Frame construction
Although the pooboo D770 M-04 is not a commercial-grade bike, it features a sturdy construction with a frame similar at least to a light-commercial bike. It’s a triangular frame but with the main oblique tube slightly curved for improved aesthetics. It also has a suspended seat tube (not connected to the bottom frame), just like the other D770 models.
The bike combines oval, cylindrical, and rectangular steel tubing in its construction. All the tubes are precision-welded and coated with a corrosion-resistant paint finish. The main color used is gray, with the “pooboo” logo in white, these being the only colors available for the M-04 model. The only exception is the flywheel which is chrome-plated.
The bike also integrates several parts made of a tough thermoplastic material. Among them, we can count the cover of the drivetrain which is pretty large and also partially covers the frame, the two side panels of the flywheel, and several other small covers.
The bike is not super heavy but does weigh approx. 73.9 lbs (33.5 kg). This being said, the packaged unit may require two persons for transport, but once the unit is fully assembled, it can easily be moved by only one person because its front stabilizer is equipped with two large wheels. This pooboo indoor cycle also has a very low center of gravity which considerably improves its stability. Plus, both its base stabilizers rest on adjustable levelers.
This pooboo D77 is a bit larger than other indoor cycling bikes due to the lifting handle on its rear stabilizer. However, it’s not a super large fitness machine. It is approx. 48″ (122 cm) long, and 22″ (56 cm) wide. It is recommended, though, to leave some clearance all around it (at least two feet) for ease of access and correct usage.
Seat and handlebars
The pooboo D770 M-04 comes with a pretty standard saddle, not too slim, not too wide. Its inner shell is made of tough nylon material. Its top section is contoured, featuring a median groove for improved breathability. It also integrates a layer of foam cushioning.
The saddle has a standard, collar-based attachment system. This means it can easily be removed, if necessary, and you can find many other types of bike saddles compatible with this exercise bike in most bike shops.
The bike’s seat is four-way adjustable (up, down, front, back). Although its upright post is not too long and only has a few adjustment positions, it compensates with the horizontal slider which is pretty long. These being said, the bike should be able to accommodate comfortably users between 5’1″ and 6’4″ (155 – 193 cm) with no problem, allowing a complete leg extension. The seat assembly is also pretty durable, rated for a maximum user weight limit of 330 lbs (150 kg).
This pooboo indoor cycling bike comes with a rather simpler handlebar compared with the other models. It lacks the drop-down grips, but still offers the possibility to adopt several other grips, such as a climbing grip, a racing grip, a close parallel grip, and a standard grip. It is covered with a layer of high-density foam for improved comfort. It also integrates metallic pulse sensors.
As opposed to the seat, the bike’s handlebar only offers two-way adjustability (up, down). It lacks the horizontal slider. Its upright post only has four adjustment positions, approx. 1″ (2.5 cm) apart), so the highest handlebar point is approx. 45″ (114 cm). Also, a multi-function holder is included with the bike. This attaches to the handlebar and it can support two hydration bottles and a phone or tablet.
Drive system
Similar to the other D770 models, the M-04 is equipped with a 28.6 lbs (13 kg) flywheel. Compared to the flywheels of other spin bikes, it is not too heavy but does have a perimeter-weighted structure which improves inertia. This is a great feature for spinning as it adds consistency to the ride.
The flywheel is bi-directional. This means you can pedal in reverse if you want, with the same resistance as when pedaling forward. Coasting, on the other hand, is not possible on this bike, as is the case with most spin bikes.
The bike features a heavy-duty crankset with steel arms and metallic alloy pedals. As we’ve mentioned above, the bike is rated for a maximum user weight limit of 330 lbs (150 kg). So, as long as you don’t exceed this weight, you should be able to pedal while standing up with no problem.
The included pedals do not have SPD clips for spin shoes, but they do have toe cages with straps in case you need to secure your feet on them. Their threads are standard, 9/16″, so in case you will ever want to replace them, compatible options are widely available.
The bike is equipped with a belt drive system. It uses a poly-v belt resistant to stretching, that provides excellent traction. Since the bike uses a belt, not a chain, you don’t have to lubricate its transmission periodically. Also, the belt delivers a smooth motion, with slightly less vibration than a chain.
Resistance system
The pooboo bike D770 M-04 is equipped with a manual magnetic resistance system. This means that you don’t need a power adapter for it. But on the other hand, the bike cannot adjust the resistance automatically and does not have pre-set workout programs. It also means that the brake does not come in contact with the flywheel so the usage of the bike is whisper-quiet and drag-free.
The resistance system consists of a magnetic brake connected to the frame above the flywheel, and to the tension dial on top of the bike’s frame. When you turn this knob clockwise, the brake moves closer to the flywheel which increases the pedaling difficulty. Conversely, if you turn the knob counter-clockwise, the magnets move away from the flywheel, which reduces the pedaling load.
The bike does not have pre-determined resistance settings. You simply tighten the brake until you get the desired pedaling difficulty. But as a general idea, with the brake tightened to maximum, the pedaling difficulty is pretty high, simulating a steep climb, so even a seasoned user may not be able to maintain a steady pedaling rhythm for more than a few minutes.
The tension dial also has an emergency brake function. You can press it down to immediately stop the flywheel from spinning. This is actually recommended especially if you’ve been pedaling at a high RPM, to prevent injuries.
Fitness monitor
The pooboo D770 M-04 comes with a pretty basic fitness monitor. It features an LCD display that tracks time, distance, speed, total distance, calories, and pulse. Speed and distance are shown in MPH and miles, and there is no possibility to set them to metric units. Also, the pulse reading function is grip contact only. In other words, for the unit to read your pulse, you will have to hold on to the integrated sensors. It cannot read your pulse from a Bluetooth device or a wireless HR chest strap.
The fitness monitor unit does not have pre-set workout programs or online connectivity but does offer the possibility to set goals for your workouts, for time, distance, and calories. Once a goal is selected, it will count down from the selected value until it reaches zero.
The unit has three buttons (Mode, Set, Reset). The Mode button allows you to scroll through the workout metrics and select the one that you want to remain on the display. This way, you can also select the Scan Mode which automatically rotates all the values, showing each one for a few seconds. The Set button is for selecting workout goals. And finally, the Reset button clears all the values on the unit to zero.
The monitor unit is battery-powered. It requires two AAA batteries. It starts up when you press one of the buttons or when it detects flywheel movement. It also automatically turns off if it does not detect flywheel movement for more than four minutes.
Assembly and Maintenance
The main body of this indoor cycling bike comes pre-assembled. The flywheel, the crankset, the brake, and the drivetrain are already attached. You only need to connect the two base stabilizers, the lifting handle, the pedals, the seat post, the saddle, the handlebar post, the handlebar, the fitness monitor, and the device holder. This shouldn’t take more than 40-50 minutes and the task is pretty straightforward. The manual provides clear assembly instructions and a multi-tool for it is included.
Once the bike is assembled, you only need to remove the perspiration that may fall on the frame at the end of the workout, and in general, keep the bike clean. Other than this, it is also recommended to periodically inspect the bike to make sure that all the bolts and parts hold still hold tight in their places and that the bike still functions properly. The bike’s drivetrain does not require lubrication.
