The Stamina X air rower is pretty similar to the Stamina ATS model. In fact, there are only several differences between these two models. For example, the Stamina X model features pivoting footplates, while on the ATS model these are fixed. The X model has fitness meter with a wider display, which can indicate multiple values simultaneously. And of course, there’s also the color difference. The X model is available in red and black, while the ATS is silver and black.
There are quite a few aspects to cover regarding this rowing machine. But the first aspect to be clarified is the model number. This particular Stamina rower is the 35-1412 model.

Frame and gliding rail
The Stamina X air rower features a steel-made, 2-part frame, with a sturdy construction, and a folding design. The front part with the fan and console can be folded over the gliding rail to save some space. The folding system is simple. The frame is locked in extended or folded position via a pin; you simply need to remove the pin when you want to fold/unfold the machine.
However, even when folded, the machine still takes approx. 45″ (114 cm) of space, length wise. When unfold and in use position, this air rower has a footprint of 78.5″L x 18″W (199.4 x 45.7 cm). In other words, it’s not exactly a small machine. Thus, if you want a rower but the space for its use is an issue, you might as well opt for a hydraulic rower, such as the Stamina Body Trac Glider 1050, or the Kettler Favorit.
The bases of the frame feature adjustable feet, with rubber stands, which give you the possibility to stabilize the machine perfectly on any type of floor. The front base also features a set of wheels, to help with the transportation of the assembled (and folded) machine. The rower is however, not extremely heavy. At 63 lbs (28.5 kg) anyone should be able to move it.
Evidently, one of the most important parts in the frame construction of this rower, is the seat gliding rail. This rail is long enough to accommodate users with an inseam of approx. 36″ (91.4 cm). In other words, the rower can fit users up to 6’5″ – 6’6″ (198-201 cm) comfortably, supplying a complete leg extension.
The gliding rail is sturdy enough to support users up to 250 lbs (113 kg). As opposed to other rowers, such as WaterRower models with wooden frame, the gliding rail of this machine stands a bit higher above the floor level. First of all, it’s not completely horizontal. It’s set at a front to back angle of approx. 5°. Thus, when fully extended, the seat stands above floor level at approx. 18″ (46 cm), which makes this rower a more appropriate choice for users with disabilities, who may find it difficult to stand up, if the seat comes too close to the floor.
The fact that the gliding rail is a bit inclined helps with a faster recovery motion. It also puts a bit more focus on the leg muscles during the extension motion.
Seat and other parts
The seat equipped on the Stamina X Air rower is contoured, to adapt better to your body. It also features some padding, but it does not have a thick cushioning like the seat on the Stamina 1205 Precision hydraulic rower, for example. In terms of comfort, it’s pretty much an average seat, offering the comfort that you can expect from most rowing machines.
On the other hand, the seat is built on a steel frame, being quite a durable part. It glides on a set of 6 high-grade rollers, 4 on top of the rail, and 2 below. These rollers incorporate sealed ball bearings, which considerably increase the life of the rollers themselves.
This Stamina rower features a set of pivoting footrests. It means that their angle is adjustable. This is actually a plus, as not all users may be comfortable with a fixed footrest angle. The footrests also have adjustable straps, to keep your feet in place during the workout. This feature, although it may seem insignificant, is quite useful for users with disabilities, in case they may not have complete control over their feet.
The last element within this machine’s construction that we’re going to cover here, is the pulling bar. It’s a simple, steel-made straight bar, padded with thick rubber foam material, to supply a comfortable grip, and considerably reduce the chances to sustain damage to the hands during rowing. The pulling chain is connected to this bar via a screw.
Resistance system
As the name of the rower suggests, it’s an air resistance type. The resistance system involves a fan-shaped flywheel, enclosed in a metallic wire cage. The machine does not feature a damper, or any other element that can increase its overall resistance. However, just as for any rower of this type, the resistance is variable, depending on how hard or fast you pull.
The maximum resistance that you can obtain on this rower is not as tough as the resistance offered by a Concept2. After all, it’s a machine designed for home use, not a commercial one. But nonetheless, it can still help you achieve a consistent cardio workout, putting to work many muscle groups. It’s also a great machine for improving your overall stamina, and interval training.
Fitness meter
The console unit, or the meter supplied with the Stamina X rower is a rather basic one. However, it’s still better than the one that comes with the ATS model. This unit features 3 panel display, and can indicate up to 3 values at once. It can track strokes per minute (SPM), total strokes (Count), distance (in miles) speed (in MPH), time and calories. It cannot track pulse though. Thus, in case you need to monitor your heart rate during your workout, you will have to
This fitness monitor is really easy to use. It features only one button (MODE). It can be turned on by pressing the button, but it also automatically turns on when it detects seat movement. It automatically shuts off after 4 minutes of inactivity on the rower. All the current values will be kept though.
To select any of the values you want to view on screen, simply press the MODE button multiple times. Also, in case you want to reset all the values to zero, press and hold the button for 5 seconds.
Last but not least, the meter requires 2 AA-type batteries, which are not included. In order to add or replace batteries, you need to pry the meter out from the plastic casing, add the batteries at its back, and then reconnect it to the rower.
Assembly and Maintenance
The two main parts of the frame, the rail and the front part with the fan, come connected together. The resistance system is completely assembled as well. So, for assembly, you only need add the two bases of the machine, the footrests, the seat, and of course, put batteries in the fitness meter. Required tools and owner’s manual are included with the machine. Also, the whole assembly shouldn’t take more than 30-45 minutes, and can be done by only one person.
Maintenance requires you to keep the roller tracks free of any dirt, sand or other objects that may cause damage to the rail itself or the rollers. Other than that, periodically check and re-tighten the screw of the machine, if it’s the case.
Also, to enact the warranty for this product, you will have to register it with StaminaProducts. You’ll find guidance for this in the manual as well.
