Frame construction and parts

To begin with, the PowerLine P1X is far from being a bulky fitness machine. It’s base is only 71″ (180 cm) long, and 37″ (94 cm) wide, so at least widthwise, it doesn’t take a lot of space. The maximum width of the machine is given by the lat pull-down bar which is, being approxpowerline p1x - top pulley cable 48″ (122 cm). The machine also requires a few feet of clearance on each side and at front, for the safe execution of the various exercises possible. Also, its highest point is 83″ (211 cm), which means it should fit in a room with a 7′ ceiling. However, it will be a pretty tight fit, so it’s recommended to assemble and use it in a room with a higher ceiling.

As opposed to the BSG10X model, the frame of this particular PowerLine home gym is made of ovalized bars not square, 1.5″ x 3.25″, featuring a friendlier layout. It’s double coated with corrosion resistant and scratch resistant silver paint, this being the only color available at the moment.

Although the weight capacity of this machine is not specified, the part of the frame sustaining the seat, as well as the seat assembly itself, are strong enough to support users up to 350 lbs (159 kg) with no problem.

The seat supplied with this home gym system does not have a gliding mechanism, such as the Bowflex PR1000. Therefore, it doesn’t support rowing exercises with the complete range of motion for the legs. You can perform seated rows by using the machine’s low pulley station. The seat and the back support are adjustable though. Their posts have several adjustment holes, providing various workout postures. Evidently, since the backrest is attached to the main vertical bar of the frame, the machine does not offer the possibility to perform horizontal presses. Both seat and backrest feature 2.5 (6 cm) padding, and durable synthetic leather upholstery.

This PowerLine home gym system features a “no cable change” design, meaning that it includes cables for all the pulleys, which you attach in their places as you assemble the machine. Differently put, you won’t have to relocate cables, depending on what pulley base you want to use. You only have to relocate the bars or grips accessories. Speaking of cables, the ones supplied are spun steel ropes, tested for over 2,000 lbs of tension. They’re also covered by a thin sheet of heavy-duty PVC for a smoother glide over the pulleys.

The machine integrates 14 pulleys. They’re all made of heavy-duty nylon material, integrating stainless steel, sealed ball bearings for prolonged use. Although they’re extremely durable, they also have a standard design, and in case one breaks, you should easily find a replacement for it.

The leg attachment features 4″ foam rollers, to provide the required comfort for leg exercises. And finally, the machine’s bases feature injected rubber stabilizers and caps, to enhance the machine’s grip onto the floor.

Included workout stations

The P1X home gym includes several well-defined workout stations. These are:

Chest press station. Designed for multiple grips and seated press, the pec station of this machine offers the possibility to work your pectorals and shoulder muscles.

Lat pulldown and high pulley station. Evidently, this is an indispensable element inpowerline p1x - lat pulldown station the construction of home gym system of this type, required for the development of shoulder, triceps and back muscles. It integrates a standard, detachable lat bar, with a length of 49″ (124 cm) between the grips.

Low pulley station. This machine doesn’t offer a mobile seat with rollers for complete rowing exercises like the Bowflex Blaze for example. However, it does offer the possibility to perform seated row exercises on its low pulley station. This pulley also promotes exercises such as cable curls, shrugs, leg abductions etc.

Mid pulley station. Several other home gym system within this range of specs, such as the Gold’s Gym XR 55 for example, don’t include a mid pulley station. This particular workout station offers the possibility to perform ab crunches and triceps extensions; the accessories included with the machine cover an ab crunch harness.

Leg attachment and low pulley station. This element offers the possibility to execute exercises such as leg extensions, leg cable curls, or standing biceps curls. Evidently, the attachment features consistently padded rollers, to offer the required comfort for leg extensions.

Accessories

First of all, the included accessories for the PowerLine P1X home gym machine are: ab crunch harness, 48″ lat bar, short low-row bar, one handle grip.

However, there are several other optional accessories. The most important is the weightpowerline p1x - ab crunch harness stack upgrade. The standard 160 lbs weight stack provided with the machine, can be upgraded by 5 more plates (50 lbs), as opposed to the BSG model, which cannot be upgraded.

There’s also a leg press attachment available for this machine. Its code name is PLPX. It’s a simple press attachment, with a rubber-covered steel plate for feet positioning. The press plate has a pivoting design, rotating both forward and downward, for exercises targeting thighs, glutes and hamstrings. Its weight ratio is 2:1, it has 5 extra pulleys, and with it attached, the machine’s width will become 66″ (167.6 cm).

Other options include a premium ankle strap with faux wool padding, stirrup handle and a protective rubber mat.

Weight Resistance System and Increments

As you can see in the attached photos, the PowerLine P1X machine features a weight stack resistance system. The weight stack includes 15 steel alloy weight plates, plus the top shaft body-solid powerline p1x - weight stack - 160 lbscollar. Each plate weighs 10 lbs (4.5 kg), the total weight of the stack being 160 lbs (72.5 kg). Differently put, it’s a machine for beginners and intermediate users.

As we’ve mentioned above, the machine’s weight stack is upgradable. It allows the addition of 5 extra plates (50 lbs), offering a total weight resistance of 210 lbs (95.2 kg).

A set of weight stickers is supplied with the machine, and they’re supposed to be placed on the plates in ascending order, top-to-bottom. The weight adjustment system is simple. You insert a pin into the plate with the desired weight.

Possible Exercises

This home gym machine offers the possibility to perform over 40 exercises. So, before we enumerate some of them, we’ll start with the exercises you can’t actually achieve with this machine.

First of all, the machine doesn’t feature a long or adjustable bench, and therefore its leg attachment doesn’t support traditional leg curls. You can replace the horizontal leg curls with standing-up leg curls though, one leg at the time, using the low pulley station.

The machine doesn’t have a pec fly station either. In other words, you can’t do pectoral fly exercises. Also, there isn’t a possibility to add a pec fly station to this home gym machine. However, you can train the same group of muscles by performing standing cross-overs, with one arm, using the mid pulley station.

Among the possible exercises that can be performed with this machine, we can enumerate:

Assembly and Maintenance

The machine comes packaged in quite a heavy box (over 300 lbs) which means the package should be received by at least two people. Also, especially if the machine will be setup in a room upstairs or downstairs, it’s best to unbox it and carry the parts one by one to the desired location.

The assembly of this home gym system is far from being difficult, but due to the many parts, it will take at least a couple of hours. Tools are not provided, and you’ll need a Phillips screwdriver, 4,5,6,8 mm Allen keys, and an adjustable wrench.

For maintenance you’ll have to check the joints of the machine periodically and re-tighten the bolts if necessary. The guide rods and linear rods may require lubrication. Also, if any parts sustain damage, they should be replaced before re-using the machine, to avoid accidents.
