The JOROTO SP03 is a folding upright bike similar in terms of features to the XTERRA FB150. However, it has a slightly different design with a curved front base for extra stability and a partially open flywheel. It’s a bike designed for home use, for light cardio workouts.

Frame construction

Like most folding upright bikes, the JOROTO SP03 features an “X-type” frame composed of two main sections connected at the middle. The longest section features two parallel tubes and integrates the handlebar. The other section consists of a shorter and thicker bar which serves as a tube for the seat post and has the bike’s drive system attached to it.

The bike is coated with a corrosion-resistant paint finish. The color used is black, this being the only color available for this model. However, the covers of the pulley and a section of the exercise meter are yellow, in order to add an aesthetic touch to the bike.

The JOROTO SP03 is not a large trainer. With the frame fully assembled and extended, its full length (from the top of the handlebar to the rear base) is only 42.9″ (109 cm) long, and its width 19.7″ (50 cm). Its footprint is actually a few inches shorter. These being said, the unit should fit pretty well in an area of at least 60″ x 50″ (152 x 114 cm).

The bike is not extremely heavy either. With the frame fully assembled, it weighs approx. 50.7 lbs (23 kg). In other words, it can be carried and assembled with no problem by only one person. Plus, its rear base integrates a set of small wheels which facilitate its relocation.

Seat and handlebars

The JOROTO SP03 is equipped with a large seat, designed to provide extra comfort and contact surface. The saddle measures 11″ (28 cm) in width and 8″ (20 cm) in depth. Its top is made of high-density foam material and a contoured surface. It also has two breathable sections at the rear which improve its overall cushioning.

The seat is only two-way adjustable (up, down). Its post offers 5 adjustment positions, for an inseam length between 26″ and 30″ (66 – 76 cm). In other words, it should accommodate users between 5’2″ and 6’2″ (162 – 188 cm) with no problem. Also, along with the frame structure, it is designed to support users up to 220 lbs (100 kg).

The bike’s handlebar features a 3-grip design. It is non-adjustable, being directly attached to the two parallel bars of the longest frame part. It is fully covered by a layer of high-density foam in order to provide a superior grip and optimal comfort.

The fact that the bike’s handlebar integrates pulse sensors is a plus. Not all exercise bikes have this feature. These two sensors are directly connected to the exercise meter which can indicate your pulse rate during exercising.

One last important aspect to mention here regards the phone holder. This accessory attaches to the left side of the handlebar. It is a clamp-type holder which provides an excellent grip to your phone preventing it from falling during a more intense workout.

Drive and resistance

One of the most important elements within the bike’s drive system is the flywheel. The SP03 is equipped with a 15 lbs (6.8 kg) flywheel which is not bad for a folding, light-capacity exercise bike. This flywheel is chrome-plated and partially protruding from the drive system casing. It has balanced structure designed to provide a smooth pedaling motion. It’s also bi-directional, giving you the possibility to pedal in reverse if you want.

The bike’s crankset is similar to the one of a spin bike. It features longer and more solid crank arms with aluminum alloy pedals. This results in an ampler range of motion with each rotation. The pedals have a non-slip design and toe cages with adjustable straps. However, they do not have clips for spin shoes. Their threads are 9/16 – standard.

It’s important to mention here that even though the bike has a crankset with pedals similar to a spin bike, it is not made for spin workouts. In other words, standing up on the pedals is not recommended.

The JOROTO SP03 is equipped with a manual-magnetic resistance system with 16 distinct levels, which is quite a plus since most upright bikes of this type only offer 8 levels of resistance. This bike’s resistance system consists of a mechanical magnetic brake which is connected to the tension knob on the main section of the frame. By turning this knob to the right, the magnetic brake moves closer to the flywheel which increases the pedaling difficulty. Conversely, by turning the knob to the left, the pedal resistance will decrease.

One last aspect to mention here regards the bike’s drivetrain. Like most other exercise bikes with a magnetic resistance system, the JOROTO SP03 features a belt drive system. This type of drive comes with a few advantages. To begin with, it generates almost no noise and vibration. It also doesn’t require any lubrication or maintenance.

Exercise meter

The bike includes a basic exercise meter. The unit features an LCD display which indicates speed, distance, total distance (ODO), time, calories burned and pulse. It does not have goal functions or preset programs. It is not telemetric, so it cannot read your pulse through a wireless HR chest strap. Thus, in order to have your pulse read, you will have to use the sensors integrated into the handlebars.

The exercise meter is pretty easy to use. Has only one button. It turns on when you push the button or when you begin pedaling. By selecting the SCAN function, the console will rotate the values showing each one of them for several minutes. However, you can select any of the values to be shown on the display at all time.

Finally, the fitness meter is battery powered. It uses two AA batteries which are included. It also has a sleep mode to which will enter after several minutes of inactivity on the bike.

Assembly and Maintenance

The two main sections of the frame come pre-assembled, connected together at the middle. Also, all the drive and resistance elements are already in place. You only have to add the two base bars, the seat, the handlebars, the exercise meter, the pedals, and the phone holder. This shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes. The included brochure provides pretty decent assembly instructions, and a few basic tools for assembly are included.

The bike’s maintenance doesn’t require much. All the internal components are pre-lubricated from the factory, and since the bike has a belt drive system, it doesn’t require any lubrication. Thus, all you have to do is wipe the dust from the frame and periodically check for loose parts and bolts.
