The ShareVgo SPB1000 is one of the under desk exercise bikes released in 2020. It has a slightly different design than the LifePro FlexCycle; it lacks the two resistance bands, while the resistance knob is attached to the metallic frame, not to the plastic casing of the drive system. Also, its rear leg has two adjustment positions.

Frame construction

The ShareVgo Portable Mini SPB1000 exercise bike features a frame made of steel tubing. It combines cylindrical, oval, and rectangular tubes in its construction. All the steel parts are coated with a corrosion-resistant paint finish. The color used for the frame is gray, this being the only color available for this bike, at least for the moment. The casing of the bike’s drive system is made of durable thermoplastic material. The side panels are green, while the top panel is black.

As we’ve mentioned above, the rear leg of the bike is adjustable. It offers two height options and can be folded forward under the bike’s body for better storage possibilities. The top section of the bike features a large handle that can also be folded. The handle has a layer of PVC foam for an improved grip.

Like any other under desk bike, the SPB1000 is not too large. Its maximum length is 27″ (69 cm); its widest point is 17″ (43 cm), while its highest point reaches approx. 24″ (61 cm) above the floor level. Needless to say, it is not super heavy. Its net weight is approx. 25 lbs (11.3 kg). Thus, it can be carried and assembled by only one person.

The bike doesn’t have adjustable levelers. Its base bars feature plastic caps with a flat bottom. Therefore, it is recommended to place and use this bike on a carpet or rubber mat, because in case the floor is uneven, it may rock when in use.

Resistance system

The ShareVgo SPB1000 portable exercise bike is equipped with a manual magnetic resistance system. This being said, you don’t need a power adapter or an external power source for it. But on the other hand, the bike cannot automatically adjust the resistance during usage.

The bike’s resistance system consists of a magnetic brake connected to the tension knob visible on top of the metallic frame via a steel cable. Therefore, when you turn the knob clockwise, the magnets move closer to the internal flywheel which increases the pedaling load. Conversely, when you turn the knob counterclockwise, the magnets move away from the flywheel which reduces the pedaling difficulty.

Needless to say, the main advantage of the magnetic resistance system is that the brake does not touch the flywheel. Thus, the pedaling motion is very smooth and quiet which makes this bike great for office use as it won’t bother your co-workers. Also, since the brake pad does not come in contact with the flywheel, the brake sustains virtually no wear-and-tear, does not need replacement or periodic lubrication.

The SPB1000 under desk bike offers 8 levels of resistance. The lowest level generates a very light pedaling difficulty, great for recovery training. Conversely, the 8th level of difficulty delivers considerably more resistance. However, since this is not exactly a spin bike, the maximum resistance is still pretty light.

Drive system

The ShareVgo SPB1000 exercise bike is equipped with a perimeter-weighted flywheel. Its exact weight is not specified, but considering that the total weight of the bike is only 25 lbs (11.3 kg), the flywheel probably doesn’t weigh more than 10 lbs (4.5 kg). Its perimeter-weighting is meant to improve the motion stability and the overall consistency of the ride. Thus, the pedaling motion is pretty smooth.

The flywheel is bi-directional. In other words, you can pedal in reverse if you want. However, coasting is not possible on this bike. The pedals continue to spin while the flywheel is spinning. Also, when pedaling in reverse, the resistance remains constant, given by the selected workout load.

The bike is equipped with a pretty sturdy crankset featuring oval steel arms. However, it’s not meant for pedaling while standing up on the pedals. That’s why there is no maximum user weight limit specified for this bike. So, the user is meant to always be seated on a chair or sofa while using this bike.

The length of the crank arms is 6″ (15.2 cm). In other words, they’re a bit shorter than the crank arms of most road bikes so the stride is not as ample. The pedals feature a metallic internal axis while the top cover is made from a durable thermoplastic material. They are not too wide so they provide a comfortable grip if you want to use the bike for arm exercises. They are equipped with adjustable straps for improved foot stability.

Last but not least, the ShareVgo SPB1000 exercise bike is equipped with a belt drive system. It integrates a poly-v belt designed for improved traction and highly resistant to stretching. This type of drivetrain comes with the advantage of not lubrication and maintenance. As opposed to a chain drive, you won’t have to take the protective panels apart to grease it. It also generates slightly less vibration than a chain.

Fitness monitor

The ShareVgo SPB1000 portable mini exercise bike is equipped with a pretty basic monitor. It features an LCD display that tracks time, speed, and distance. It has a scan function and target setting function. When in Scan Mode, it rotates the workout metrics showing each one for a few seconds. The Set button allows you to select workout targets for time and distance. Also, the Reset button clears all the values on the monitor to zero.

It’s important to mention, though, that the fitness monitor unit has Bluetooth connectivity. Therefore, you can sync it with your smartphone via the ShareVgo Fitness App available for iOS and Android systems. This app opens multiple useful features such as calorie reading, multiple workout goals and challenges, online workout data tracking, multiple user registration, intuitive results display, and more. It also has a pulse reading function but the bike does not have any type of pulse sensor. Therefore, to benefit from a pulse reading, you will have to wear a wireless HR chest strap or armband. The bike supports most single-purpose heart rate monitors.

The fitness monitor unit is battery-powered. It requires two AAA batteries. It starts up when you begin pedaling and also automatically turns off after a few minutes of inactivity on the bike. It also integrates a small shelf that can be used as a phone holder. However, it does not have any connection ports for your device, only the built-in Bluetooth connectivity.

Assembly and Maintenance

The bike’s main body with all the drive and resistance elements comes pre-assembled. Therefore, you only have to attach the front stabilizer, the rear leg, the rear stabilizer, the pedals, and the fitness monitor. This shouldn’t take more than 20-30 minutes. All the necessary tools for the task are included and the manual provides clear assembly instructions.

Once the bike is assembled, you don’t have to worry too much about maintenance. The internal components don’t need any lubrication. So, maybe the only maintenance required is re-tightening and lubrication the pedals if necessary.
