The BOTORRO R5 is one of the treadmills released in 2020. It’s a fold-flat treadmill, similar up to a point to the OVICX X3. It does not have pre-set workout programs or online connectivity but does have integrated Bluetooth speakers. Also, its handlebar assembly with the console is angle-adjustable, in order to benefit users of different sizes.

Frame construction

The BOTORRO R5 treadmill features a frame made mostly from steel tubing, with several parts made of aluminum. The main tubes in its construction are double-coated with a rust-resistant and chip-resistant paint finish. The color used is black, this being the only color available for this model, at least for the moment.

The fully set-up machine is fairly large. It is approx. 62″ (157 cm) long, and 31″ (79 cm) wide. It is recommended to allow at least two feet of clearance on each side of the deck, though, and at least three feet of clearance at the rear of the deck, for safe usage and ease of access. Also, at its highest point, with the upright bars set to their highest position, the machine’s height reaches approx. 48″ (122 cm) above floor level.

The BOTORRO R5 is a fold-flat treadmill. In other words, its upright bar assembly with the console and side grips folds all the way down over the deck. When folded flat, its height is approx. 8″ (20.3 cm). Also, the machine can be stored upright against a wall when folded.

As we’ve mentioned above, the upright bar assembly with the console and side grips, is angle-adjustable. The upright bars feature hydraulic cylinders so you can adjust the height of the console and the side grips. Thus, persons of different heights can use this machine while having the console display at a height appropriate to their size.

Last but not least, the BOTORRO treadmill is fairly heavy. It weighs approx. 114.5 lbs (52 kg), so the transport of the packaged unit requires two people. However, once it is unpacked and ready to use, it can easily be moved by only one person. Its front base features two transport wheels.

Deck construction

First of all, the BOTORRO R5 treadmill does not have an incline system. Therefore, you can only use it with the deck flat on the floor. The deck has a pretty sturdy construction. It is rated for a maximum user weight limit of 265 lbs (120 kg) which is not bad for a home-use treadmill.

The machine offers a running platform of 49.2″ (125 cm) long, and 18.1″ (46 cm) wide. This being said, it should be able to accommodate users up to 6’2″ (188 cm) with no problem. Taller persons should still be able to use this treadmill but they may not benefit from a complete range of motion when running at full speed.

The BOTORRO treadmill is equipped with a 7-layer tread belt designed to disperse and absorb shock, with a top layer made from high-density rubber featuring a textured surface for an improved grip. The deck integrates 14 cushioning elements concealed by the side rail covers. These considerably reduce the running and walking impact leading to a safer workout especially for your joints and lower back.

The internal rollers have a crowned design to prolong the lifespan of the belt and for improved traction. They integrate sealed bearings for a smooth belt motion.

The height of the belt is only approx. 5″ (13 cm) above the floor. Therefore, you shouldn’t have to worry too much about ceiling height issues. As long as the ceiling is at least 10″ (25 cm) above the height of the tallest user, everything should be okay.

Drive motor

The BOTORRO treadmill is equipped with a 2.0 HP motor, similar in power to the motor of the LifePro Electrostride treadmill. It’s not a super-powerful treadmill motor but still offers the possibility to run for a fairly long period of time without overheating. It also integrates a small flywheel for improved motion stability.

The BOTORRO R5 treadmill offers a speed range between 0.6 MPH and 9.0 MPH. The speed adjustment increments are 0.1 MPH. The console is equipped with controls for gradual speed adjustment, but also for quick speed adjustment. The quick speed selection keys are for 2 MPH, 4 MPH, 6 MPH, and 8 MPH. It’s important to mention, though, that even if you change the speed of the belt via one of the quick adjustment controls, the speed will gradually increase or decrease allowing you to easily adapt your pace.

Since the treadmill’s motor is not super powerful and only offers a peak output of 2.0 HP, its power consumption is also minimal. This being said, even if you will be using it daily, it shouldn’t add more than a few dollars to the electricity bill. Also, the motor itself doesn’t generate a lot of noise when in use, but depending on how fast you go, your cadence may generate more or less noise.

Console

The BOTORRO R5 treadmill is equipped with a pretty basic console. It does not have pre-set programs or online connectivity. It also isn’t compatible with any fitness apps. It features a LED display divided into 5 small windows that indicate (left to right) speed, time, steps, distance, and calories burned. Speed and distance are shown in MPH and miles. There is no option for setting them to km/h and kilometers. Also, the unit is not telemetric and does not have built-in pulse sensors. Therefore, if you want to keep track of your pulse during your workouts, you will have to use a separate device.

The console integrates a device holder and a set of speakers. The device holder consists of a pretty spacious compartment above the unit’s LED display, so you can place a tablet or a smartphone on it. The speakers are fairly large. They’re placed one on each side of the tablet holder. They have Bluetooth connectivity so you can sync your phone or tablet with the console and play your music through them for a better sound quality.

There are no additional ports on the console for a phone or tablet (no AUX, no USB). However, there are rewind and volume controls. Among other console features, we can mention the Start / Stop buttons, magnetic key for quickly stopping the belt, the quick speed controls, and the two bottle holders one on each side of the keypad.

Assembly and Maintenance

The BOTORRO R5 treadmill comes fully assembled and folded. So, all you need to do is unpack it, unfold it, plug it in, and you’re ready to go. This shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes of your time. The manual provides clear set-up and usage instructions.

For maintenance, you only have to keep the machine clean, especially the belt to prevent any dirt or textile fibers to be caught into the motor. As is the case for most treadmills, the belt requires periodic lubrication. Other than this, it is also recommended to periodically inspect the machine to make sure that everything is in order and all the parts still function properly.
