Frame construction
The Leikefitness 80499 indoor cycling bike features a triangular frame construction with the front fork bars slightly curved for improved aesthetics. The bike’s frame is made of ovalized, thick steel tubing for superior sturdiness. The main frame is double-coated with a corrosion-resistant paint finish, while the seat and handlebar posts are chrome-plated.
Of course, the bike also integrates several ABS parts. The most notable ones are the side protective panels of the flywheel and the belt guard.
An important feature that we must mention here is the short bar that connects the seat tube with the main oblique tube. This can serve as a stepping element for easier entry and exit, or for certain spin workouts that require repeated mounting and dismounting. Not all spin bikes have this short bar element, so it’s a plus.
The fully assembled bike is not extremely large; it is only 45.2″ (115 cm) long, and 19.6″ (50 cm) wide. This means it can fit pretty well even into a small room. However, just as for any other exercise bike, it still is recommended to allow at least two feet of clearance all around it.
Since it’s a bike made for home use, it is lighter than commercial-grade models, like the pooboo C511, for example. However, it still weighs approx. 68 lbs (~31 kg) which is more than twice the weight of the average road bike. Therefore, this Leikefitness trainer delivers excellent stability. Plus, both its base bars are equipped with adjustable and rubberized stabilizers.
Although the bike isn’t too heavy, its front base does have a set of transport wheels. So, once it is assembled, it can be easily relocated.
Seat and handlebars
The Leikefitness 80499 is equipped with a seat designed for extra comfort. First of all, it is wider than most race-type seats. Its top integrates a fairly decent layer of cushioning especially in its rear section. Its cover is made of durable vinyl material. It also has a central groove for improved breathability.
The bike’s seat offers four-way adjustability (up, down, front, back). Its upright post has several adjustment positions while its horizontal slider allows a few more inches of front-to-back adjustment. This being said, the bike can accommodate users between 4’0″ and 6’3″ (122 – 190 cm). It is also solid enough to support users up to 300 lbs (136 kg) which is quite a decent weight capacity for an exercise bike made for home use.
The saddle has a standard (collar-based) attachment system to its post. Therefore, not only that you can adjust it up, down, forward and backward, you can also untighten its screw and slightly change its angle. Plus, due to this standard attachment system, the bike is compatible with a wide array of other saddles available in bike shops.
As opposed to the seat, the bike’s handlebar only offers up/down adjustability. It doesn’t have the horizontal slider. It has a multi-grip design with a loop-type aero grip in the middle to which you can attach the exercise meter. It’s fully covered by a layer of PU material for a more comfortable and secure grip.
It’s also important to mention that the side grips of the handlebar are equipped with pulse sensors. Not all spin bikes offer this feature. Also, the included exercise meter can monitor your pulse.
Drive and resistance
The Leikefitness 80499 indoor cycle is equipped with an aluminum alloy flywheel. It only weighs 13 lbs (5.8 kg), but its weight shouldn’t matter that much because the bike has a magnetic resistance system. The flywheel has a perimeter-weighted structure which adds momentum to the ride, a great feature spin workouts.
The bike’s flywheel allows pedaling in reverse. However, coasting on the bike is not possible as it is the case for road bikes. When you pedal in reverse, you will benefit from the same resistance as when pedaling forward. Thus, you can alternate normal with reverse pedaling sessions if you want to focus different muscle groups.
The bike’s magnetic resistance system is manual. In other words, you don’t have to connect the bike to a power source, and you don’t need an adapter for it. But on the other hand, the bike does not adjust the resistance automatically and the included bike computer doesn’t have preset programs.
The resistance system consists of a magnetic brake connected to the tension knob on the main tube of the frame. If you turn the knob clockwise, the magnetic brake moves closer to the flywheel which increases the pedaling difficulty.
The bike doesn’t have pre-determined resistance settings. You simply tighten the brake until you get the desired resistance.
The Leikefitness 80499 exercise bike is equipped with a belt drive system. This type of transmission comes with a few advantages over a chain drive. To begin with, the belt does not require periodic lubrication. Also, it delivers a smooth ride, with less vibration than a chain and the pedaling motion is almost completely silent.
Last but not least, the bike’s crankset features two solid arms and the pedals can support any spin workout. The included pedals have a non-slip design and are equipped with toe cages and straps. They don’t have clips for spin shoes but they’re threads are standard (9/16″) so you can replace them at any time.
Exercise meter
The bike includes a basic exercise meter. In other words, it doesn’t have any preset programs or goal settings. It features an LCD display that only tracks time, distance, speed, calories burned and pulse. Speed and distance are only shown in metric units (km/h and kilometers); you can’t set it to miles and MPH. Also, the unit can read pulse but only if you hold on to the sensors integrated into the side grips of the handlebar. It is not telemetric and cannot communicate with any wireless HR transmitter.
The meter unit is very easy to use. It only has one button. It allows you to select the Scan Mode which rotates all the values showing each one for a few seconds. Or, you can press it repeatedly to scroll through the workout metrics and select the one that you want to lock on the display. The button also covers the unit’s reset function. By pressing and holding it for a few seconds you can clear all its values to zero.
The unit is battery-powered. It requires two AA batteries. It starts up when you begin pedaling or when you press the button. It also has a sleep mode which is initiated four minutes after the last flywheel movement input.
Assembly and Maintenance
Similar to other spin bikes, the Leikefitness bike comes partially assembled. The flywheel, the belt, the crankset, and the magnetic brake are already attached to the frame. You only have to connect the two base bars, the seat, the handlebars, the pedals, and the console. The included manual provides clear assembly instructions, so this shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes. Also, all the necessary tools are included.
For maintenance, you only have to keep the unit clean and periodically check for loose bolts or parts. The belt doesn’t need lubrication, and since the brake doesn’t touch the flywheel, there is no friction or brake pad wear and tear.
