Cable crossover stations are extremely versatile fitness machines. Even the most restrictive ones offer the possibility to perform a wide array of exercises. And one of the most important aspects is that some of them use Olympic and / or Standard weight plates, leaving a lot of room for weight adjustment and increments. One of crossovers of this type is the PowerLine PCCO90X.
This training machine is actually sold under Body Solid, just like the EXM1500S home gym, and GDCC200 model. It’s one of the affordable models, which also benefits from a nice discount at the moment.

Frame and parts
The first aspect that requires mentioning here is the machine’s weight capacity. First of all, the maximum user weight is not specified anywhere. But, as long as you don’t use the top, transversal bar of the machine for exercises such as chin-ups for example, it doesn’t really matter how much you weigh. However, the top bar isn’t extremely solid, and may bend or result in stability issues with users heavier than 200 lbs (91 kg). Therefore, in case you weigh more than this, chin-ups are not recommended.
On the other hand, when it comes to the load of weight plates, each side can actually hold up to 400 lbs (181.4 kg). However, in case you’re going to load this much on both sides, and use both cables and low pulleys, the legs of the machine may bow inward. Therefore, of you’re going to use both cables, it’s best not to exceed 200 lbs (90.7 kg) on each side. This is actually the maximum recommended weight.
Evidently, the machine’s frame is made of steel tubing, pretty sturdy, featuring bases with rubber stabilizers. The top bar, the bases, and the mobile parts which hold the weights are coated with gray paint. The side bars feature a chrome finish.
The machine has a footprint of 112″L x 39″W (284.4 x 99 cm), and it’s 82″ (208 cm) tall, which means it should fit in a room with a 7′ ceiling. Given these aspects, the machine can accommodate users up to 6’5″ (195.5 cm) comfortably. Of course, taller users should also be able to use the machine for a wide array of exercises, but may have to improvise a bit, for certain exercises, such as pulldowns, or chin-ups.
Overall, the machine is not extremely heavy, weighing approx. 108 lbs (49 kg).
The PowerLine PCCO90X is equipped with a set of 8 large diameter, high-density resin pulleys, which integrate sealed ball bearings for maximum durability. The top and bottom pulleys are fixed. In other words, you can’t adjust their height on the side bars. However, they’re designed to swivel 180° on their axis, in order to supply all the required comfort for your exercises.
A set of two steel cables is also included with the machine. The cables feature a PVC sheet over them, in order to supply a smoother gliding over the pulleys.
The mobile frame parts which hold the weight plates feature nylon bushings and should glide smoothly on the vertical bars. A silicone lubricant spray is also supplied with the machine, lubricant which is supposed to be applied on the bars, and / or the insides of the mobile frame parts, in order to ease their gliding motion.
Accessories
The only accessories supplied with this PowerLine crossover machine are two cable handles, and one ankle strap. The handles are made of stainless steel, with a chrome finish, featuring rubber-foam grips to prevent any damage to the hands during prolonged workout sessions. The ankle strap is pretty simple, padded with synthetic wool.
Optional accessories
Chin-up bar station. This actually consists of two handles which attach to the cross bar of the machine.
Weight plates. The machine doesn’t include any. You can either use your own, or opt for a set of weight plates to be delivered with the machine.
Triceps rope. This is a pretty common and cheap accessory. Pretty much speaks for itself.
Olympic adapter sleeves. These are 14″ long, and 2″ thick, designed for a heavier load of Olympic weight plates.
Weight Resistance System
As we’ve mentioned above, the machine doesn’t come with a set of weight plates. You will have to use the ones that you already own, or order a set as well. The pegs that hold the weight plates are 8.5″ (21.5 cm) long on each side, and 1″ (2.5 cm) thick. This means they can hold both Standard and Olympic weight plates. But since Olympic weight plates feature 2″ (5 cm) holes, they may rattle a bit during exercises.
Each side can support up to 400 lbs (181 kg) of weight plates. But loading up this amount on each side is not viable for crossover exercises, as the side bars of the machine may bow inward. Also, if you plan on using this amount of weight, it’s best to anchor the bases of the frame to the floor. The recommended maximum weight load for each side is 200 lbs (90.7 kg).
Possible Exercises
The PowerLine PCCO90X by Body-Solid covers most of the exercises that can be performed on a crossover machine. You can actually do more than 50 exercises. As a general idea, some of them are:
- Chin-ups
- Stand-up rows
- Kneeling rows
- Seated rows
- Shotgun rows
- Cable crunches
- Cable crunches with side bends
- Cable curls
- Reverse cable curls
- Twist curls
- Pec flies
- Reverse (back) flies
- Chest presses
- Shoulder presses
- Stand-up low pulley deltoid presses
- Lat pulldowns
- Low cable crossovers
- Pallof presses
- Overhead cable curls
- Triceps extensions
- Triceps pushdowns
- Shrugs

- Squats
- Standing leg lifts
- Cable split squats

- Hip adductions
- … and more.
When it comes to chin-ups or pull-ups, these can be done by simply using the crossover bar of the frame. However, since it’s a square tube, it doesn’t offer a very comfortable grip. Specific chin-up handles are available, but not included with the machine. Also, as we’ve mentioned above, the crossover bar of the frame is not made of a very thick gauge steel, thus it’s not recommended to try up chin-ups on the bar, if you weigh more than 200 lbs.
Needless to say, the machine can be used with a bench. Of course, a bench is not included, but using one (or even a simple chair) will consistently diversify the possible exercises that can be performed.
The machine doesn’t come with an exercise chart. However, you can either go with the one’s we’ve enumerated above, or search online for crossover exercises. Most of them can be performed on the PCCO90X with no problem, except for the ones that would require a middle pulley.
Assembly and Maintenance
First of all, the tools required for the assembly of this machine are not included. You will need a standard or metric wrench set, or an adjustable wrench, an Allen wrench set, and a Phillips screwdriver. The assembly is not complicated, and a manual that will guide you through it is supplied. The whole process shouldn’t last more than one hour.
Maintenance requires the lubrication of the side bars with the silicone spray supplied, so that the gliding parts of the frame will move smoothly on them. Also, in case the pulleys begin to squeak, some lubrication may solve the problem.
