The DERACY indoor cycling bike is one of the fitness machines released in 2020. It’s a stationary bike designed for home use, but does have the construction of at least a light-commercial spin bike. It has an almost completely closed frame, similar to the Efitment IC035. However, it does not come with a cycling computer.

Frame construction

The DERACY indoor cycling bike features a heavy-duty steel frame pretty close to commercial standards. The frame has a triangular design with the main bar slightly curved for improved aesthetics. The main frame is fully coated with a corrosion-resistant paint finish; the color used is black. The only exceptions are the seat and handlebar posts which have a silver paint finish.

The bike’s body is almost completely covered by several large thermoplastic guards. This can be considered a plus, not only because it prevents the bike’s drive mechanism and frame from being exposed to sweat droplets which may cause corrosion, but it also improves the bike’s overall safety. An exposed flywheel spinning at a high speed, for example, can be a hazard for pets or small children.

The DERACY indoor cycle is a bit smaller (at least lengthwise) compared to other spin bikes. It is only 38.5″ (98 cm) long, and 21.5″ (55 cm) wide. This being said, it can fit pretty well in a small room. But nonetheless, it is a good idea to leave a bit of clearance space all around it for ease of access and correct usage.

Similar to commercial spin bikes, the DERACY bike is fairly heavy. With all the parts assembled, it weighs over 100 lbs. This being said, the transport of the packaged unit should be done by two persons. However, once the bike is fully assembled, it can easily be moved by only one person. Its front base stabilizer features a set of wheels. Also, its rear stabilizer is equipped with two adjustable levelers.

Seat and handlebars

The DERACY indoor cycling trainer comes with a pretty standard bicycle seat. The saddle has a curved top featuring a shell made of heavy-duty thermoplastic material (or nylon) and a high-density foam cover. It’s not extremely hard, but not super-cushioned either. So, we can say that it’s made for optimal comfort.

The bike’s seat is four-way adjustable (up, down, forward, backward). Its upright post offers an adjustment span of approx. 9″ (22.8 cm), from 32.5″ (82.5 cm) above floor level, to 41.4″ (105 cm). Its horizontal slider also allows a front to back adjustment of the saddle of approx. 3.2″ (8 cm). This being said, the bike should be able to accommodate comfortably users up to 6’3″ (190 cm), allowing a complete leg extension while seated. The bike is also rated for a maximum user weight limit of 330 lbs (150 kg) which evidently applies to the seat.

One last aspect to mention here about the bike’s seat regards its connection system to the slider. The saddle features a standard, collar-type connection system, being very easy to detach. This also makes the bike compatible with many types of bike saddles which you can find in any bike shop in case you will ever need/want to replace the included saddle.

Unlike the seat, the bike’s handlebar is only two-way adjustable (up, down). Its upright post offers approx. 8″ (20.3 cm) of adjustment, from 39.5″ (100 cm) above floor level, to 47.5″ (121 cm). It has a multi-grip design, offering the possibility to adopt a climbing grip, a racing grip, or a standard grip.

The handlebar is fully covered by a layer of high-density rubber-foam material in order to provide a secure and comfortable grip. It does not have pulse sensors and the bike does not offer a pulse reading function. It does come with bottle holder which can hold two hydration bottles and a small device such as a smartphone.

Resistance system

The DERACY indoor cycle features a friction resistance system with manual action. In other words, you don’t need an adapter or power cord for the bike. But on the other hand, the bike cannot adjust the resistance automatically as is the case for commercial spin bikes, such as the NordicTrack S15i Studio Cycle, for example.

The bike’s resistance system consists of a felt brake pad connected to the tension knob visible on the top, front part of the frame. The brake pad is completely concealed by the bike’s plastic covers. By turning the knob clockwise, the brake applies more friction to the flywheel which increases the pedaling difficulty.

As it is the case for most other spin bikes with a friction resistance system, the brake of the DERACY bike is stepless. It does not have pre-determined levels. You simply tighten the pad on the flywheel until you get the pedaling difficulty that fits your needs.

The bike’s tension knob also has an emergency brake function. You can press it down in case you need to stop the flywheel from spinning. This feature is quite necessary, actually. That’s because the flywheel is pretty heavy and the pedals continue to spin for as long as it is spinning.

Drive system

The bike is equipped with a pretty heavy flywheel. It weighs 33 lbs (15 kg) and has a perimeter-weighted design. This type of construction is meant to improve inertia and deliver a consistent momentum, great for spinning. The flywheel is completely concealed by the plastic covers for improved safety.

The bike’s flywheel is bi-directional. This being said, you can pedal in reverse if you want to diversify your workouts. But just as for any other spin bike, coasting is not possible. When pedaling in reverse, you will get the same resistance as when pedaling forward.

The bike’s drivetrain uses a poly-v belt. This type of transmission comes with several advantages over a chain drive. For example, you won’t have to take the covers apart to lubricate the belt as it would be the case with a chain. Also, the belt delivers a quieter and vibration-free pedaling motion.

Since it’s an exercise bike made for spinning workouts, the DERACY bike is equipped with a heavy-duty crankset. It has thick steel crank arms and metallic alloy pedals, so they can support the user while completely standing up. As we’ve mentioned above, the bike has a weight limit of 330 lbs (150 kg), which also applies to the crank and pedals.

The included pedals have a pretty standard design. They do not have SPD clips for spin shoes, but they do have toe cages with adjustable straps in case you need to secure your feet on them. Also, their threads are 9/16 standard, so compatible replacements are widely available.

Assembly and Maintenance

The main body of the bike comes pre-assembled. You only need to attach the two base stabilizers, the seat, the handlebar, and the pedals. This shouldn’t take more than 20 minutes of your time. The included manual provides clear assembly instructions and a set of basic tools for the task are also included.

Since the bike has a “one-piece” design with large covers over the frame, its maintenance doesn’t require much. The internal parts don’t need any lubrication. Therefore, all you need to do is keep the bike clean and periodically inspect it to make sure that it still functions properly and all the bolts hold tight in place.

The Pros

  • Heavy-duty construction – can support users up to 330 lbs (150 kg);
  • Aesthetic design;
  • Large covers over the flywheel, drivetrain, and most of the frame for improved safety;
  • Adjustable levelers on the rear base;
  • Transport wheels on the front base;

  • Multi-grip handlebar with bottle holders and device holder;
  • Silent belt drive;
  • Standard friction resistance;
  • Heavy-duty cranset;
  • Standard, metallic pedals with toe cages;
  • Easy to assemble;
  • All the tools necessary for the assembly are included;

Summary

The DERACY indoor cycling bike is a fitness machine made for home use but does offer the construction of a light-commercial spin bike with a weight capacity of 330 lbs. It is equipped with a 33 lbs flywheel, a belt drive system, and a four-way adjustable seat. It’s an exercise bike for users of all levels, high-intensity cardio workouts, muscle toning, stamina development, and weight loss. It’s also considerably more affordable than a commercial spin bike.
