The Xspec Pro indoor cycling bike is an inexpensive alternative to a spin bike. However, even though it can support most spin workouts, its flywheel is lighter than for most other cycling trainers in this price range. On top of that, its frame is made of aluminum, not steel. Therefore, it can be classified as a light indoor cycle.

Frame construction

As we’ve mentioned above, the Xspec Pro indoor cycling trainer features a frame made of aluminum, not steel. Its construction also integrates several plastic parts, such as the guards of the belt and resistant pad. However, these do not have any impact on the bike’s overall sturdiness.

Due to its aluminum construction, the bike is considerably light compared to other trainers in this price range, such as the Sunny SF-B1001 or the FitLeader FS1. When fully assembled, it weighs only 41.5 lbs (~19 kg), which means that it is easy to put together and transport. But nonetheless, the fact that it is lighter does not chip away from its stability, its base bars being equipped with adjustable stabilizers. Each stabilizer is rubberized in order to prevent any scratches to your floor.

Even though the bike is considerably light, its front base bar does incorporate transport wheels. Thus, the assembled bike is easy to relocate.

The Xspec Pro exercise bike does not take too much usage space. Its assembled footprint is 36.5″L x 20″W (93 x 51 cm). This being said, it requires a workout area of approx. 60″ x 50″ (153 x 127 cm), which makes it a great choice for small apartments or rooms.

The main frame, as well as the bars of the seat and handlebars, feature a corrosion resistant finish. The colors are black and blue, these being the only colors available for this Xspec exercise bike.

Before we move on to describing the seat and the handlebars of this exercise bike, there one last aspect to be mentioned here. Several websites list this exercise bike as an “upright bike”. Although it does offer the possibility to perform workouts while seated in upright position, it’s definitely a bike made for spin workouts. Its frame is also sturdy enough to support users up to 250 lbs (113.3 kg).

Seat and handlebars

The Xspec Pro exercise bike is equipped with a 4-way adjustable seat (up, down, backward and forward). The upright post of the seat features several adjustment positions, offering an adjustment span of several inches. This being said, the bike can accommodate users between 5’0″ and 6’0″ (153 – 183 cm). Taller users should also be able to use this bike, as long as they don’t exceed the 250 lbs (113.3 kg) weight limit, but they may not benefit from a complete leg extension for seated workouts.

The saddle is a standard model. It’s fairly slim, similar to the seats of most spin bikes. It integrates a layer of padding, though, to provide optimal comfort for seated workouts. It also has a longitudinal groove, promoting a healthy blood circulation also reducing overheating.

Since the seat features a standard design, replacements for it are widely available. So, in case you may want a wider seat, for more comfort during seated workouts, you should easily find a compatible replacement.

The bike’s handlebars are 2-way adjustable (up, down). They feature a multi-grip design with a loop aero bar to which the exercise meter attaches. The side handlebars integrate pulse sensors, so the console can track your pulse. They feature rubber-foam grips for optimal comfort.

Drive and resistance

The Xspec Pro exercise bike features a belt drive system, being equipped with a heavy-duty rubber belt, designed to last for many years of use, without stretching or losing durability. Considering that it uses a belt and not a chain, the bike doesn’t generate as much noise as a chain drive model (although, a chain isn’t extremely loud either). The pedaling motion is almost completely silent. Also, a chain would require periodic lubrication to prevent rust, while a belt doesn’t.

Even though the bike’s frame is made of steel, the crankset features solid steel crank arms. They can support the user in standing up pedaling routines, or various types of spin workouts. They can actually support riders up to 250 lbs (113.3 kg).

The crank arms are equipped with metallic pedals, featuring toe cages for extra thrust and foot stability during spin workouts. They do not have SPD elements for spin shoes, but on the other hand, they have standard threads so you can easily find replacements for them.

Compared to other indoor cycling trainers, such as the Sunny SF-B901B or the Bladez Fitness Fusion GS II, this Xspec bike has a lighter flywheel. It weighs only 16 lbs (7.2 kg), and this means that the bike provides a less demanding momentum. But nonetheless, it does supply the adequate training setting for light to medium spinning workouts. The flywheel is perimeter weighted though, an aspect that contributes to the overall smoothness of the ride.

The flywheel is bi-directional. This means you can pedal in reverse. However, if you stop pedaling, the flywheel and the pedals will continue to spin so it is strongly recommended to use the emergency brake to stop it before changing the way of pedaling, in order to avoid injuries.

This exercise bike features a simple, top-to-down felt pad resistance system. You adjust the bike’s resistance simply by turning the tension knob situated on the main tube of the frame. The resistance is exclusively manual, the bike’s console has no involvement at all within its adjustment.

The adjustment knob doesn’t have any resistance levels specified on it. This being said, you can basically tighten it up to the point you can barely pedal. It also doubles as an emergency brake; by pressing it down you can quickly stop the flywheel from spinning.

Fitness meter

The Xspec Pro indoor cycling bike includes a fitness meter. The meter unit offers a bit more than a completely basic unit, as it can track your pulse along with the speed, distance, time and calories burned. However, it’s not a telemetric unit, which means that it can only track your pulse if you hold onto the EGK sensors within the handlebars.

The meter unit has a SCAN function which rotates all the values displaying each one on-screen for several seconds. You can toggle the SCAN function On / Off though, in case you want to view only one of your workout metrics.

The exercise meter operation is easy and straightforward. It has two buttons, MODE and CLEAR. The MODE button toggles the SCAN function On and Off, while the CLEAR button, as its name suggests, resets all the values to zero. It’s battery powered, but batteries are not included.

Assembly and Maintenance

This exercise bike is really easy to assemble, a task which shouldn’t take more than 30 min. Most of it comes assembled from the factory. You will only have to add the base tubes, the seat post, the seat, the handlebars, the console and the pedals. All the tools required for the assembly are included, along with the owner’s manual which provides clear instructions for it.

Since it’s a belt-drive bike, it doesn’t require too much maintenance. You only have to periodically check for loose bolts and parts, and re-tighten them if it’s the case.
