The T016 is one of the Efitment treadmills released in 2017, but it’s still available at the moment. It’s basically the same treadmill as the Efitment T017 that we’ve already reviewed here but lacks the moving arms. It’s not a motorized treadmill and features a magnetic resistance system similar to most upright exercise bikes.

Frame construction

The Efitment T016 treadmill features a steel frame made of ovalized and cylindrical bars. It’s a light-capacity machine rated for users up to only 220 lbs (100 kg). But on the other hand, it’s pretty light and portable.

All the steel bars in the machine’s construction feature a durable paint finish resistant to chipping and corrosion. The color used is black, with the Efitment logo painted red and white. These are the only colors available for this treadmill.

Of course, the machine integrates several ABS parts as well. The side rail covers and the front roller cover are made of tough plastic material, also black in color, to match the rest of the machine.

The fully assembled machine is not too large. It is approx. 54″ (137 cm) long, and 27″ (68.5 cm) wide. It still is recommended, though to leave at least two feet of clearance all around it, and even more clearance at the rear, for ease of access and safe usage.

The frame features a folding design. The deck can be folded up and locked in a vertical position between the unit’s handlebars. It does not have a hydraulic, soft-drop assist mechanism but the deck is not extremely heavy so it can easily be folded up by only one person. With the deck folded up, the unit’s length is reduced to approx. 1/3.

As we’ve mentioned above, this Efitment treadmill offers excellent portability. Its front base bar is equipped with two small transport wheels which facilitate its relocation.

Deck construction

First of all, it’s important to mention that the Efitment T016 manual magnetic treadmill features an inclined deck. In other words, its deck cannot be adjusted to remain completely horizontal. Its front section will always be higher than the rear section. This can be a plus as this machine will always provide a more consistent workout than one with a horizontal deck.

The unit also has a manual incline system. Its rear base bar has three adjustment positions which can set the walking platform to an incline of either 7%, 8%, or 9%.

The Efitment T016 treadmill is equipped with a rubber belt with a non-slip design. It offers a walking surface of 41.73″L x 13.39″W (106L x 34W cm). This being said, the treadmill should accommodate comfortably users up to 6’1″ (185 cm) as long as they don’t exceed the 220 lbs (100 kg) weight capacity.

In terms of deck height, the front section cannot be adjusted, so it is always at approx. 14″ (35.5 cm) above floor level. This being said, it is recommended to use this treadmill in a room with a ceiling height that is at least 15″ (38 cm) higher than your own height. Conversely, the rear section of the deck is at approx. 3.5″ (9 cm) above floor level. Therefore, stepping up on the walking belt shouldn’t be too difficult. With the incline all the way up, the rear section of the deck gains approx. two extra inches.

The machine’s deck does not integrate cushioning elements. But nonetheless, it does offer a bit of flex. Therefore, it reduces the impact of your cadence which should result in less workout-related joint pain.

Resistance system

As we’ve mentioned above, the Efitment T016 is a manual treadmill. In other words, it does not have a motor and does not require a power source. Also, its computer unit cannot adjust the speed of the belt, nor it has pre-set workout programs.

Since the treadmill is not motorized, this means that the belt is set in motion when you start walking on it. Also, its speed depends on how fast you walk or run on it. It cannot be adjusted automatically.

The treadmill is equipped with a manual magnetic resistance system, similar to the resistance systems of various upright or recumbent bikes. Its front roller incorporates two flywheels and one of them has a magnetic brake attached to it. The brake is also connected to the tension knob on the right upright bar of the machine through a steel cable. So, by turning the knob, the brake moves closer to the flywheel which increases the walking difficulty.

The machine makes available 8 distinct resistance levels. The lowest level basically offers only the resistance generated by the weight of the two flywheels. But as you adjust the knob and increase the resistance, the belt becomes more and more difficult to move, and the difference between the 1st level and the 8th level is quite noticeable.

Performance monitor

The performance monitor included with the Efitment T016 treadmill is also similar to the ones included with many exercise bikes. To begin with, it is equipped with an LCD display (without backlight) that indicates time, distance, odometer, speed, calories, and pulse. The speed and distance metrics are shown in Imperial units (MPH and miles); they cannot be set to metric units. Also, the unit is not telemetric. This means it can only track your pulse if you hold on to the integrated sensors. It cannot read your pulse from a Polar or ANT+ heart rate chest strap.

The performance monitor unit is equipped with three buttons. These are Set, Mode, and Reset. The Set button gives you the possibility to select a goal value for time, distance, and calories. If a goal is selected for any of these workout metrics, the display will indicate the remaining value until you reach your selected goal.

The Mode button allows you to select the desired workout metric that you want to view. By pressing it repeatedly, you can scroll through them manually. However, you can also select the scan mode which rotates all the metrics automatically, showing each one for four seconds.

Of course, the Reset button covers the unit’s reset function. You can press and hold it in order to clear all the values on it to zero.

The treadmill’s performance monitor is battery-powered. It requires 2 AA (1.5V) batteries. It starts up when you press any of the buttons or when it detects belt movement. It also shuts down automatically after 4 minutes of inactivity on the machine to save battery.

Assembly and Maintenance

The machine’s deck with the rollers, belt, and the resistance elements, comes pre-assembled. You only have to attach the two upright bars, the handlebars, the front stabilizer, the exercise meter, and the cover of the front roller. This shouldn’t take more than an hour. The manual provides very clear assembly instructions and all the necessary tools for the task are included.

For maintenance, belt lubrication is required. It is recommended to lubricate it after every 50 hours of use or whenever friction occurs. Other than this, the belt should be kept clean and you should periodically check for loose bolts and parts.
