Although the Stamina 1130 rowing machine is one of the models released by Stamina Fitness in 2016, it’s still available. In terms of construction, it is pretty similar to the Stamina 1110 model that we’re already covered. However, this particular rower features an automatic resistance system and a different console with multiple pre-set workout programs.

Frame construction
The Stamina 1130 rower combines steel, aluminum, and thermoplastic parts in its construction. The front section of the machine that holds the resistance system is steel made with plastic side covers. The sliding rail is made of extruded aluminum. The rear stabilizer is also made of steel. All the steel parts are coated with a corrosion-resistant paint finish. The rail has a white finish while the front plastic covers are white and black to match the rest of the rower.
The fully assembled rower is fairly small compared to other models. It is approx. 60″ (152 cm) long, and 22″ (56 cm) wide. However, the length of its rail is approx. 43″ (109 cm) so the machine should accommodate users up to 6’3″ (190 cm). Also, the rail is rated for a maximum user weight capacity of 250 lbs (113 kg).
This Stamina rower doesn’t have a folding frame, like the Sunny SF-RW5910, for example. However, it can be stored vertically. In vertical position, its footprint becomes approx. 27″L x 22″W (69 x 56 cm) while its height reaches approx. 60″ (152 cm).
The rower is fairly light. It weighs approx. 52 lbs (23.5 kg). This being said, it can be carried and assembled by only one person. Also, once it is assembled, it can easily be moved as its front base is equipped with a set of rollers. Its base bars do not have adjustable levelers, though. So it is recommended to place and use the machine on a rubber mat or on a carpet, especially if the floor is irregular.
Seat and other parts
The Stamina 1130 magnetic rower is equipped with a seat designed for optimal comfort. Its top is made of high-density foam and also contoured to adapt better to the user. It is fairly large, approx. 14″ (34 cm) wide so it offers plenty of contact surface.
The base of the seat is steel made. It integrates two sets of wheels that slide through the side grooves of the rail. They are partially concealed by the side sections of the seat frame for extra safety. They integrate sealed bearings and an outer layer designed to reduce noise.
The rail is horizontal. Therefore, the rower provides a neutral rowing motion. Also, the seat height remains constant throughout the rowing motion. Its height is approx. 14.5″ (37 cm), pretty high above floor level, so entry and exit can be done with ease.
The Stamina 1130 is equipped with a set of large footrests, made of durable thermoplastic material. They have heel guards and adjustable straps for improved foot stability. Their size cannot be adjusted, but they are large enough to accommodate athletic shoes of all sizes.
The unit’s footrests have a pivoting design. This means that they can tilt on their axis forward and backward in order to adapt better to the motion of the user’s feet. They have stoppers at the heel, though, so they cannot tilt backward past an angle of approx. 55°.
The machine’s pulling handle is a simple short steel bar. It has foam sleeves for a more comfortable grip. It does not integrate pulse sensors or resistance controls. It is attached to a heavy-duty nylon strap highly resistant to abrasion. This type of drive comes with two main advantages over the chain drive of other rowers such as the Concept2 Model D have. First of all, you don’t have to lubricate it, and second of all, it generates less vibration delivering a smoother rowing motion.
Resistance system
The Stamina 1130 rowing machine is equipped with a full-magnetic motorized resistance system. This means that it requires an external power source in order to power up the console and allow resistance adjustment. It also means that the console can adjust the resistance automatically and has several workout programs.
The machine’s resistance system consists of a magnetic brake and a small servo motor connected to it. The servo motor is connected to the console, so when you make resistance adjustments, or when the console itself makes resistance adjustments, the motor moves the brake closer or farther from the internal flywheel which adds or reduces the workout load.
As opposed to the Stamina 1110 which only offers 8 resistance levels, the Stamina 1130 makes available 16 resistance levels. The lowest level provides a fairly low resistance, great for anyone who wants to regain their stamina, or for recovery training. Conversely, the 16th tension level gives you the possibility to burn more calories or benefit from a more consistent workout during arm exercises.
Similar to other full-magnetic rowers, this particular model does not provide a dynamic response during rowing. This means that the resistance does not depend on how fast you pull the handle as it is the case with air rowers or water rowers. It only depends on the selected tension level. This shouldn’t be an inconvenience because the machine still provides a pretty consistent full-body cardio workout, but the rowing feel is not as close to rowing a real boat as it is for air resistance rowers or water resistance rowers.
On the other hand, since the resistance elements do not touch, the machine is very quiet during usage. Also, the internal flywheel is perimeter-weighted for improved inertia. Its exact weight is not specified, but considering that the machine is not too heavy, it probably doesn’t weigh more than 20 lbs (9 kg).
Console
The Stamina 1130 magnetic rower is equipped with a mid-range console featuring an LCD display divided into three main sub-sections. The top section shows time, watts, and pulse, the middle section tracks stroke count, strokes per minute, distance, and calories burned, while the bottom section shows the grid of the program in use. Distance is shown in metric units (meters and kilometers). There is no setting for English units. For pulse reading, the console is telemetric. It can read your heart rate if you wear the included HR chest strap.
The machine’s console does not have online connectivity, and it is not compatible with any fitness apps. However, it has 13 built-in programs. The first program is the Manual mode. It simply tracks your distance traveled, strokes, calories, etc. as you row and if this program is in use, you have to adjust the resistance manually from the + / – buttons. The next 7 programs are pre-set. Each one has its own specific segment layout. As a general idea, these programs are Rolling Hills, Valley, Fat Burn, Ramp, Mountain, and Intervals. The 8th program is a race program that basically requires you to compete against the computer for a certain distance goal.
The 9th program is the Heart Rate program. This program requires you to wear the included HR chest strap and select a desired heart rate level. Depending on the selected HR level, the machine will increase or decrease the resistance in order to keep you in a pulse interval close to the selected BPM level.
The last 4 programs are user-defined. For each user program, you can create a custom workout profile, save it, and re-use it any time you want. Or, up to 4 users can have their own custom program settings for quick access.
Last but not least, the console also offers the possibility to set up workout goals. For the pre-set programs, heart rate program, and user-defined programs, you can select a goal for time, count, distance, and calories. The race program only has target settings for time and distance.
Assembly and Maintenance
This Stamina rower comes mostly assembled. The drive system and rail are already connected and folded. Therefore, all you have to do is unbox the machine, unfold it, lock the rail in usable position, attach the front stabilizer, the rear stabilizer, the pulling handle, the footrests, and the front cover. This shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes. The manual provides detailed assembly instructions and schematics and all the necessary tools are included.
The internal parts shouldn’t require any lubrication or maintenance for a long period of time. So, the only maintenance that you should do for this machine is to keep the rail clean to prevent damage to the seat wheels, wipe any sweat that might fall on the frame at the end of the workout, and periodically inspect the machine to make sure it still functions properly.
