The ECHANFIT Smart Series 1903 is a light-capacity exercise bike made for spin workouts. Although the “Smart Series” term may suggest online connectivity, the bike does not have Bluetooth, nor it is compatible with any online fitness apps; its console is a pretty basic fitness meter. But nonetheless, it still tracks the important workout metrics.

Frame construction
The ECHANFIT 1903 features a steel frame but has a slightly different construction than most spin bikes. It can be compared to the Body Xtreme BXF024. It is essentially a triangular frame, but with the main bar and the front fork slightly curved for improved sturdiness and aesthetics.
The bike also has several ABS plastic components, but these shouldn’t diminish its overall sturdiness as their role is protective only. The most notable ones are the belt cover and the magnetic brake cover. All steel tubes in the bike’s frame are coated with a corrosion-resistant paint finish. The color used is black, this being the only color available for this model.
The fully assembled bike doesn’t take too much space. It is approx. 40″ long (~ 100 cm), and 28″ wide (71 cm), its widest point being the rear base stabilizer. Also, the bike’s highest point (with the handlebar fully extended) is 51.1″ (130 cm). Although it has a pretty small footprint, it still is recommended to leave at least two feet of clearance all around it for ease of access.
The bike’s fairly light compared to other spin bikes. It weighs approx. 57 lbs (25.8 kg). This being said, it weighs quite a bit more than the average road bike and has a low center of gravity for improved stability. But on the other hand, it is not extremely heavy like the pooboo C590 for example, so it can be carried and assembled by only one person. Once it is assembled, it can easily be relocated via the wheels integrated into its front base bar.
Seat and handlebars
The ECHANFIT Smart Series 1903 is equipped with a standard bike saddle. Its top is made of durable, yet flexible polyurethane material and integrates a thin layer of padding. It is a bit wider than the average race seat so it provides extra contact surface. Its top is contoured with a central groove for improved breathability.
Like any other standard bike saddle, the one included with this ECHANFIT bike has a collar-based attachment system. This means it can easily be replaced if needed, as there are many compatible options available. This also means you can slightly tilt it forward or backward.
The bike’s seat is four-way adjustable (up, down, front, back). Its upright post offers approx. 11″ (28 cm) of adjustment, from 30.7″ to 41.7″ (78 – 106 cm) above floor level. Also, its horizontal slider adds approx. 3.3″ (8.3 cm) of front to back adjustment. Therefore, the bike should be able to accommodate users between 4’8″ and 6’3″ (142 – 190 cm). It is also durable enough to support users up to 250 lbs (113 kg).
The bike’s handlebar only offers two-way adjustability (up, down), so, unlike the seat, it does not have a front to back adjustment slider. Its adjustment span is approx. 4″ (10 cm), between 47.2″ and 51.18″ (120 – 130 cm) above floor level. Also, the handlebar attaches directly to the upright bar via two screws so you cannot adjust its angle.
The handlebar offers a multi-grip design. It allows a standard grip, an off-road grip, and a climbing grip. It also has a loop bar at the center which you can use for a close parallel grip. The side grips are covered by a layer of rubber foam material for improved comfort. However, there are no pulse sensors and the console cannot track pulse.
Resistance and drive
The ECHANFIT 1903 indoor cycling trainer is equipped with a manual magnetic resistance system. This means it does not require an adapter or an external power source to make available the adjustment. Also, it cannot adjust the resistance automatically like the NordicTrack S15i Studio Cycle, for example.
The bike’s resistance system consists of a magnetic brake attached to the tension knob on top of the main bar of the bike. By turning the knob clockwise, the brake moves closer to the flywheel. This leads to an increased magnetic pull and an increased pedaling difficulty. The knob can also be pressed down completely in order to stop the flywheel from spinning.
The bike’s resistance system doesn’t have pre-determined levels. But as a general idea, it offers a resistance range between 25W and 370W. So, the lowest levels of resistance are insignificant, given only by the inertia of the flywheel. Conversely, the highest resistance level delivers quite a bit of difficulty simulating a hill climb.
Like most other magnetic resistance bikes, the ECHANFIT 1903 features a belt drive system. Therefore, it provides a very smooth pedaling motion and eliminates the need to lubricate its transmission. Also, the flywheel isn’t extremely heavy. It weighs 28 lbs (12.7 kg), but most of its weight is placed in its perimeter for enhanced inertia. It is bi-directional, so you can pedal in reverse if you want to diversify your training.
The bike is equipped with a standard 3-piece crankset. The crank arms are a bit shorter than the average length of road bikes, but they’re still 5.91″ (~150 mm) long, so the pedaling stride is long enough to provide a consistent workout. The pedals are metallic (aluminum alloy) as well. They’re equipped with adjustable straps, but do not have SPD clips for spin shoes. They have standard 9/16″ threads. They’re also durable enough to support users up to 250 lbs (113 kg) while standing up during cycling.
Console
As we’ve mentioned above, the bike’s console is rather basic. It doesn’t have preset programs, nor it has online connectivity. It is similar to the console of the Tunturi B40 upright bike. It features an LCD display that tracks time, distance, total distance, calories, and speed. It doesn’t have a pulse reading function and the bike does not have any pulse sensors.
The console has three buttons. These are Mode, Set, and Reset. The Mode button allows you to select any of the workout metrics that you want to view on the display. You can also select the Scan Mode which automatically rotates all the metrics showing each one for a few seconds.
The Set button offers the possibility to select goals for time, distance, and calories burned. If a goal is selected, the display will indicate the remaining amount until you reach zero and complete your goal. The Reset button pretty much speaks for itself. It allows you to clear all the values on the console to zero.
The console is battery powered. It starts up when you begin pedaling or when you press one of the buttons. It has a self turn off function and will automatically shut down after a few minutes of inactivity on the bike. It also integrates a tablet holder which is placed below the buttons and can accommodate your phone or tablet. However, the console does not have any USB or AUX ports to connect your device to it.
Assembly and Maintenance
Most of the bike’s frame comes pre-assembled. The flywheel, the belt, the crankset, and the magnetic brake are already attached to the frame. You only have to add the two base bars, the seat post, the seat, the handlebar post, the handlebar, the pedals, and the console. This shouldn’t take more than 30-40 minutes of your time. The included manual provides clear assembly instructions and a basic toolkit is also included.
Once the bike is assembled, maintenance doesn’t require much. Its transmission doesn’t need lubrication. You only have to keep the unit clean, and periodically check for loose parts.
