Frame construction

The Sunny Health & Fitness SF-B910 upright bike features a frame made of steel tubing. However, since it’s a light-capacity unit, its structure isn’t extremely heavy. In fact, it only weighs 43 lbs (19.5 kg) and this being said, it can easily be assembled and handled by only one person. But nonetheless, its front base stabilizer features transport rollers to ease its relocation.

This Sunny exercise bike does not have a folding design, such as the XTERRA FB150. However, it does have a really small footprint. With the frame fully assembled, it’s only 34.5″ (88 cm) long, and 23″ (58 cm) wide. Therefore, it can be a great choice for a small room or apartment.

Despite its small footprint and lightness, the bike is quite stable. Not only that it has a low center of gravity, but it’s rear base also has polygonal levelers. These offer the possibility to level the unit on uneven floor in order to maximize its stability.

All the steel parts in the bike’s construction are coated with thick gray paint finish which is resistant to corrosion. However, the covers of the flywheel and transmission are made of ABS material.

Seat & handlebars

Since the Sunny SF-B910 is a basic exercise bike, it is equipped with a standard seat. The saddle features a contoured design and a thin layer of foam padding at the top. It’s not designed for super comfort, but it’s definitely wider than a spin bike seat; its dimensions are 10.5″L x 9.5″W (26.6 x 24.1 cm). Therefore, we can say that it provides optimal comfort and contact surface.

The post of the seat features a triangular plate at the top. The saddle attaches to it via 3 screws. Bike saddles of this type are available in most bike shops. Therefore, in case you want to replace it, there definitely are options.

The seat is two-way adjustable (up, down). Its upright post has 7 adjustment positions, with approx. 1″ (2.5 cm) in between them. This being said, the bike can accommodate users with an inseam between 24″ and 32″ (61 – 81 cm), or differently put, users between 5’0″ and 6’0″ (153 – 183 cm). Also, the seat should be able to support users up to 220 lbs (100 kg).

The upright bar of the seat features a plastic, stretchable cover. Although this may seem to be shock absorption element, it’s definitely not. It’s simply a cover that provides some protection to the seat post.

This Sunny exercise bike is equipped with a multi-grip handlebar. To be more specific, it offers the possibility to adopt three grips, standard, parallel and race. Its side arms are covered by a layer of rubber foam material in order to provide a comfortable and secure grip. They also integrate metallic contact pulse sensors.

Resistance & drive

The Sunny SF-B910 upright bike is equipped with a manual magnetic resistance system. This means it does not need to be connected to a power source. Also, its console does not play any role in its resistance adjustment.

The bike’s resistance system consists of an internal magnetic brake element which is connected through a steel wire, to the tension dial on the console mast. There are 8 tension levels specified on this dial, from left to right. Therefore, when you turn it clockwise, the magnetic brake moves closer to the flywheel, increasing the pedaling difficulty.

Nonetheless, this is a light-capacity exercise bike. This being said, it doesn’t provide the high-intensity training possibilities of an indoor cycling bike such as the Sunny Health & Fitness SF-B1805. It’s a unit intended for light cardio and muscle toning.

With regards to the bike’s drive system, there are three main elements to cover. These are the flywheel, the transmission, and the crankset with its pedals.

The bike is equipped with an internal metallic flywheel. Its exact weight is not specified, but considering the weight of the bike, it shouldn’t weigh more than 6-8 lbs. It is designed to provide a smooth pedaling motion.

Since it’s a magnetic exercise bike its internal transmission uses a belt. This being said, it doesn’t need lubrication. Also, the usage of does not generate too much noise or vibration.

The bike is equipped with a fairly durable crankset, featuring steel crank arms. However, it is not a unit made for spin workouts or for standing up on the pedals. Workouts of this nature can cause damage either to the crank or the internal elements.

The included pedals feature a weighted design. Therefore, they always turn face-up when you remove your feet from them. They have a metallic core and a nylon cover. They’re equipped with adjustable straps so you can secure your feet on them. Also, their threads are standard, so you can easily find replacements for them if needed.

Exercise meter

Although the Sunny SF-B910 is a rather basic upright bike, it is equipped with an exercise meter that offers a few features more than a completely basic unit. In other words, it has a pulse reading function and a target setting function. Its display indicates time, distance, total distance, speed, calories, and pulse.

The unit has a SCAN mode which rotates all the values showing each one for 6 seconds. You can toggle the SCAN mode off, or repeatedly press the Mode button to select one of the workout metrics that you want to view at all time.

The Set button allows you to select targets (or goal values) for time, distance, and calories. If a goal is selected for any of these, the console will show the remaining value towards the selected goal. And finally, the Enter button covers the selection function. You can also press and hold it to reset all the values to zero.

Needless to say, the meter unit is not telemetric. It cannot track your pulse via a wireless transmitter. Therefore, in order to benefit from a pulse reading, you can only use the integrated sensors.

The bike’s meter unit has a sleep mode function to which will enter after 8 minutes of inactivity on the bike. It starts up when you press any of the buttons, or when you begin pedaling. And finally, the meter requires 2 AAA batteries which are included.

Assembly & Maintenance

The bike’s base with all the drive and resistance elements comes pre-assembled. Therefore, you only need to attach the base stabilizers, the front mast, the handlebars, the meter unit, the seat post, the seat, and the pedals. This shouldn’t take more than an hour. All the necessary assembly instructions are covered by the manual. Also, all the required tools are included.

Internal maintenance is not required for this exercise bike. Therefore, the only maintenance that you should do for it is a periodic check for loose bolts or parts.
