Frame construction
The Sunny Health & Fitness SF-B2916 features a steel frame coated with a corrosion-resistant paint finish. The color used for the finish is metallic gray, this being the only color available for this fan bike model. The bike’s construction also integrates several ABS parts. For example, the cover of the drive system and the flywheel are ABS made.
This Sunny exercise bike does not have a folding frame, but does have a fairly small footprint. It’s actually approx. 10″ (25.4 cm) shorter than the Sunny SF-B2640. It is 40″ (102 cm) long, and 23″ (58 cm) wide, so it should fit pretty well even into a small room. It is recommended, though, to leave at least two feet of clearance on each side of the bike, and at least one foot of clearance at the front and rear, for safe usage and ease of access.
The fully assembled bike isn’t too heavy. It weighs approx. 60.6 lbs (27.4 kg). This pretty much means that it can be carried and assembled by only one person.
The rear base bar of the bike is curved to provide extra stability. It is also equipped with polygonal caps which can rotate and act as levelers. Also, the front base of the bike features two small wheels for ease of transportation.
One last important aspect to mention here is that the Sunny SF-B2916 is equipped with a set of footrests, a pretty useful feature which other fan bikes don’t have. These are attached to the front supporting frame tubes and give you the possibility to rest your legs while still using the mobile arms of the bike.
Seat and handlebars
The Sunny Health & Fitness SF-B2916 air resistance bike comes with a standards saddle. It is 10″ (25.4 cm) long, and 11″ (28 cm) wide. It does not have air cell cushioning, but does integrate a layer of padding. Also, its surface is contoured, with a longitudinal groove for improved breathability. These being said, the included seat is designed for optimal comfort.
The saddle features a standard, collar-based attachment system to the slider. Therefore, in case you will ever need or want to replace it, compatible options are widely available.
The bike’s seat offers 4-way adjustability (front, back, up, down). The upright post offers several adjustment positions while the horizontal slider also allows a few inches of front to back adjustment. It is designed to fit users with an inseam between 27″ and 37″ (68.5 – 93.8 cm); in other words, it should accommodate users between 5’2″ and 6’2″ (157 – 188 cm) with no problem. It is also designed to support users up to 220 lbs (100 kg).
Like most other fan exercise bikes, the Sunny SF-B2916 only has the mobile handlebars. It does not have a stationary handlebar set. Also, the mobile handlebars are directly connected to the pedal bars, so they continue to move for as long as you pedal. They cannot be locked in a stationary position.
Drive and resistance
The Sunny SF-B2916 exercise bike is equipped with a dual transmission using a belt and a chain. The chain is attached to the crank system and a small pulley, while the belt is attached to the small pulley and the bike’s fan. This type of dual transmission leads to a smoother pedaling motion and a slightly higher pedaling difficulty.
The bike features a pretty durable crankset with solid steel arms. However, it’s basically an upright bike, so it is not recommended to stand on the pedals during workouts. The pedals are pretty durable as well, but they’re made of nylon material, not aluminum, so they may not hold standing up routines either. On the other hand, the pedals have a weighted design; this means they always turn face-up if you remove your feet from them. They also have adjustable straps for extra foot stability.
Since it’s an air resistance bike, the main (and only) resistance-generating element is the large fan visible at the front of the bike. The bike does not have any magnetic resistance elements, so you cannot adjust the overall resistance of the bike. Also, the console does not have any preset workout programs and cannot adjust the resistance automatically.
But on the other hand, the bike provides a dynamic response. In other words, if you pedal and move its arms at a faster rate, the resistance generated by the fan will also increase.
Last but not least, it is important to mention that the bike’s fan does generate a certain level of noise, especially when you pedal at a very fast rate. However, the noise generated is not extremely loud. It can be compared to the sound generated by a large electric fan.
Exercise meter
The Sunny Health & Fitness SF-B2916 motion air bike is equipped with a basic exercise meter. As we’ve mentioned above, it does not have any preset workout programs, nor it is compatible with any fitness apps. It features an LCD displays which indicates time, distance, total distance, speed, and calories burned.
The meter unit does not have a pulse reading function and the bike does not integrate pulse sensors. Thus, if you will want to track your pulse during your workouts, you will have to use a separate device. Also, speed and distance can be set to Metric (km/h and km) or English units (mph and miles).
The exercise meter is pretty easy to use. It has three buttons – Mode, Set, and Reset. The Mode button allows you to select one of the workout metrics that you want to view on the display, or select the Scan Mode which rotates all the workout metrics, showing each one for a few seconds. The Set button allows you to set up countdown values for time, distance, and calories burned. And finally, the Reset button clears all the values on the console to zero.
The unit requires two AAA batteries as its power source which should be included. It starts up when you press the Mode button or when you begin pedaling. It also automatically shuts down if it doesn’t detect any activity on the bike for four minutes.
The ABS casing of the console integrated a tablet holder which is large enough to accommodate any tablet. It does not have a USB or any other type of connector for a tablet or smartphone. Also, the top section of the console features a grid with the heart rate zones that you should aim for depending on your age, in order to benefit from a better aerobic output, fat burn, etc. Of course, this requires the usage of an HR monitoring device.
Assembly and Maintenance
The main body of the bike comes pre-assembled. Therefore, you only have to attach the two base bars, the swing tubes of the handlebars, the top sections of the handlebars, the pedal bars, the pedals, the console mast, the console, and the seat. This shouldn’t take more than an hour. All the necessary tools for the task are included and the manual provides very clear assembly instructions and details with regards to the bike’s parts.
In terms of maintenance, the bike’s internal parts are pre-lubricated, but after a while, the internal chain may require lubrication. The fan casing and the fan may accumulate dust which can be removed by vacuuming the unit from the outside (you don’t have to take it apart). Other than this, it is recommended to periodically check for loose bolts and re-tighten them if it’s the case.

Summary
The Sunny Health & Fitness SF-B2916 is an air resistance exercise bike designed for home use. It features a steel frame, a 4-way adjustable seat and also includes a fitness meter which tracks the most important workout metrics. It’s a bike designed for light to medium workouts, perfect for interval training, gaining stamina, recovery training and weight loss. And finally, it’s one of the most affordable air bikes that you can find at the moment.
When I’m pedaling, theres a squeaking noise that the machine makes.
What could that possibly be?
It may be one of the pedals, one of the handlebar joints, or one of the joints of the fan. Some lubricant should solve it, but you may need to loosen that particular joint in order to lubricate it properly, and then re-tighten it.
can you pedal the bike backwards?
is there some way to just pedal (no arms)?
Yes, you can pedal backwards. No, pedals cannot be adjusted.
