As opposed to the P1X model, the P2X also includes cable fly arms offering the possibility to perform several fly exercises.

Frame construction, parts, and accessories

Like most cable fitness machines, the Powerline P2X is made of steel tubing. But as opposed to other models, such as the BSG10X or the GS1, for example, its frame is made of ovalized tubing. Thus, it has a more aesthetic design. All the steel parts feature a silver finish coating, resistant to corrosion.

With the leg press attached, this home gym machine is fairly large. It takes 71″L x 66″W (180 x 168 cm) of floor space. And of course, in order to be able to operate it safely and without any hindrance, it is important to leave at least two feet of clearance all around it. This being said, the P2X with the PLPX attachment would require a 95″ x 90″ (241 x 229 cm) workout area.

The machine’s height is 83″ (211 cm). This being said, it should fit in a room with a 7′ ceiling. But it would be a very tight fit.

When fully assembled, and with the leg press attached, this fitness machine is considerably heavy. It weighs over 390 lbs. This means it offers excellent stability during all exercises. However, due to its weight, it may damage your floors. Therefore, it’s recommended to assemble it and use it on a rubberized mat.

Both the P2X and PLPX leg press attachment are equipped with fixed seats. Both seats integrate 2″ (5 cm) of padding to provide optimal comfort for all the seated exercises. Their upholstery is made of a durable vinyl material, designed to last for many years of use.

The seat and the backrest on the P2X machine are both adjustable. The seat offers a few inches of height adjustment, while the backrest can move forward or backward for a few inches. Conversely, the leg press attachment only has an adjustable backrest, which can be locked in place closer or farther in relation to the press plates.

This Body-Solid Powerline home gym machine features a “no cable change” design. In other words, it includes cables for all pulleys, so once you have assembled it, you won’t need to swap cables from a set of pulleys to another, in order to perform certain exercises. However, the grips, handles and strap accessories do require relocation, depending on the exercises you want to perform.

The home gym’s cables spun steel ropes, tested for over 2,000 lbs of tension. They’re also covered by a thin sheet of heavy-duty PVC for a smoother glide over the pulleys. The pulleys are all made of heavy-duty nylon material, integrating stainless steel, sealed ball bearings for a long lifespan and smooth operation. They have a standard design; thus, in case one of them breaks or becomes severely worn out, compatible replacements are widely available.

The machine’s leg attachment is equipped with 4″ foam rollers in order to deliver the required amount of comfort for all the leg exercises. Also, the machine is equipped with a knee-stopper bar which can be useful when you perform lat pulldowns with a very heavy load. This bar also has similar foam rollers as the leg developer attachment.

In terms of accessories, this machine comes with the lat pulldown bar, the short row bar, and two pivoting cable handles. Ankle strap and ab harness are optional accessories, not included with the machine.

Workout stations

This Powerline home gym is quite a versatile model. It integrates 6 main workout stations, 7 in total with the included leg press station. Here’s a short description of each one.

Leg press station. This is the PLPX attachment, which in this case is included with the P2X home gym. However, the P2X is also available without it. This attachment features a steel frame similar to the rest of the machine, and a seat with an adjustable backrest. Its ratio is 2:1, which means that with the included 160 lbs (72.5 kg) weight stack it will generate a weight resistance of 320 lbs (145 kg).

Lat pulldown station. This is an indispensable element in the construction of home gym system of this type, required for the development of shoulder, triceps and back muscles. It integrates a standard, curved, detachable lat bar, with rubberized grips. Also, in case you’re wondering, the pulley of this station is high enough to allow users up to 6’5″ (195 cm) to perform a complete range of motion during lat pulldowns, if the seat is adjusted to the lowest position.

Chest press station. This workout station features a multi-grip design, offering the possibility to perform presses with three types of grips. It’s designed for the development of the pectoral and shoulder muscles.

Cable fly station. This workout station is the extra addition over the P1X model. It consists of an element with two metallic arms which extend one on each side of the P2X machine. They’re equipped with pulleys and cables, and by attaching the handles to them you can perform several fly exercises.

