It’s light-commercial power cage which integrates a lat machine, dip handles and several other accessories and workout stations. In this post, we’re going to cover them all.

Frame construction

The Fitness Reality X-Class 2868 is a light-commercial power cage and therefore, it delivers excellent sturdiness and stability. It’s made of 2″ x 3″ tubular steel, coated with a rust-resistant and chip-resistant paint finish. The colors used are black for the upright bars, base bars, and the top handles, and silver for the top bars and the safety bars. The upright bar of the lat slider features a chrome finish.

The fully assembled unit is fairly large. It’s approx. 86.5″ (220 cm) long, and 52″ (132 cm) wide. However, the outer distance between the safety or catch bars is approx. 49″ (~124 cm). Therefore, if you will be using an Olympic bar, you will have at least one inch of clearance on each side, between the bar’s collar and safety bar.

The unit’s height is 86″ (218 cm). It’s pretty clear that it won’t fit in a room with a 7′ (214 cm) ceiling. It’s also recommended to assemble it and use it in a room with a ceiling that allows at least 12″ (30.5 cm) of clearance above it so that you can execute all the pull-ups and chin-ups correctly.

The upright bars of the cage feature 25 adjustment positions for the safety bars. The distance between the adjustment holes is approx. 2″ (5 cm).

The unit’s base bars feature pre-drilled holes for anchoring the unit to the floor. However, considering that the whole cage without any weight plates loaded on it, weighs 301 lbs (136.5 kg), bolting it to the floor may not be necessary.

The rear bottom section of the cage features a U-shaped stability bar with two foot supports for low rows or other exercises. This U-bar not only that provides lower support and anchoring points for the lat machine, it also improves the overall sturdiness of the cage frame.

Other parts and accessories

The Fitness Reality X-Class 2868 power cage includes two short 11.5″ (~29 cm) safety bars, and two long 35.5″ (~90 cm) safety bars. Each set offers a combined weight capacity of 1,500 lbs (680 kg). Each safety bar features a layer of rubber material on top, to prevent dents, scratches or loud re-racking noises of the weight bar.

The long safety bars feature 13 adjustment positions for the included dip handles. This results in superior adjustability for the dip station, so the unit can accommodate users of all sizes.

The included dip handles are 20″ (51 cm) long. They have rubberized 2″ (5 cm) grips for optimal comfort, and a weight capacity of 600 lbs (272 kg). This being said, you can perform weighted dips with no problem.

The top frame bar of this Fitness Reality X-Class power cage is equipped with a long, curved pull-up bar, and two pull-up handles on the opposite side for parallel pull-ups. The bar is 44″ (~112 cm) long and has curved lateral grips. Both the pull-up bar and the opposite pull-up handles have rubberized grips to prevent hand slippage.

The lat machine integrated into this power cage is equipped with several nylon pulleys with ball bearings and nylon-coated steel cables. It offers a high pulley workout station and a low pulley workout station. It has a weight capacity of 360 lbs (163 kg), and features 7″ (~17 cm) weight loading pegs. It can be loaded either with 1″ Standard plates or 2″ Olympic plates as a set of Olympic peg adapters is included.

In terms of other accessories, this power cage includes a set of J-hooks, a lat bar and a short row bar. A set of 1″ spring collars is also included. However, 2″ collars or clips for the Olympic peg adapters are not included.

Workout stations

The Fitness Reality X-Class 2868 power cage offers five distinct workout stations. These are:

The power cage itself. Due to the 25 attachment positions for the safety bars, this unit provides the possibility to safely execute a variety of heavy lifting exercises, such as squats, bent-over rows, shrugs or deadlifts.

Pull-up/Chin-up station. As we’ve mentioned above, the top frame bar of the power cage features a long pull-up bar with curved grips, and a set of pull-up handles for parallel grip pull-ups. Both the handles and the pull-up bar have a weight capacity of 600 lbs (272 kg), which means you can perform weighted exercises with no problem.

Dip station. This strength training system includes a set of dip handles which can be attached to each one of the long safety bars. Each safety bar provides 13 attachment positions for the dip handles which enables the dip station to accommodate a wide range of users. Plus, since the dip handles attach to a safety bar, you can also select the most suitable height for them.

High pulley station. This workout station offers the possibility to execute a wide array of lat pull-down exercises. A 44″ (~112 cm) lat bar with curved grips and a rubberized surface is included with the unit.

Low pulley station. Needless to say, the lat machine is also equipped with a low pulley for the execution of seated rows, stand-up curls or other exercises. A short bar with thick foam handles is included for this workout station.

Weight Resistance System

The lat machine integrated into this strength training system does not have its own weight stack like the Body-Solid GLA378 lat attachment included with the GPR378 power cage. Its slider features two 1″ pegs, each one being 7″ (~17 cm) long. As we’ve mentioned above, Olympic plate adapters are also included. Each weight loading peg can fit at least three 45 lbs (20.4 kg) weight plates, while the whole weight capacity of the unit is 360 lbs (163 kg).

The weight ratio of the lat machine is not specified. But according to several reports from users, it’s between 2:1 and 1:1. It definitely delivers plenty of weight resistance for a consistent workout.

Assembly and Maintenance

Like most home gyms, the Fitness Reality X-Class 2868 power rack with its lat pull-down machine comes in several boxes. It requires full assembly, which may take at least a few hours. However, the assembly is not as complicated as for a gym system like the Body-Solid Fusion 500, for example. Plus, the manual provides very clear assembly instructions.

The tools required for the assembly are not included. You will need two of adjustable wrenches, a set of Allen wrenches, a Phillips screwdriver and a rubber mallet.

For maintenance, it is recommended to periodically lubricate the upright guide bar of the lat machine, for a smoother travel of the gliding element. It’s also recommended to periodically inspect the machine, check for loose bolts, broken parts etc., in order to remedy any problem that can lead to an accident.
