There’s a lot of positivity surrounding all fitness equipment offered by BodyCraft, simply because just about anything made by them is crowned by superlative quality. They supply several top-rated bikes, but this post is going to focus only on the BodyCraft SPX Club indoor cycling bike.

As the name of the model suggests, it’s a gym-quality spin bike. Among all other indoor bikes of this sort, this model features quite an ergonomic design, very appealing, sturdy and stable. Even though it’s a spin cycle, made for intensive training, it’s one of the most comfortable models of this type that you can find.

Frame

Simply put, the frame of this bike is built like a tank. It’s steel-made, designed for heavy-duty training, and two-phase powder-coated with anti-corrosive paint. It’s extremely sturdy, and offers a lot of stability even for heavy users, up to 300 lbs (136 kg). Although most indoor cycles are not designed for comfort, the BodyCraft SPX actually combines comfort with effectiveness excellently.

Drive system

This training bike is belt-driven, featuring an automotive V-ribbed Hutchingson belt. It’s a belt made to last, with zero maintenance. Since it’s belt-driven, it supplies a very smooth and quiet ride.

The bike features a very solid 3-piece, cold-forged crank, 175 mm long. Needless to say, since it’s a bike built for intensive training, its crank is made to support even the heaviest users in complete standing position exercising routines. Pedals are aluminium-made, featuring toe-straps for a better grip. They don’t include clips for cleat spin shoes, though. However, they’re standard pedals and can be replaced.

The flywheel of the BodyCraft SPX bike is pretty heavy, 46lbs (20.8 kg), also adding to the stability of the bike, and the smoothness of the ride. It has a perimeter-weighted design, for high inertia, incorporating German-made SFK sealed bearings, resulting in a very fluid spin motion.

Brake / Tension system

The brake system of this exercise bike is direct-contact. It includes a single wool-felt pad, which applies tension on top of the flywheel. Evidently, tension is adjustable, but the tension knob does not feature resistance levels or “clicks”. You can adjust resistance while pedaling though, until you reach the desired level. The brake can be tightened up to the point the user cannot pedal anymore. The brake / resistance knob also features an emergency stop.

Seat

Although the seat is marked by the design lines familiar to spin bikes, it’s quite a comfy seat. Its position is adjustable vertically and horizontally. The main post of the seat is engraved with scale levels, so in case different users exercise on this machine, you’ll always know immediately what your setting is. It can go pretty low and high up, easily accommodating users between 4’4″ (132 cm) and 6’5″ (195 cm).

The horizontal connection of the seat boasts a hexagonal shape, resulting in a very solid connection. No matter how heavy you are, you won’t have to worry that the seat may be deviated laterally. Both horizontal and vertical adjusting stoppers feature clips not knobs, which makes adjusting much easier.

Handlebar

Just as the seat, the handlebar is adjustable horizontally and vertically. The posts are also hexagonally shaped for a firm connection. The handlebar design offers multiple grips, for various training routines. It’s consistently padded with rubber foam material, to supply a good grip. Also, it can accommodate a progress tracking computer. The box does not include one, though.

Accessories

There aren’t many accessories included with the standard package of the BodyCraft SPX. The only accessories that come with the box are two bottle holders, which should be attached to each side of the bike’s fork.

Assembly and Maintenance

The assembly of this bike shouldn’t take more than 20-30 minutes. Some of the parts are actually attached to the frame. All you need to install is the bases, seat, handlebar, pedals, and bottle holders. Crank, belt, belt guard and flywheel come already attached, along with the brake mechanism. It’s pretty easy and straightforward. The box includes the bike’s manual which will guide you step by step through the whole assembly process. The bike come with the tools necessary for the assembly task.

There’s very little maintenance to be done to this bike. The most important aspect is lubricating the brake pad with silicone-based lubricant. You should be able to find this type of lubricant in any bike shop. Brake pad is pretty sturdy and shouldn’t require replacing for at least a few years. It’s a standard pad, and you should be able to easily find a replacement, or simply call BodyCraft and they’ll send you one. The transmission belt is also made for heavy-duty strain. Even with daily exercising, it can last a lifetime.

What’s Best About This Bike

Even though most indoor spin bikes are made for high intensity training, without putting a lot of focus on comfort, BodyCraft SPX is a surprisingly comfortable bike. Its harmonious design was made to make your sweating session much more enjoyable. This is also quite a motivation booster.

Nonetheless, the bike’s supreme sturdiness and durability is also a plus. Frame, crank, seat, handlebars, flywheel, and just about any part in this bike are top-notch quality. Wearing it out, or breaking it will be some of your least concerns. In fact, once you have it assembled, your concern should be only your exercise.

Another very important advantage of this stationary bike is the horizontally adjustable handlebar. Many indoor cycle trainers offer the possibility to adjust the seat horizontally, but not the handlebar. Being able to move the handlebar further expands your array of exercising postures.

Last but not least, it’s a very quiet and low-maintenance piece of equipment. It’s also not very bulky, and you should be able to fit it just right, even in a smaller room.

Drawbacks

For the average home user, the price of this bike may seem a bit spicy. But top-quality never comes cheap. This bike is long-lasting, designed for club or gym use, a heavy-duty piece of equipment that can last a liftime with only home use.BodyCraft SPX Club Exercise Bike

It does not come with a bike computer. However, it does offer the possibilities for such an upgrade.

Final Word

Even though it’s not a genuine spin bike such as the Star Trac Spinner Blade, you can be sure that the SPX indoor cycling bike from BodyCraft will bring you the exact same quality and performance. It’s a gym-quality bike, designed to last, very sturdy, stable, quiet and basically maintenance-free. Whether you just want to sweat-out your extra pounds, toughen your leg, lower body, back and shoulder muscles, or just keep your cardiovascular system healthy, this bike will most definitely help you achieve your goals.
