definitely better than the speakers of most smartphones or tablets.

The tablet holder is placed under the unit controls. It’s large enough to support any tablet. However, a larger tablet placed on it will block the access to the controls or the view of some of the workout metrics.

Assembly and Maintenance

This Goplus treadmill comes fully assembled. You only need to unfold its console mast with the console and lock it up with its turn-knob, plug in the machine and you should be ready to exercise.

For maintenance, the belt requires periodic lubrication. A bottle of silicone lubricant is included, though, and the manual will instruct you on how to lubricate the belt. Other than this, it’s recommended to keep the running belt clean to prevent any small objects or textile fibers to be drawn into the motor. Checking for loose bolts and parts periodically is also recommended.
