The MKHS 003 is one of the indoor cycling bikes released in 2021. In terms of design, it can be compared with the HARISON X6 bike or the VIGBODY HL-M01. However, it features a magnetic resistance system and lacks a fitness monitor unit.

Frame construction

The MKHS 003 indoor cycle features a triangular frame made of thick oval steel tubing. All the steel parts in its construction are coated with a rust-resistant and chip-resistant paint finish. The main color used is black, this being the only color available for this model. The only exception is the flywheel which is chrome plated with side ABS panels.

The bike is not too large. Its net footprint is 38.1″L x 19.9″W (97 x 50 cm). However, with the seat extended all the way to the back and with the handlebar at its highest position, the bike gains approx. 5″ (12.7 cm) in length. Also, its highest point is 48″ (~122 cm). These being said, a usage area for it of at least 70″L x 70″ (178 x 178 cm) should suffice.

The bike isn’t super heavy either. Its net weight is only 60 lbs (27 kg). Therefore, it can be carried and assembled by only one person. Plus, once it is assembled, it can easily be moved as its front base features a set of small wheels.

Both base stabilizers of the bike have adjustable levelers with large rubber pads for an improved grip on the floor. Also, the bike has a pretty low center of gravity. Thus, it shouldn’t move or wobble even if you engage in the most demanding spinning workouts.

Seat and handlebars

The MKHS 003 indoor cycling bike comes with a four-way adjustable seat (up, down, front, back). Its upright post offers approx. 8″ (20.3 cm) of adjustability while its horizontal slider adds 3″ (7.6 cm) of front to back adjustment. The applicable user inseam range for this bike is 28″ – 36″ (71 – 91 cm). Thus, it should be able to accommodate users between 5’1″ and 6’4″ (155 – 193 cm). It is also durable enough to support users up to 400 lbs (181.4 kg).

The saddle features an internal nylon shell while its top section integrates a layer of padding while the cover layer is made of high-density foam. The saddle is contoured and has suspensions at the rear to adapt better to your movement. Also, its attachment system is standard, collar-type which makes it easy to replace, while compatible options are widely available.

The bike’s handlebar is only two-way adjustable (up, down). It does not have a slider like the seat. However, its post is basically an extension of the main diagonal frame tube. Therefore, when you extend it, the distance between it and the seat increases. So, its upright and front-to-back adjustment span is approx. 4″ (10 cm).

The handlebar features a pretty standard multi-grip design. It offers the possibility to adopt a climbing grip, a cruising grip, and a close grip. It does not have pulse sensors. it is fully covered by a layer of foam material for a more comfortable grip. Also, a device holder is included with the bike, which attaches to the handlebar assembly.

Drive system

The MKHS 003 indoor cycle is equipped with a 35 lbs (15.8 kg) flywheel which has a perimeter-weighted structure. This design is meant to provide superior inertia and a more consistent momentum which is great for spinning workouts.

The flywheel is chrome-plated and has plastic protective side panels. It is bi-directional; therefore you can pedal in reverse if you want. However, coasting is not possible on this bike. So, when pedaling in reverse, you will get the same resistance as when pedaling forward.

The bike is equipped with a heavy-duty crankset. However, even though it is rated for a maximum user weight limit of 400 lbs (181.4 kg), the crankset and pedals probably won’t support all that weight. They should be able to support standing pedaling workouts for users up to 150-200 lbs (68 – 90 kg).

The pedals are made from heavy-duty nylon material with a metallic internal axis. They have adjustable straps but do not have SPD clips for spin shoes. However, their threads are standard 9/16″ so compatible options are widely available.

The bike features a belt drive system. It is equipped with a poly-v belt which provides excellent traction. Since it’s a belt, not a chain, you don’t need to lubricate it. It also generates slightly less vibration than a chain.

Resistance system

The MKHS 003 exercise bike features a manual magnetic resistance system. This being said, you don’t need an external power source or an adapter for it. But on the other hand, it doesn’t adjust the resistance automatically and does not have pre-set programs.

The main resistance elements are a magnetic brake and the tension knob attached to the main tube of the frame. The magnets are placed above the flywheel so when you adjust the resistance the distance between them and the flywheel changes. The closer they are to the flywheel, the more resistance you will get.

The magnetic brake also has a small felt pad at the front and the knob can be pushed down so you can stop the flywheel immediately if necessary. There are no tension levels marked on the knob, so you basically just turn the knob left or right until you get the desired resistance.

The main advantage of the magnetic brake is that the magnets do not touch the flywheel. Therefore, there is no drag, the pedaling motion is very smooth and quiet, and there is basically no wear-and-tear for the brake, except for the felt portion which will probably take a few years to completely wear out even if you use the bike daily.

Assembly and Maintenance

The bike’s main frame comes pre-assembled, with the crankset, belt, brake, and flywheel already attached. You only need to add the two base stabilizers, the pedals, the seat, and the handlebar. This shouldn’t take more than 20 minutes of your time. A set of basic tools is included and the manual provides clear assembly instructions.

For maintenance, you only have to keep the bike clean and periodically check for loose bolts and parts. The drive system doesn’t require lubrication.