Mid pulley station. Although this station basically consists of a pulley integrated into the main vertical bar of the frame, it is quite a plus, as it allows the execution of several extra exercises. For example, it gives you the possibility to perform ab crunches by using an ab harness (not included), or triceps extensions.

Low pulley station. The Powerline P2X doesn’t offer a mobile seat with rollers for complete rowing exercises, such as the Bowflex Blaze, for example. However, since it has a low pulley station you can perform seated rows, as well as other exercises which involve the low pulley, such as biceps curls.

Leg developer station. This workout station allows the execution of exercises such as leg extensions, leg cable curls, or standing biceps curls. Evidently, the attachment features consistently padded rollers, to offer the required comfort for leg extensions.

Weight Resistance

An important aspect regarding the Powerline P2X home gym system is that it comes with a metallic alloy weight stack. These weight plates are considerably more durable than vinyl plates, and that’s one of the reasons this machine costs a bit more than one with vinyl plates, such as the Marcy MWM-6150, for example.

The machine’s included plate stack weighs 160 lbs (72.5 kg), featuring weight plates of 10 lbs (4.5 kg) each. This means the adjustment increments are done in 10 lbs.

The weight stack is upgradable, though. It allows the addition of 5 extra plates (50 lbs), offering a total weight resistance of 210 lbs (95.2 kg). These being said, this fitness machine is perfect for beginners and intermediate users. However, powerlifters may require a model with a much heavier stack.

A set of weight stickers is supplied with the machine, and they’re supposed to be placed on the plates in ascending order, top-to-bottom. The weight adjustment system is simple. You insert a pin into the plate with the desired weight.

Possible Exercises

The Body-Solid Powerline P2X with the PLPX leg press attachment offers the possibility to perform more than 40 gym-quality exercises. Among them, we can count:

  • Vertical grip chest presses
  • Horizontal grip chest presses
  • Incline chest presses
  • Cable pec fly presses
  • High cable cross-overs
  • Lat pulldowns
  • Seated rows
  • Shrugs
  • Seated triceps extensions
  • Triceps press downs
  • Triceps extensions
  • Kneeling triceps extensions
  • Standing biceps curls
  • Concentration curls
  • Deltoid raises

  • Oblique crunches
  • Standing leg curls
  • Leg extensions
  • Leg abductions
  • Leg adductions
  • Leg presses
  • Glute kickbacks
  • … and more.

Before we move on to the next section of this post, there still are two important aspects to mention here. First of all, it doesn’t have a long bench like other machines; thus, you cannot perform standard leg curls. However, you can do standing up one leg curls using an ankle strap and the low pulley station.

Evidently, the machine’s backrest doesn’t recline, so you won’t be able to perform incline/decline presses.

Assembly and Maintenance

The machine comes in 5 boxes, 3 for the P2X, 1 for the weight stack and 1 for the leg press attachment. Since the boxes are rather heavy and some of the parts are large, it’s recommended that the assembly is done by two people.

The included manual provides step-by-step assembly instructions. However, due to the many parts that require being put together, the process will take several hours. The tools required for assembly are not included. You will need a Phillips screwdriver, a set of Allen keys, two adjustable wrenches (6″, 8″), and a rubber mallet.

For maintenance, a periodic check for loose bolts and parts is recommended. Also, the guide rods, linear rods, and pulleys may require lubrication. It’s recommended to apply a bit of multi-purpose lubricant on them during this assembly. Also, if any parts sustain damage, they should be replaced before re-using the machine, to avoid accidents.

Summary

The Powerline P2X is a sturdy home gym system equipped a 160 lbs metallic weight plate stack, which is upgradable to 210 lbs. The P2X itself integrates 6 workout stations, but the model presented here also includes the leg press PLPX attachment. It’s a machine for beginners and intermediate users, offering the possibility to perform more than 40 exercises. It’s not exactly an affordable home gym set, but considering its versatility and the fact that it comes with a metallic weight plate stack, we can safely say it has a decent price/value ratio.
