The S275 is one of the most affordable exercise bikes from Fitness Reality. It’s a light-capacity indoor cycling bike similar to the Sunny Health & Fitness SF-B1203. Even though it does not have a thick steel frame as the Spinner P1, for example, it does support standing up while pedaling, and several other spin workouts.

Frame construction

The Fitness Reality S275 exercise bike features a steel frame made of cylindrical tubing which can support users up to 250 lbs (113 kg). Its design is different from most other indoor cycling trainers; it doesn’t have the classic v-shape. The main tube that sustains the resistance elements has the shape of a semi-circle and hugs the flywheel on its inner side.

All the steel parts in the frame are coated with a corrosion resistant paint. The color used is dark gray for the mainframe, a lighter gray for the seat post, while the flywheel is chrome-plated. Of course, the bike also integrates several ABS plastic parts. The side covers of the flywheel and the chain cover are ABS-made.

The Fitness Reality S275 is not a very large fitness machine. Once it is assembled, it’s approx. 41″ (104 cm) long, and 21″ (53 cm) wide. It is recommended, though, to leave a bit of clearance on each side of the bike, for ease of access. Also, its highest point is given by the handlebars which stand at approx. 47″ (120 cm) above floor level.

The bike isn’t extremely heavy. With the frame fully assembled, it weighs only 64 lbs (29 kg). This being said, transport and assembly can easily be done by one person. Also, once it is assembled, its relocation is facilitated by the small wheels integrated into its front base bar.

The rear base bar is curved to improve stability. It’s also equipped with two polygonal stabilizers which can rotate allowing you to level the unit properly.

Seat and handlebars

The Fitness Reality S275 indoor cycling trainer is equipped with a standard saddle. Its top is made of high-density foam and has a bit of contour in order to provide optimal comfort and adherence. It’s fairly wide compared to other spin seats; it’s approx. 10″ wide (25 cm) and 11″ (28 cm) long, offering plenty of contact surface.

The horizontal slider of the seat features a triangular plate at the top. The saddle attaches to it via three screws. Bike saddles of this type are available in most bike shops. Therefore, in case you want to replace it, there definitely are options.

The seat offers four-way adjustability (up, down, forward, backward). Both its slider and upright post feature large knobs, easy to grip and turn, so you can quickly adjust it to the desired position. The upright post has several adjustment notches, while the horizontal slider also provides several inches of front-back adjustment. This being said, the bike can accommodate users between 5’1″ and 6’0″ (155 – 183 cm).

The handlebar is non-adjustable. It features a multi-grip design. It offers the possibility to adopt a parallel grip, and oblique grip, and a standard grip. It’s fully covered by a layer of rubber foam material in order to provide superior comfort and a secure grip.

Drive and resistance

This Fitness Reality exercise bike is equipped with a 22 lbs (10 kg) flywheel which has a perimeter-weighted design. Due to this fact, it provides superior inertia and a steady pedaling feel. As we’ve mentioned above, it has a chrome plating finish and side ABS covers.

The bike’s drivetrain uses a standard chain. This being said, its transmission can last a lifetime with proper care. Also, in case you will ever need to replace the bike’s chain, you can basically find a compatible one in any bike shop.

The flywheel and standard drive system permit reverse pedaling. Therefore, you can diversify your workouts by alternating normal with reverse pedaling sessions. It is recommended, though, to use the bike’s emergency brake to stop the flywheel from spinning, whenever you change the way you pedal.

The bike is equipped with heavy-duty nylon pedals which include toe cages and straps for extra foot stability. They have standard 9/16 threads so you can replace them with metallic pedals or SPD pedals for spinning if you want. The bike’s crankset is durable enough to support standing up while pedaling. However, this is not recommended for users who weigh more than 200 lbs (90 kg).

The Fitness Reality S275 indoor cycling trainer features a friction resistance system. It consists of an ABS/felt pad attached to the curved bar of the frame and to the tension knob on this bar. By turning the knob clockwise, the brake pad applies more friction to the flywheel which results in an increased pedaling difficulty. This being said, you can basically adjust the resistance up to the point you can barely pedal.

Exercise meter

This Fitness Reality exercise bike includes a basic fitness meter. It features an LCD display which shows the most important workout metrics, including time, distance, speed, and calories burned. It does not have a pulse reading function, though. Therefore, it cannot communicate with an HR chest strap and does not show the RPM reading. Also, the calorie reading isn’t extremely accurate. The unit doesn’t have personal settings so that you can input your weight end height, so it simply calculates your average calories burned based on the rotations of the flywheel.

The meter unit has only one button. By pressing it repeatedly, you can select one of the workout metrics to be shown on its display, or you can select the Scan Mode which rotates all the metrics, showing each one for 4 seconds. Also, if you press and hold the button for a few seconds, you can clear all the values on it to zero. Evidently, this exercise meter doesn’t have preset programs or online connectivity.

The meter starts up when you begin pedaling, but also has a self-shutdown function. It automatically turns off after four minutes of inactivity on the bike. It requires one AA battery which is included.

Assembly and Maintenance

The bike’s central frame piece with the flywheel, crankset, chain, and resistance elements comes pre-assembled. Therefore, you only need to attach the two base bars, the handlebar post, the handlebar, the seat post, the seat, the meter, and the pedals. This shouldn’t take more than 30-40 minutes. The manual provides all the necessary assembly instructions and a basic toolkit is also included.

For maintenance, it is recommended to periodically lubricate the chain. It’s also recommended to periodically check for loose bolts and parts.
