Frame construction
The Soozier A90-144 indoor cycle features a standard triangular frame combining oval, rectangular, and cylindrical steel tubing in its construction. all the steel parts are coated with a rust-resistant paint finish. The main color used for the frame is black, while the seat and handlebar posts are painted gray. The flywheel has a chrome plating finish with side panels made from ABS material. The belt guard is also ABS-made.
The bike is not too large. With all the parts assembled, it is only 40.6″ (103 cm) long, and 18.9″ (48 cm) wide. Its highest point, with the handlebar extended all the way up is 45.3″ (115 cm). This being said, the bike itself doesn’t take too much space, but it is recommended to leave at least 24″ (61 cm) of clearance all around it for ease of access.
The bike’s frame integrates a step-up bar, the short horizontal bar that connects the main oblique tube and the seat tube of the bike. This not only gives you the possibility to easily mount and dismount or perform various other exercises, it also improves the structural sturdiness of the bike’s frame.
The bike is not too heavy either. Its net weight is 57.2 lbs (26 kg). This being said, it can be carried and assembled by only one person. Also, once it is assembled, it can easily be moved as its front base bar features transport wheels.
Seat and handlebars
The saddle included with the Soozier A90-144 is a standard one. It is built on an ABS shell, it has a durable vinyl cover and a thin layer of padding. It does not have the rear suspension or the middle cutout like other, more expensive bike saddles, so it’s not super comfortable, but comfort can always be improved with a gel seat cover. Also, the saddle has a standard collar-type attachment system so it can easily be replaced, while compatible options can be found in just about any bike shop.
The bike’s seat is four-way adjustable (up, down, front, back). The upright post offers several adjustment holes, while the horizontal slider adds a few more inches of front-to-back adjustment. This being said, the bike should be able to accommodate users between 5’0″ and 6’3″ (153 – 190 cm) with no problem. It is also rated for a maximum user weight limit of 265 lbs (120 kg).
The bike’s handlebar is similar to the one included with the VIGBODY HL-5230 model. It has a multi-grip design, allowing a standard grip, a cruising grip, and a climbing grip. It also has a small loop bar in the middle to which the fitness monitor attaches. This can also be used for a close grip.
The side grips of the handlebar have a PVC foam coating for improved contact. They integrate metallic pulse sensors and the fitness monitor has a heart rate reading function. As opposed to the seat, the handlebar is only two-way adjustable, offering an upright adjustment span of approx. 4″ (10 cm), up to 45.3″ (115 cm).
Drive system
The Soozier A90-144 is equipped with a belt drive system. It integrates a poly-v belt which is concealed by a large guard made of tough thermoplastic material. Since its drivetrain uses a belt, not a chain, periodic lubrication is not necessary. Also, the belt delivers slightly less vibration than a chain.
This Soozier indoor cycling trainer features a 17.6 lbs (8 kg) flywheel. Although it’s not as heavy as the flywheels included with the commercial spin bikes, it still has a perimeter-weighted design, which is meant to provide a more consistent momentum.
The flywheel is bi-directional. This means you can pedal in reverse, so you can diversify your workouts if you want. However, when pedaling in reverse, you will get the same resistance as when pedaling forward and coasting isn’t possible.
The bike is equipped with a pretty sturdy 3-piece crankset. It features long and flat arms, similar to the ones on road bikes. The pedals are made of aluminum alloy. They have a non-slip design with adjustable toe cages. They do not have SPD clips, but their threads are standard 9/16″ so compatible replacements are widely available.
Resistance system
The Soozier A90-144 exercise bike features a friction resistance system with manual adjustment. This being said, you don’t need a power adapter or an external power source to adjust the resistance. But on the other hand, the bike cannot adjust the resistance automatically, and the included fitness monitor does not have workout programs.
The bike’s resistance system consists of a felt pad attached under the main tube of the frame and concealed by the top guard. It is connected to the tension knob on top of the same tube. Therefore, when you turn the knob clockwise, the brake pad applies more friction to the flywheel which increases the pedaling difficulty.
There are no pre-determined settings on the tension knob as is the case for various exercise bikes with a magnetic resistance system. You simply tighten the brake until you reach a suitable difficulty. As a general idea, you can tighten the brake up to the point you can barely pedal.
The bike’s tension system also has an emergency stop feature. You can press the tension knob down for an immediate flywheel stop. This is actually quite necessary as stopping the flywheel from spinning from the pedals with your feet, can lead to injuries.
Fitness monitor
The Soozier A90-144 indoor cycle includes a basic fitness monitor. It features an LCD display (without backlight) that tracks time, distance, odometer, speed, pulse, and calories burned. The pulse reading function is grip only. In other words, you have to hold on to the integrated sensors so that the monitor can read your pulse. It does not work with any type of wireless transmitter.
The monitor unit is very easy to use. It only has one button. By pressing the button repeatedly, you can scroll through the workout metrics and select the one you want to view. In the same way, you can select the unit’s Scan Mode. If the Scan Mode is selected, the unit will rotate all the workout metrics showing each one for a few seconds.
The monitor is battery-powered. It begins tracking elapsed time, distance traveled, calories, speed, etc. when you start pedaling or when you press the button. It also turns off automatically after a few minutes of inactivity on the bike. Although a device holder is included with the bike, the monitor unit does not have any ports (AUX or USB) to connect your phone to it and does not have Bluetooth.
Assembly and Maintenance
The main body of the bike comes pre-assembled. You only need to attach the two base stabilizers, the seat post, the seat, the handlebar post, the handlebars, the fitness monitor, and the pedals. All the necessary tools are included. Also, the manual provides pretty clear assembly instructions.
For maintenance, the bike’s drivetrain does not require any lubrication. However, since the brake is friction type, the brake pad may need a bit of silicone lubricant, especially if it’s too noisy when in contact with the flywheel. For this, you can apply some silicone oil on the edge of the flywheel. Other than this, you only have to keep the bike clean, and periodically check for loose parts.
