However, it has a manual resistance system (not motorized) and does not have pre-set workout programs. But on the other hand, it comes with a set of resistance bands.

Frame construction and accessories

The Exerpeutic 4119 is an X-type folding exercise bike. Its frame consists of two main pieces. The largest piece features two parallel bars and holds the handlebar and the fitness monitor. The other piece holds the drive mechanism and the seat.

Needless to say, the bike’s frame is made of steel tubing. It combines oval, rectangular, and cylindrical tubes in its construction. All the steel tubes are double-coated with a corrosion-resistant paint finish. The main color used is black, this being the only color available for this bike, at least for the moment. The casing of the drive system is made of durable thermoplastic material with a transparent cover at the top which makes the flywheel visible.

Similar to other X-bikes, the Exerpeutic 4119 is not a large fitness machine. With the frame unfolded, it is approx. 37.5″ (95 cm) long, and 22″ (56 cm) wide, while its highest point reaches approx. 47.5″ (121 cm) above the floor. It is recommended, though, to leave a clearance of at least two feet all around the bike, for ease of access and safe usage.

With the frame folded, the bike’s dimensions are 24″L x 22″W x 57.5″H (61 x 56 x 146 cm). The unit is fairly light; it weighs only 46.2 lbs (21 kg), so it can be carried and assembled with ease by only one person. Also, once it is assembled, it is even easier to move as its front base integrates transport wheels.

In terms of accessories, the bike is equipped with two resistance bands for arm exercises. They have standard D-handles and pass through a set of small pulleys attached to the bike’s frame. They offer the possibility to execute several arm exercises while on the bike.

Seat and handlebars

The Exerpeutic 4119 upright exercise bike is equipped with an extra-large seat, approx. 14.5″ (36.8 cm) wide. It integrates 2.75″ of AirSoft foam cushioning so it provides fairly decent comfort and contact surface. It has a vinyl mesh top cover which provides extra breathability, also being easy to maintain.

The seat’s shell is made of durable nylon material. It attaches to a triangular metallic plate via three screws. The seat assembly is two-way adjustable (up, down). Its post has 5 adjustment holes. The bike can accommodate users between 5’0″ and 6’3″ (153 – 190 cm). Taller persons should still be able to use this bike, but they may not benefit from a complete leg extension. It is also rated for a maximum user weight limit of 300 lbs (136 kg).

The bike’s handlebars are similar to the ones included with the LifePro X-FlexCycle Pro. They have a multi-grip design. They offer the possibility to adopt a close grip, a parallel grip, and a climbing grip. The insert into the two long parallel tubes of the frame and secure via four screws, so the whole handlebar assembly is pretty sturdy.

The handlebar is non-adjustable. It is fully covered by a layer of PVC foam for an improved grip. Its side grips feature metallic pulse sensors and the included fitness monitor has a pulse reading function.

Resistance system

The Exerpeutic 4119 exercise bike is equipped with a manual magnetic resistance system. It does not require an adapter or an external power source. However, since the resistance system is manual (mechanical), the bike cannot adjust the resistance automatically, like the 575 XLS model.

The bike’s resistance system consists of a magnetic brake attached under the flywheel. It connects to the tension knob at the top front of the bike through a steel cable. When you turn the knob clockwise, the brake moves closer to the flywheel which results in a higher pedaling difficulty. Conversely, when you turn the knob to the left, the magnets move away from the flywheel which reduces the workout load.

The magnetic resistance system is superior to a standard friction resistance system as the brake does not touch the flywheel. Thus, the pedaling motion is seamless and the usage of the bike is very quiet. There is also virtually no wear-and-tear on the brake.

The bike’s resistance system makes available 8 settings. The first few levels of resistance deliver a fairly low pedaling difficulty, great for recovery training. Conversely, the 8th level of resistance offers a distinguishably higher workout load, great for anyone who wants to improve strength and stamina, and burn more calories.

Drive system

The Exerpeutic 4119 upright bike is equipped with a dual belt drive system. It integrates two transmission belts and two pulleys (one that’s part of the crankset, the other is intermediary). This type of drive construction adds consistency to the ride. Also, since the bike uses belts, not chains, you don’t need to worry about their lubrication.

The internal flywheel has a balanced structure in order to provide a smooth pedaling motion and a consistent momentum. It’s not super-heavy; its exact weight is not specified, but since the bike weighs only 46.2 lbs (21 kg), the flywheel probably doesn’t weigh more than 10 lbs (4.5 kg).

The flywheel is bi-directional. In other words, you can pedal in reverse, if you want. When pedaling in reverse, the resistance remains constant, given by the selected tension level. Also, it’s important to add here that coasting on the bike is not possible.

The bike is equipped with a durable crankset featuring oval steel crank arms similar to road bikes. The included pedals are fairly large, with a textured surface and adjustable straps for improved foot stability. They are also weighted in order to self-level when you remove your feet from them.

Fitness monitor

The Exerpeutic 4119 exercise bike includes a pretty basic fitness monitor, without built-in workout programs. It features an LCD display (without backlight) that tracks time, distance, total distance, speed, calories, and pulse. Speed is shown in miles per hour, distance is shown in miles. There is no option for metric units. The odometer function (total distance) can record a maximum of 999.9 miles traveled.

The unit’s pulse reading function is grip contact only. The unit cannot monitor your pulse if you wear a wireless transmitter. It can only track your pulse if you hold on to the sensors integrated into the handlebar.

Although the monitor unit does not have pre-set programs, it has Bluetooth connectivity and is compatible with the MyCloudFitness app. The has a free version and a paid version. The free version allows you to track your progress online and set goals for time, distance, and calories burned. The paid version offers access to training videos and scenic rides.

The monitor unit is easy to use. It only has one button. By pressing the button, you can scroll through the workout metrics and select the one you want to view. There is also a Scan Mode that rotates all the metrics showing each one for 6 seconds. Also, if you press and hold the button for a few seconds, you can reset all the data to zero, except the odometer.

The unit is battery-powered. It requires two AAA batteries which are included. It starts recording your workout data when you begin pedaling or when you press the button. It also automatically turns off after a few minutes of inactivity on the bike.

Assembly and Maintenance

The main body of the bike comes pre-assembled. You only need to attach the two base bars, the seat post, the seat, the pedals, the handlebars, the resistance bands, and the fitness monitor. This may take more than an hour, but the process is not too difficult. Plus, the manual provides clear, step-by-step assembly instructions and all the required tools are included.

For maintenance, you only have to keep the bike clean, wipe the sweat droplets that may fall on the frame at the end of the workout, and periodically inspect the bike to make sure all its parts hold tight in their places and function properly. The internal mechanism does not require lubrication.
