The OVICX Flex treadmill is one of the fitness machines released in 2021. It’s similar in terms of features to the OVICX Q2S that we’ve already reviewed here. However, it offers a smaller running surface and its console features a slightly different design.

Frame construction

The OVICX Flex treadmill features a steel frame construction. Its base frame is made of rectangular steel, while the two upright bars that sustain the console are ovalized. All the steel parts are coated with a durable paint finish, highly resistant to corrosion and chipping. The base frame is painted black, while the two upright bars have a gray paint finish.

The machine also integrates several plastic parts. The most notable ones are the side rail covers, the motor cover, the console base frame, and the handrails. Most of them are also black, the only exception is the motor cover which is gray.

OVICX Flex treadmill is not a large one. It is approx. 53.14″ (135 cm) long, and 24.4″ (62 cm) wide, while the console reaches approx. 45.27″ (115 cm) above the floor. It is also recommended to allow at least a few feet of clearance on each side of the machine, and at the rear of the running area for safe usage and easy access.

The treadmill is foldable. It can be stored in a vertical position or flat on the floor. When folded flat, it is approx 9″ (23 cm) so it can actually fit under a bed or couch that’s not too low to the floor. Its front base is equipped with two folding feet, so if you want to store it vertically, you don’t need to lean it against a wall.

The machine is not super heavy. Its net weight is approx. 88 lbs (40 kg), so it can be carried, unboxed, and unfolded by only one person, but it’s recommended that this task is done by two people. Once it is assembled, it can easily be moved by only one person as its front base frame has a set of wheels.

Deck construction

The OVICX Flex treadmill doesn’t have an incline system. It also isn’t recommended to improvise in any way to incline its deck. The height of the running belt is approx. 5.5″ (14 cm), so ceiling height shouldn’t be a problem.

Since it’s a rather small treadmill, the OVICX Flex doesn’t offer a super large running surface. Its active area is only 41.75″ (106 cm) long, and 15.95″ (40 cm) wide. This being said, it may not be the best choice for runners taller than 6’0″ (183 cm). It is also rated for a maximum user weight limit of 265 lbs (120 kg), which is not bad for a small treadmill model.

The machine’s deck rests on four “silkworm” floor stabilizers which double-up as shock absorption elements for the treadmill. They’re made from a heavy-duty, high-density foam material. They not only reduce the impact of the ride and the vibration generated by each foot strike, they also prevent floor damage and add superior stability to the machine. Plus, the internal deckboard has a bit of flex as well which adds to the overall shock absorption.

The running belt equipped on the OVICX Flex treadmill features a multi-layer construction. Its top layer is rubberized and textured in order to provide a superior grip for any type of running footwear. The exact diameter of the rollers that set the belt in motion is not specified. But they integrate high-grade ball bearings for a smooth belt motion. The side covers of the running platform feature a textured surface for improved foot stability.

Drive motor

The OVICX Flex treadmill is a motorized, electric fitness machine. Therefore, you will need to connect it to an external power source. It comes with a power cord featuring a U.S. standard plug. The connector for the power cord is at the front of the machine. There is also an On/Off switch on the motor’s casing.

The unit’s motor offers a peak power of 3.0 HP. Although it doesn’t offer the duty of a commercial-grade treadmill motor, it should still be able to perform without overheating or losing performance for at least a few hours. It is recommended, though, to pause it for at least 10 minutes after every two hours of continuous use.

The motor offers a speed range of 0.1 – 9.0 MPH. The speed adjustment increments are 0.1 MPH so you can easily adapt your pace when adjusting the speed. The console features controls only for gradual speed adjustment. It does not have pre-set speed adjustment controls. It also does not have the “walk/run” quick adjustment system of the OVICX X3 model.

The machine’s motor is pretty quiet. It doesn’t generate too much noise even if you crank the speed all the way up to 9.0 MPH. However, depending on your running form, your weight, running gear, and other factors, your cadence may generate more or less noise.

Finally, since the unit’s motor is a 3.0 HP one, its power consumption is around 2.2 kW per hour. This being said, even if you use it every day, it shouldn’t put more than a few bucks on your monthly electricity bill.

Console and accessories

The OVICX Flex treadmill is equipped with a pretty basic console. It features an LED display that tracks time, speed, distance, calories, and pulse. Speed and distance are shown in MPH and miles; there is no option for changing them to metric units. The pulse reading function is contact only. The unit can only read your pulse if you touch the metallic sensors on each side of the display.

The console does not have pre-set workout programs or workout target settings for calories, distance, etc. It only has controls for gradual speed adjustment (+ / -), and a Start/Stop button. However, it is compatible with the OVICX app. This app is free, available in the Apple app store and Google Play.

The OVICX app is easy to install. A QR code is included with the treadmill, so you only need to scan it with your phone. The app allows you to control the speed of the treadmill from your phone, track your workout data online, complete challenges, and more. It’s also important to mention here that the connection between your phone is done via Bluetooth. The treadmill does not connect to a WiFi hotspot.

In terms of accessories, the most notable one included with this OVICX treadmill is the device holder. This attaches to the top section of the console dashboard. It is made from a thermoplastic polymer and large enough to accommodate most tablets or phones.

Assembly and Maintenance

The OVICX Flex treadmill comes pre-assembled. You only have to remove it from the box, unfold it, connect the power cable, and the tablet holder. The belt may require some adjustment and a set of hex wrenches are included for it.

For maintenance, the belt requires periodic lubrication. A bottle of silicone oil is included with the machine and the manual provides pretty clear lubrication guidelines. The belt should also be kept clean to prevent any textile fibers or debris from being caught into the motor or into the rollers. Other than this, it is recommended to periodically inspect the machine, to make sure that all the parts still hold tight in their places, and all the moving parts function properly.
